As somebody with a couple of full sets of blocks, I finally caved to get the Seaboard 2. The contour of the keys & raised frets make bum notes much easier to avoid. It's a solid and beautifully designed piece of artistry. Equator 2 really makes it come alive. Not that Equator 1 was any slouch. I picked a second hand one up for £775. They're so incredibly & infinitely more-ish to play together. Hat's off to ROLI for a fantastically creative, remarkable piece of design & engineering. The build quality really is absolutely exceptional.
Dear Roli brand ; please do the same marvel but dawless like an op1 ; a keyboard you can bring everywhere battery operated ; with synth engine in it and the possibility to add more sounds with a computer
That would be great - the Seaboard GRAND did have the synth engine built in to allow DAWless use but that was a limited run and much more expensive than the Rise.
I was really hoping to have an option that would allow you to save the sounds on board with an analog out. I've been using the Seaboard Rise since it came out and the biggest issue I've had is getting it to sound great live . It's a shame too because my band will tell you I've tried really hard to make it sound good live.
@@microfx none of the patches are at unity. Constantly having to change volumes for everything. Had problems with latency. Occasionally, Equator would crash, freeze or not even load. Eventually, my Seaboard just died all together and I had to bug Roli tech support for almost a year until they finally just sent me a brand new one. Even then, I'm still scared to use it live because of all the issues we had with it. I really wanted it to work bad because when it does work, I love it. There's so much potential here. It just seems like they need to hire the right team to get all the kinks out of it. But all the problems I had with it could be avoided if they made one with an XLR or 1/4 inch out. Or even just a midi module that you could load patches onto and use an existing Seaboard. I would pay at least $500 for a module like that.
@@Jaysmithtrio uh... ok. Guess I'd have to see it myself to fully understand. Can't you save presets with the correct level? Anyways ... waiting for my Expressive E Osmose. Maybe that would be better for you
To have sound onboard, we would need to run the engine on the device, which would be a lot more expensive. We have made several improvements to RISE 2 and Equator2 and will be releasing ROLI Dashboard with Expression curve presets. More details on roli.com.
Granu-plucks is awesome. I wish Roli would make a regular style keyboard with all the same functions. Like a hybrid of the osmose express e combined with this other over lay veneer sensor on each key that reads the finger slides up each key for modulation. Make one of those in an 88 key weighted version, and I would pay good money for that. We don’t need any more learning curves in our lives.
I personally feel that seaboard design is brilliant overall, but one downside I do have with my blocks setup is replicating something once I've worked out what I want to do. Not sure if it's possible to lock more perameters down in the software, but it definitly feels like there's always variation in every playback - with my only remedy being to render in place the minute I find something that works, but then that bakes everything in too. Still, Roli's gear and software are a solid playground to get motivated and discover some really cool sounds! Edit - more to the point though, even with the new board, how easy it to replicate a performance and lock it down?
Thanks for your comments! All 5D parameters can be adjusted in Dashboard to help you find the right balance for your playing style for each expressive dimension. For RISE 2 we have actually changed the keywave. The shape of the new Keywave2 surface was perfected after years of rigorous testing and feedback from both Seaboard and piano players.
How is the build and longevity quality of this controller? I read many problems from previous version.. cheaply built, etc. I would consider buying one of these but way too concerned it wont last a year or so.
every electronic that you use for more than 3 hours per day won't last longer than a year without getting signs of wear and if you aren't careful with it, it is even possible that you need more than one to reach one year and that goes for everything electronical. but if you just use it for a few hours per week then it will survive many years if the silicon or rubber doesn't go bad. for example console controllers have a survival time of only a few months before the death zone starts to grow if you use it daily to play games, but still some people use the same controller for years without noticing any problems or changes
And the noise app crashes all the time since apple upgraded to 15…don’t know how frequently roli update their apps. Korg gadget wasn’t good from the first place but it gets better now
The build quality on the RISE series is extremely high quality. The chassis is solid anodized aluminum and the silicone rubber is a high grade, optimized blend of our own design. I don't think anyone who has ever held or played a Seaboard RISE would claim that it is cheaply built. The original RISE was released in 2016, and units have been in creators hands since then. What we've noticed is that, beyond a defined set of commonly reported issues, the units have held up extremely well. A core mission in the redesign of RISE 2 was addressing the design elements susceptible to issue and releasing the most durable unit we could.
Do you guys also have a DAE?! Or which DAE would be the absolute most in line with your Seaboard design, concept and aesthetics?! I am in love with this instrument and just got an Audient id 14 mkll and some mics for singing… Now I need an instrument just like yours and a DAE! What you recommend?

they added stripes on the white keys, they're just not colored. personally, I think it would look kinda weird with white stripes on the white keys aswell. too cluttered. I like the minimalistic look.
Hi there - we did test different visual options, but ultimately from the feedback we received from piano and Seaboard players, the minimalist look remained the most liked and effective, with the new Keywave frets making it easier to feel - rather than just see - each key. But one of the reasons for the new platinum blue coloured chassis was to let the playing surface stand out more in a dark stage or studio environment. Hope that explains our thinking!
the notes on the seaboard keyboard are really just a guide for people familiar with piano, its sensitive to touch even in between the 'keys'. if the synth you are using supports MPE, then you have full control of pitch with your fingers. for example you can make a sound vibrato by wiggling your finger, bend to notes by sliding from one horizontal position to another, or play microtonal notes by not hitting the center of the keys on the keyboard. sliding up or down on a key doesnt necesarially control velocity/volume. it controls an arbitrary MIDI value that you can then assign to control literally any parameter of your synth.
