    Is it the perfect tent stove for the very popular Lavvu? Should you get one?
    Hopefully this video will give you all the information you need to make an informed decision
    Thanks for watching

    Thanks to this vlog I got the Nomad Small No view. I'm not a back packer so weight is not a problem. The price of 269 euros also no big deal, since it holds it value reasonably. I love it that RVS is nearly indestructable and the stove so capable. I added two more pipes to make it more versatile for use with higher tents. Beautiful and funny piece of equipment. Perfect!

    The glass will alway soot up when starting, however I've used many types over the years once fully established crank it up to to get pretty damn hot. The heat will disapate the soot regardless how sotting it gets.

    Thanks for your excellent video pal. I am on the verge of buying one of these but still haven’t decided on the Small or Medium Nomad. I like the extras that you can get on the medium but not sure just how much use I would get out of them. Just one point that I feel is important to make and should be more widely appreciated, that Polish Army poncho tent isn’t a Lavvu. A tent with a single pole could never be described as such as it is a structure made from many sticks and covered over.
    So many people call them this and sellers put it in the description but the Lavvu is a very important part of Sami culture and as such should be protected. Rant over but I just hope it helps to stop the growing trend .
    I look forward to more of your videos and will endeavour to be less critical in future.

      I did not know that mate. Thanks for the knowledge bomb. I’ll mention that for sure in my next video about them. You’re right everyone calls them that and so do the adverts selling them. I hadn’t even considered it might be something else 😊👍 the nomad is a great stove, but I’m not sure how big a medium would be inside the Polish Poncho tent 😉 are you intending to use it in that or in another hot tent? Thanks for checking the video out mate and I hope to see you in the comments of my other videos at some point 💪

    Cheers from the USA 🇺🇸 mate. Definitely subbing, glad to see a newcomer! I myself have recently been getting into bushcraft, camping, and general outdoors activities. I purchased one of these nomad stoves also, the medium. They are great little stoves! Here's a little advice on maintaining them. Those pipes and the stove body shouldn't be allowed to get to those temperatures. Stainless steel gets red at about 900 F or 460 C. It can warp the stove and the pipe sections which could seriously damage them. Thankfully you have two dampers to control airflow and you can control the burn fairly efficiently if you play around with them. Just a heads up, I'm sure you don't want to damage your stove long term. Also that was creative to use that basket as a makeshift double wall section. If you ever want to upgrade, Winnerwell makes a double wall pipe section that might provide a more secure and tight fit. I love the lavvu setup! I just purchased one myself today actually. Looking forward to using it as a lighter-weight setup. I currently have a Springbar canvas Classic Jack 140 hot tent system. You should look into that, it's a beast of a base camp setup. Not at all a backpacking type setup though. Anyhow, glad to see your content, I'll definitely have to stay tuned!

      Hello back to the USA!! It always amazes me when people watch my tiny channel from the other side of the word 😊👍 thanks for the tips mate, it’s the first time I’ve ever used these types of things so don’t really know the ins and outs. I’ll try and keep the temperature down in future if I can, but I don’t recall ever having that much wood in at one time. And I had the air flow fully open (maybe that’s the issue?). Thanks again for taking the time to interact. I love it when people drop in for a chat. And thanks so much for the sub mate 😁

    • @MegaDringus
      @MegaDringus 3 года назад +2

      @@steelmanoutdoors4479 Thanks! It’s nice to see fresh content, keep it up!
      So the amount of wood and the oxygen feeding it create the high temperatures, plus any accumulated soot on the stove body and pipe sections can burn if it’s thick or resinous. Just something to watch out for, I had a bit of warping on the side of my stove body caused from excessive temperatures and I ended up hammering it back down. The easiest way to avoid this problem is to check for soot levels and clean it regularly, and also cutting back the airflow on both the door baffle and pipe damper when it gets too hot. The temperatures can get high fairly quickly so it’s just something to watch out for. You can buy a little thermometer that attaches to the stove pipe or a temp gun works too, just to get a read on the temperature, and both are relatively inexpensive.
      Anyhow looking forward to more videos! Happy camping!

      Cheers bro. Yeah the titanium fastfold ones do fold flat and are only a couple of kilos all in. I did look at that too, but honestly I’d prefer the extra weight and robustness. I’ll only ever use it for camping and close to car wildcamps so the weight isn’t an issue to me. It might provide some good warmth in a cave 🤔

    I never managed to do one bloody side of a rubik's cube, much to complicated for a simple mind like me. And perhaps the nesting of the pipes in the stove is to simple for you and that's why you can't get them all in ? 🤣👍🏻

    Just a thought, the basket to protect the tent, could you not use a stove jack. Silicone . Which might make it more water proof, on the hot exhaust pipe work.
    Is the pipe work glowing because the baffle flap is closed to much, cannot wait till you do a roast with red wine and trimmings

    • @steelmanoutdoors4479
      @steelmanoutdoors4479  3 года назад

      Yes you could absolutely use a stove jack. There’s a video of Simone a Bloke in the woods that made his own and used Velcro to attach it to the Lavvu I just went for the easy option lol it was raining pretty hard and virtually no rain came through. I had the flap fully open so I don’t think that could have been the cause. I think it was just the sheer heat. Or maybe it was too hot because it was fully opening, and dampening it down would reduce the heat? 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I can’t believe that so many people buy this stove without the view. Better heat radiation out of the glass, and it’s not even common to for the glass to break which is often the reason that people give for passing on the View…and even if it does break so what just buy a couple replacements in their accessories section, problem solved. Furthermore the View is just a better visual experience than not being able to enjoy watching the fire from each side.
