The great thing about nobody caring about SMK is that the most intense reaction you get from someone disagreeing with you is, "Oooo... I would've ranked that a little bit higher, but I do not care enough to argue."
The virgin: Trying to get into the video 💀💀💀 VS The chad: making it into the video by accident ☠🐺 That Donut plains music placement is still insane but thanks for putting me into the video my mission here is complete 💪
One time somebody said the BC2 shortcut was too hard for it to be a factor in ranking the track, so I booted my SNES and did it 4 times in a row out of spite
I will always hold SMK near and dear to my heart for laying the groundwork on what is arguably my favorite party/racing game franchise of all time, but a ton of these tracks have aged about as well as unpasturized milk left out in the Sahara Desert. The soundtrack though will remain a BOP!!!
Really good ranking Sir Musty. I've never played Super Mario Kart so I can't really agree or disagree with any of your choices, but I'm gonna play it and then ranking the courses myself. Also about Mario Circuit 4, I do think is gonna come back in the next game as the final course in the Banana Cup. I also think is going to be the only SNES course in the base game.
Honestly, Super Mario Kart is something one should try playing just to see how far the series has come. Good for back in the day, but it was doomed to age.
Mario Circuit 1’s pretty interesting in that, for a first course in a game that birthed the Kart Racing genre, it’s surprisingly challenging how it begins on a 45-degree turn and the amount of obstacles & off-road to contend with. It’s not something you’d see in any other beginning Mario Kart course since. Mario Circuit 3 is actually the first course fully created for SMK (the mid-game levels/ stages/ challenges are what usually get completed first in games development) so I get Nintendo’s favouritism towards it to an extent though its complete lack of changes makes it tiring to see again and again (it’s Mario Kart’s Green Hill Zone essentially). Even though MC4 is essentially just a mirrored MC3 but with more pipe obstacles and narrow roads, for a game as simple and quaint as SMK it does make it feel like a whole new design. We live in a Post-N64 RR/ GBA MC remake world where even the blandest of courses can be made some of the most beloved when given a modern revamp, and MC4 more than deserves that chance. Vanilla Lake’s colour palette’s an absolute flash-bang to the senses. I get it’s an ice level so of course it’d rely on light blue and white as its main colours but it’s just excessive and makes me feel I’m going snow-blind, which makes even seeing the ice block obstacles on the track a massive pain.
when you were talking about the bowser castle ost I glanced over at the playlist and misread "luigi's jingle" as "luigi's jungle" and briefly thought it was some sort of unused forgotten track that nobody talked about. I am so tired right now. also choco island's music is a bop and i'm disappointed in you for creating an entire tier just to hate on it.
Mario Circuit 3 is truly the Nepo Baby of the MK series (as it was the first track designed for the game) I am also a BC2 defender. If you hate this track, you are just wrong.
Something doesn’t get mentioned in Mario Circuit 4 is the sand cut right at the start, skipping the 1st set of items for a decent lead. In Super Circuit, you can use the Mini Turbo from the 1st turn to use the cut.
26:51 *Ahem* The Sir Musty NintenL situation is crazy. I'll be here all night folks. As someone who's actually played Super Mario Kart recently (albeit for about 2 hours and I only got to beating 100cc Star Cup), I have to say some of the tracks here have a lot of charm to them. I was actually surprised by how engaging OG Bowser Castle 3 is. It's no wonder why the remake slaps so hard if they had this to base it on. The pick a path section alone is a great idea that takes advantage of how Super Mario Kart does items. Also, if they ever bring back BC2 I want them to keep the dead end. It is integral to the tracks identity along with not being that hard to tell if it's a dead end, especially if you fall for it one. BC2 has some small hiccups, the dead end is not one of them. Last thing, shout out to Ghost Valley 2 for being my only successful Feather shortcut.
this is the most open-minded review of anything super mario kart related that i've seen from anybody so far (and that's not even me trying to talk down on SMK haters because i too am yet to beat the skill issue allegations)
CI's whole thing is knowing how to drift and keep that speed when you get to the bumps. Alongside adjusting your turning in the air. CI 1 even has feather cut that skips half the track.
Donut Plaims 3 and me have personal beef. Me and SMK grew up together (I'm older than it but not by much!), so imagine all the after schools spent learning the tough controls, getting excited to discover the Special Cup... and then getting stonewalled on like 90% of my attempts by failures after failure on DP3. The smooth control of MK8 made the remake cathartic lol.
SMK haters when they see the feather shortcut: "Oh my god, this is horrible track design, it's so awful, it's a terrible shortcut, it's bullcrap 😭😭😭' MK8DX fans when they see the BC3 remake having a path that leads to lava at the beginning to the right: 'Oh my god, this track is sooooo goooood! I love this remake, I love BC3, Charlie! I LOVE BC3!!!!!'
I have a memory of you saying you wanted to remake some of your tier lists, is that something you plan on doing or do you want to just move on from Mario kart haha
Pretty reasonable rankings overall me, I think SMK has a pretty solid soundtrack overall (more bops than I expected having never played much SMK or Super Circuit compared to the other games) also been working on how to word the response for Sonic Adventure DX, but what I *_can_* say is I think it will surprise you (P.S. if you'd still like a spoken/video response, I can gladly oblige and would do my level best) to get to the heart of the matter - I do genuinely really like Sonic a great deal (very over-hated franchise, really can't spell "ignorant" without "IGN") never gotten to play as many Sonic games as I have Mario or some others, but Sonic's musical pedigree is second-to-none - and Sonic Adventure 1 is no exception, listen at all this gold +the hustle 'n bustle of Station Square +Emerald Coast greeting you with with good vibes +the friendly flow & winding winds of Windy Valley (also great use of harmonica, don't hear that much outside of Wild West settings) +Dilapidated Way (Casinopolis Sewers) might be in my All-Time Top 10 for the series? really good +the driving verve of Speed Highway +going from mood to mood through Ice Cap Zone (which must've been a lot to unpack for fans of Ice Cap in 3&K when they heard "yo, Ice Cap's back" - very cool) +joyous bells & chimes in Twinkle Park, fitting for a theme park +the sounds of boundless adventure on Red Mountain +capped off by the rock-solid foundation for future vocal Sonic anthems in "Open Your Heart" as Sonic saves Chaos from the Perfect Storm of his discontent +also, all the character themes slap - Believe In Yourself (Tails), It Doesn't Matter (Sonic), Lazy Days in Paradise (Big), Unknown From M.E. (*knock-knock, it's Knuckles*), etc. still hope to correct my Proficiency Deficiency in terms of Sonic gameplay experiences, but I hope that clears some of the air, good Sir Musty (:
Was this recorded like a year ago? You mentioned this in past tense in the Schaffrillas video and you expressed more positive feelings about Vanilla Lake’s music in another recent vid (though that might have been a bit) Still, either way nice to have my hands on brand new Mustent™️
This was recent - the Vanilla Lake praise in the past must have been me taking the opposite stance to the live chat for a miniscule amount of tomfoolery

Even by Super Mario Kart standards, this might be the first time I hear someone say something nice about Vanilla Lake 2
Yeah that track is very unpopular

My beloved track... in its natural habitat. You love to see it. And it has a ranking I agree with too? This can't be better.
I wish Mario Circuit 4 in this game got a remake beyond Super Circuit instead of Mario Circuit 3 getting remade in 3D twice.
Honestly, Super Mario Kart is something one should try playing just to see how far the series has come.
