Courage & Devotion to Duty
By Heidi S. Swinton
On June 6, 1944, this beach on the coast of Normandy, France, became the turning point of World War II. At the time, France was occupied by Nazi Germany, as was much of western Europe. But then Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied forces, ordered an invasion. Code-named Operation Overlord, it took place on this 50-mile stretch of sand, where some 160,000 American, British, and Canadian troops, with an armada of nearly 5,000 vessels, launched the largest seaborne invasion in military history.
Addressing the troops before launching the campaign, General Eisenhower said: “The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. … I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!” Against all odds, the hard-fought invasion of Normandy was a success, and the course of history was forever altered.
General Eisenhower never intended to be a military hero. As a youngster in Abilene, Kansas, what he really wanted to be was a major league baseball player. The world owes a debt of gratitude to the baseball coach at West Point Academy who cut young Dwight Eisenhower from the team, effectively ending his baseball career. Instead, Eisenhower became a five-star general and the 34th president of the United States.
He brought to Washington a military charisma reminiscent of Presidents George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant, both charged with bringing the country together after deadly wars. In his final address as president in 1961, Eisenhower reflected on his “half a century in the service of our country.” His presidential counsel still holds true: “America’s leadership and prestige depend, not merely upon our … material progress, riches and military strength, but on how we use our power in the interests of world peace and human betterment.”
At this place made sacred by the sacrifices of those under Eisenhower’s command, we remember, and must never forget, that our nation’s best moments were born of courage and devotion to duty. We honor that history when we, as President Eisenhower urged, use what power we have to promote peace and make the world a better place.

Thank you for the beautiful music that reminds us that it was the freedoms in America, at the time, that allowed all to worship how, where, and what they may, making it the place where the Gospel of Jesus Christ could be brought to a young boy, Joseph Smith, so the world could receive the blessings of the Gospel. May the United States of America remain a free country for ever. 🙏
Amen America! Thank you all for your service!!

👍👍👍👍🙏🙏
My deepest appreciation for this special Memorial Day Mormon Tabernacle Choir performance. I am a retired US Air Force officer and I recognize "freedom is not free ." We are still the greatest country on this earth and blessed by God with the charge to spread peace and freedom throughout the world. This magnificent choir illustrates one of the many gifts God has given to our wonderful country.
My dad was an Air Force veteran and I just wanted to say- you’re so right, freedom comes at quite a cost- I wish more people realized the sacrifices that they are so nonchalantly stepping on. Thank you for your service 🙏
🗣️☘️ gracias mis hermanos y hermanas por compartir esté hermoso video 🌞💞🇻🇪
God bless America......
May the children enjoy true freedom!
What a wonderful tribute to those who have defended our God given Freedoms over decades of the past. Love that traditional, patriotic music that is now part of our heritage. My hope is that we will never forget these things as a people and not allow others who don't understand turn us away from God and His truths.
How wonderful, thank you
God Bless America!

I am so proud to be an American on this Independence Day 2021
I'm glad there are those willing to fight to preserve our freedoms from those who would take them away. God be with all who love their fellow men and love preserving our lives and our liberties that they would willingly risk thier lives to do so. God bless our military, both those who live and those who died.
Thanks for posting this without commercials on the Sabbath.
Thanks for this, great way to remember what was done for us.
Good morning from philippines
Fabulous tribute to America with incredibly performed traditional songs as well as the unfamiliar. This inspiring program increases patriotism for our God-blessed land!
May the founding ideals of this country not be destroyed by our enemies and may the republic be preserved by those who love this country and what it truly stands for. God save the freedoms we hold dear and rescue us from greed and those who only love power.
"Into the wild blue yonder...." This song always gets stuck in my head. Beautiful performance by the choir.

😊👍👍👍👍
When is it going to be live again?? 😥
These live again??
Was this public or pre recorded
In the graphics for This Is My Country, at the end it shows the sun going down behind the Statue of Liberty. Was that really a reverse of the sun rising on the east coast?
In the UK we have lost our liberty. At my child's wedding (after the total wedding ban, the longest since the 1500s for Catholics in England) we were allowed only 13 masked guests distanced in a massive church and even then in this family of singers it was against the law to sing 2 hymns. Although football fans seem to be allowed to sing as they choose in churches up and down the land it is illegal even for 2 old ladies to sing. On Monday 19 July supposed "freedom day" the main restrictions on our freedoms - masks in shops and trains - remain. Hopefully people will no longer be restricted by law from singing but we shall see. We have been sleep walking internationally into a life without freedom. What is life without freedom?
I am so very sorry but my laptop battery is getting low Dave Churchward
I viewed the Memorial Day show 2021 rebroadcast. I normally really enjoy the Tab Choir; however, this show seems to be all about patriotism to the USA, In my view it is inappropriate for an international church. I have lived in Canada where there are thousands of LDS members. Did the Tab sing "O Canada" on the Canadian Memorial Day? How about the German patriotic day, whenever that is. It appears that we worship the USA. I know that is not true; however, the appearance of wrong should be avoided. Our God is a jealous god and we should only worship our God and his Son. That being said, I still love "Music and the Spoken Word."
Work on, please!
Love the Tabernacle Choir, but it represent the world wide Church of Jesus Christ, not the USA, the USA patriotic songs are beautiful. But here the choir is showing that the church is an American church, it shouldn't sing patriotic song of any country at all or sing of all countries. The choir should think of the sensitivities of members and citizens of other countries.
I don't know... something has happened to the sound of the choir that makes it rather boring to listen to. Gone is the strength and power. It sounds like a large group of people all singing mezzo piano the whole time. High notes are always ethereal and straight tone. I miss the "singing" sound.
