    I had the same laptop with the same specs. It has been serving me for 4 years. And one day it suddenly didn't turn on, same as this one. I went to repairshop, but they could not find a reason, so just recommended to change the mother board. The price for changing motherboard was almost the same as buying a working secondhand laptop like mine. So, I just just trashed this laptop and bought a new one. Now I think that my laptop also had the same bios problem and my motherboard was alright! BecauseI only used it for simple tasks like watching RUclips, movies and surfing internet, so there was no reason for motherboard to break.

    • @JustOneGuy
      @JustOneGuy 5 лет назад +37

      Most laptops have locked bios that you can unlock with custom firmware but you have a high chance of bricking the bios chip and you might as well buy a new motherboard at that point, which will be expensive as CPU is probably soldered on the motherboard itself.

    • @hellbenthorse
      @hellbenthorse 5 лет назад +11

      @@JustOneGuy If you use a SOIC clip and flasher you can clear and rewrite to the bios chip to unbrick it, super handy to have around. Can pick them up for like $8 online.

    • @JustOneGuy
      @JustOneGuy 5 лет назад +4

      @@hellbenthorse True, but its a hassle still as you have to take the laptop apart in order to access it and even if you have the access to it you might have have the proper image to make the bios work again. I learned that the hard and expensive way. Even if you make a backup of the current bios you need extra information if you want to flash it on a bricked motherboard.

    Oke, first i wanna say great video Andrew, it was very instructive and interesting to see this, especially the hidden setting in the bios. second, and i normally don't come with something negative, i hope you take this well. i know the video is now from last year, i just now saw your video and i noticed something you could do differently, what i mean is the windows. in this video you installed a new fresh windows on the SSD, while that would be no problem normally, if it was you're laptop, and there's the problem, it's not you're laptop but you're friend's laptop. If it was me, i would first, boot up from the HDD, install a Partition Manager like: easeus partition master and choose: Migrate to SSD, that way you're friend has his windows with all his program's, files and settings back on a faster laptop. i'm pointing this out since i haven't hear you say that you got "permission" to install a fresh new windows, unless you got it but didn't mention it on the video. Again this is not a complaint comment but maybe consider this idea next time you fix/restore/upgrade someone else's laptop. Best regards: Nico.

    Hello! Your video was very useful to me. I had practically the same notebook. I have only one doubt: the thermal paste because it was put in the processor (top left square) and in the rectangle, and not in that square next to it? Shouldn't it have been added there too?

  • @Bagoesbudianto

    Hey, today i bought 2nd hand asus laptop but no RAM+storage+DVD drive from my friend. Open that laptop, dried paste, a few broken blade fan, and 1 slot mSATA 😄. What a good friend, he only clean the laptop but not the paste 😂. So install kingston 128gb SSD mSATA+ Samsung16gb ddr3 kit (both already have it), SSD R/W speed is ~260MB/s, change thermal paste (i use deepcool Z5). That mSATA is enough for boot win10 and 3D software, 16gb is overkill but my sister said "is enough for my Autocad project?" and yes is enough.

      Hi bro, I have worked in repair store for a pretty long, but also I'm searching the web, nowadays on Internet you can find almost everything, repair tech, repair cars, repair house, etc. Personally if I need something to find and learn, I open the google and I search everything available, web pages, videos, forums, and anything other. But sometimes you can search things in different languages, even if I don't understand some language google translate will help me :D

      @@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew First of all, i love the passion you show to your job and i love your videos. You are one of the sources that educates me :)) Depending on your answer, I am going to learn this repair stuff through internet. Well, English helps haha. Thank you so much for your answer, and much much love from Turkey.

    Wouldn't it be easier to reset bios by simply removing the bios batterry? That worked for me without any special tools :)
