- Rock Candy Mine located North of Grand Forks BC was a fluorite mine that supplied flux to the Trail smelter before it closed in the 1940s. Fluorite is really colorful under a black light. We were able to document this mine before it was blasted shut by the owner. They once offered tours
to the public but no longer do.
This is a fast paced and exciting Mine Exploration Channel. We have been in hundreds of abandoned mines in Canada, United States and Mexico. Recently we have purchased our own abandoned mine the Yankee Boy Mine! We are rehabilitating the mine so the public can explore an abandoned mine for themselves safely. This mine might have been for smelting but fluorite is used to make hydrofluoric acid and then everything that contains fluorine. All kinds of good stuff. Like air conditioning.
It is an industrial mineral.
