When you look at what the Lakers had left to offer for a big-- it was only either Knecht or Reeves that were attractive enough. So yeah, this made sense for the Lakers. I think even they didn't trade AD, this would've still been the outcome that made sense.

Dude has averaged almost 30-10 this past month, he's 23 and had one injury he was rushed back from and hurt it again and it cost him a lot of games, but he's completely on the right side of that now and it hasn't been an actual ton of injuries, just one that nagged because of the situation he was placed in.
He grabs boards like crazy on the offensive end, especially, he can pass out of the post insanely well, he can actually defend 1-5 sneaky well even if he isn't completely lock down, and he can pretty much dunk from a calf raise but has hops for days. He's Luka's prototypical Center pairing.
With the amount of screen, lobs, and defense requirement he will do the injury will highly come

Die hard Charlotte fan. I don’t know how to feel about losing mark, but the lakers got a great young center. A good rebounder and one hell of a lob threat. He’s not the best “rim protector” but he gives 100% effort. He’s been dealing with some back injuries, but hopefully he puts it all together in LA.

Hornets fan here... We definitely fleeced this trade!!! Mark Williams has great upside & potential but his lower back injury is pretty baaaad. He's hurt a lot. His height and length is absolutely undeniable and offensive rebounding is nice. Ifey rim protector though. But we got Knecht 4 and Reddish (two scorers that turn up randomly) with a 1st round pick.

I understand the frustration of Laker fans about Knecht because he is been performing really well as a rookie. But he is soon to be 24, the Lakers also have Luka, Reaves, LeBron on the perimeter and they really needed a center. You have to give something to get something good in return and the Lakers did what they had to do to be relevant now but also acquire a piece for their future with Luka. The probably had to give an extra pick to get the deal done, but you can say they saved some picks from the Luka trade so they had the luxury to do so. Mark William's health is of major importance of course in that trade. Hope he will be on the court more than his time in Charlotte.

Lakers traded an nba2k rated 77 in Dalton Knecht for an 84(!) in Mark Williams, a back-up 2-guard for a starting center, a roster redundancy for a major need, and somehow got younger!
Side note: Lakers also added in a fringe NBA player in Cam Reddish, a ‘30 pick swap that probably won’t convey, and a first round pick in ‘31 that projects to around #25 in the draft.

He got a current top 3 player in the league and a up and coming 7ft All Star for 2 “potentially” decent players, Dalton Knecht who couldn’t remember the play book, Cam Reddish who has under performed ever since he was drafted, Max Christie who basically has the same skill set as Austin Reaves, and Anthony Davis who is inconsistent and can’t beat Jokic to save his life. Too many unreliable players. They would be good IF they click at the same time but you’re praying for a miracle. Luka and Mark Williams are 2 blue chip players with instant impact and can grow together.

Williams looks like just a decent player having a bigger scoring number year. You can usually tell the value of a player by how many minutes they play per game. Unless he has not yet reached his full potential which is possible. But Knecht is a scoring talent and bomber with much greater potential.

Pelinka made the perfect move. Williams is an ascending young physical bigman who can defend players like Jokic and have the agility and verticality needed on an offense run by Luka and Lebron. You might think this is lopsided but believe me when I say this, the guy is a 15/10 guy right now. Next year this would be 20/10. that's the kind of player that the Lakers just snatch at 23yrs old.

Williams is 74th percentile in blocks, 83rd percentile in rebounding, he’s an excellent offensive rebounder all while averaging 16ppg at 23 yrs old. He makes an impact.

They have 4 other players on the team who’s attempting more 3 point shots and is hitting them at a better rate. Knecht is shooting 36% on 4.5 attempts like we need to relax as if he’s shooting 41% on 10 attempts

Lakers are a good shooting team (luka,AR,Lebron Dfs,Rui ,C wood ,Gabe)- we didn’t need any more shooters , DK4 my fav player when hot but this trade gives so much more as MW is a glass cleaner and a lob threat fitting lukas center profile. He can easily average 19/10 now with 3 playmakers on the team
You don't watch Laker's basketball it seems. Reaves, LeBron, DFS, Rui and Gabe are all hitting 3s at a good clip. Then you add Luka as well.
Dalton was barely a rotational player for us because of the amount of wings we have. Now we get a center without sacrificing any depth.
Mavs took like 5-6 years to bring luka a good fit in the center position. Lakers took 2 days to bring him a better fit than gafford. Honestly, good for Luka

I really hate losing Knecht it does hurt but we needed a center much more plus we have role players who can pick up knecht spot
"You have to give to get" - exactly! Mark Williams is a solid young center and fits a position of need. Reddish and a 2031 pick alone would not have been enough to get a player like him. Knecht likely would have played a smaller role now with Luka on the team anyway.
Kneict 4. Loved his game. The Lakers feel good about the perimeter they just wanted a rolling rebounding center that don’t need the ball just ready to finish and or rebound
