Cheers lads! A Turk speaking: Like every single Turkish kid, I was taught about how valiantly your grandfathers fought and more importantly with honour. Throughout our history more than 2000 years, from China to the gates of Vienna, those ANZACs were the most honorable "enemy" we've ever had. Like Mustafa Kemal Ataturk said "your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."
Salutations to the all heros of the last gentlemen's war!

I WAS THERE, well not quite there but was cruising off ANZAC in memory of my Grandfather, made him a promise the last time I "saw" him that we would be there for the 100th and we were. AMAZING experience, there were also about another 6/7 ships as well as ours all cruising just outside ANZAC. My Grandad landed at ANZAC on the 25th April 1915 with the 4th Battalion AIF between 11an and 12 pm and was KIA at Lone Pine between 6 to 9th August 1915 and he was English, left England in about August 1914 and enlisted at Liverpool Camp NSW.

    Gallipoli Dawn Service
25 April 2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli. Anzac Day is a time to reflect on the contribution made by all of our past and present service men and women who have displayed great courage, discipline and self-sacrifice in choosing a life of service to their country.
The Anzac spirit lives in the heart and minds of all Australians as we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who contributed so much in shaping the identity of this proud nation. Approximately 2240 ADF members are currently deployed on operation, continuing the Anzac spirit whilst serving Australiaís national interests at home and in many countries around the world.

Can't believe I sat through that video and the NZ anthem was cut out! I was there and it was a beautifully sung rendition. Bad form by the Aus Air Force.

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well.

If it's so damn important then how come Melbourne didn't get a paid holiday for it? It didn't even register in Melbourne for that reason, nobody even knew about it. It came and went just like any other weekend. I didn't even know it was 100 years since the Gallipoli landing...is there something in that?

In war, no one wins, no one is the good guy, no one is the hero. The only heroes were those who perished. Johnnies and Mehmets died side by side, they lived in the same trenches, they lived under the same weather, they lived under the same falling of bombs and shells. Despite being enemies, a brotherhood was forged between them
