SARF011 presage line is a 6R64 and that one is a traveler gmt.

That's a great watch for $600 US or so. Unfortunately I have not seen any for sale for less than $1000 US.

Shame they didn’t utilise the useless compass chapter ring for the 24hr markers. The chapter ring could have been stepped and the crown screw down to lock the GMT hr. This would leave the polished watch bezel as originally designed, clean. It looks to me a compromise compared to my lovely original Alpinst.
I think they looked at the features people will actually use and prioritised according. I know what you mean though!
Exactly. Id buy one or the new Longinnes compressor diver 39mm if they put a 24hr chater ring in there instead of minute timer.
The Treska GMT looks like a decent alternative to this with better spec arguably.

At the RRP price...maybe worth looking at the Citizen series 8 GMT....If you look hard enough you can get around Aus$ 1400 to $1500 range. And it is a true GMT.

I bought a Seiko Irish Coffee after seeing your review Jody. Got it for a $360. I put it on a Seiko oysterband from my Sejko 38mm that I put it on my Orient strainless steel mesh bracelet.
I can’t understand why Seiko has not utilised the 6R64 movement more, as true GMT is important to me. I traveled with an Alpina GMT(caller style) and because I changed multiple Timezones, It was honestly a big pain in the ass.
Outside the movement choice, looks ace.
I’ve just had a Citizen Series 8 GMT, arrive myself.

As I've quit travelling I no longer need a second time zone or GMT watch, but if I were to get one, this would be the one.
The Alpinist line is by far my favorite over-entry-price line. The Presage's are quite lovely, but something about the Alpinist in the Prospex line just suits me perfectly. A dressy sports watch or a sporty dress watch. Good for almost every occasion.
This is the first of the Alpinist I really enjoy, but I can't help to think how good it could look on a bracelet!
I'm excited to see you review this one, as I bought one a few weeks ago during the Black Friday sales. I took the strap off immediately and put an alpha bracelet on it. I feel this is one I'm going to grow old with.

Needs a solid caseback and a cyclops over the date (which should be at 3 o'clock). Actually, the more I think about this, the more I'll just stick to my SCVF-007.

It’s been a great year of videos Jody and I hope you enjoy the watch…but personally I’m completely done with Seiko. The low price offerings aren’t good enough in terms of spec, build quality or QC; the better quality pieces are simply overpriced. The irony is that the movements they sell to China and other micro brands are simply better than Seiko’s own. Take care, Richard
Agree. It's hard to rationalize their high prices when you can get similar style watches with the same movement for much less. If they were making everything in Japan it might be a different story, but with most of their product being made in China where is the distinction?
Anyway, it's a nice looking watch and if it makes you happy, Jody, then that is all that matters - to YOU! :)
It's a nice watch but it's $2100 NZD here, for an automatic with the tolerances stated, it's just one more Casio for me.

Nothing like a little light holiday reading from Leo T.--nice intellectual flex. This is a good looking piece from Seiko, but a few nitpicks:
1. Why does nearly watch have a display caseback (this tends to thicken the case width, and no one really wants to drink in the loveliness of the utterly plain Jane 4R/6Rs).
2. Why does nearly every watch have a date window? (the porthole variation that Seiko has been trying out is only a little better than the traditional square cut out.)
3. What is with the crap accuracy on 6r movements? The 4R35/36 movements may not have the high power reserve, but from my experience, are surprisingly consistent in terms of daily SPD gains/losses (especially true for the 4R36 pieces I own). I would think that most consumers would trade more solid accuracy for longer power reserve.
4.Where does Seiko get off with their pricing? This issue is done to death, but for FFS Seiko, get real.
Always good to get yourself a little something. Picked up a STRATON SPECIALE in brown and tan of course, just waiting for it to arrive.
A good looking watch, about £1000 makes it a bit steep for a Seiko, it would need a new strap, I think it would suit a milanese. Enjoy.

Hi Jody, nice watch. However, when you were moving the inner rotating bezel, I thought that it wobbled a little bit. I haven't owned an Alpinist, so I do not have a personal experience with them, but if you look carefully at that and report back, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!!
At 40% off I'd be tempted to gift myself one however I'd really want the green colourway but fat chance getting a discount on those from outside Japan. Glad to see your Leatherman is as reliable as mine.

That's a beautiful looking watch. I love it, but it's expensive. I did get the orange dial Seiko 5 GMT swapped the hardlex for a sapphire, put a handmade strap from a local craftsman and together it all cost me just over a third of the price of this. I know there's no real comparison and not saying that the watch isn't worth it, it does look expensive, but I don't think I'd pay that much for an office GMT. Excellent review Jody. Enjoy making the Christmas pudding while you check what time it is in Scotland!

Wow! That is sweet. The alpinist is one I wish I could afford without hurting my wallet, I have thought of the older ones when they were around 400.00 but most of those are long gone. Plus the GMT is nice. Kind of an all-around watch you could wear.
This does indeed look classy! Love that bezel - except for one thing - is it me or is the bezel misaligned? That 6 on the bezel definitely looks lower than the 3 on the dial (and the 18 higher than the 9) even taking into account that your adjustable chapter ring is pulling slightly to the left.
It's a Seiko post 2020, misalignment is practically their M.O. by now...

I just bought my third Henry Archer today as a bit of a post New year gift to my self. Watches are always fun to buy... That's a nice watch I have a couple of Seikos (Seiko 5 and a cocktail). Do they make that model in a non GMT version? Never been a fan of the 4th hand.

Happy Christmas, glad you like it. The for me redundant compass bezel, with its second crown kills it for me. Makes the dial look over cluttered & the 2 crowns look unbalanced. Don't like its chances of handing around long, especially seeing the deal you got on it!

You got to love Seiko! $1,000 and you get an unsigned crown. I'm intrigued by the inner rotating compass bezel, but this is a little rich for my budget st the end of the year. Plus, that undigned bezel would annoy me.
Is there a 2nd sticker on the back, or is it printed on the glass?? 😳 ("Seiko X") To be honest with you, I'd never pay 1000 $ on a Seiko, would rather go with a Frederic Constant instead. Well, tastes are different, fortunately 😉Cheers!

If you think its great Jody, then cheers man. I was looking at the new Astron line-up as an everyday solar quartz. The GMTs just dont "Bake ma beans" if you know what I mean. Clean look for this handsome dial though. Love the 72 hr power res

This is a cracking watch and when they start going on sale if you can get these for less than £700 it's a great deal.
I seen them in a black Friday sale for 30% off in an ad in the UK was very tempted but I've had nothing but trouble with my last Seiko won't be buying another one or anything with a Seiko movement in them again 😂
