America is so big and diverse many people from Europe have a hard time understanding why Americans mostly vacation/holiday in America.

    • @pyrovania

One big reason is that Americans only get two weeks of vacation time per year, compared with 4-5 weeks in most of Europe.

You find the positives in every situation and in every place. I hear a lot of criticisms from Europeans who have never even been to the US. Most of California is natural or agricultural. The central valley produces an insane amount of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. There's deserts, giant mountain ranges, forests with the largest, tallest and oldest trees in the world, and a coastline unlike anywhere else in the US. You could spend a month driving around California and never run out of different landscapes to see.

Ah, San Diego. I grew up in LA in the late 60's, 70's and early 80's and have been to San Diego many, many times since I had family there. It's my favorite southern California city. The climate, the people and the way of life there is just superb. It has many of the great things of LA without most of the bad things.

Glad you enjoy California. It is the biggest population state with 40,000,000 people but they are mostly compressed around the coastline around the biggest cities. The state is quite large in area too. For example Italy is 301,000 sq. km. and California is 423,000 sq. km. Plenty of room left over for nature. Two things I would recommend are the Joshua Tree National Park and the Sequoia National Park. Sequoia's are the largest living plants on earth and the Joshua Tree's look otherworldly. Hope to see more videos.🙌

I'll put it this way. It's entirely common for people who live in California to go on vacation in another part of California because it's just different than where they are from and within driving distance. People live in LA or San Francisco and drive to the mountains to camp or snowboard or ski. Very common.

I grew up and went to UCLA in SoCal. California now the 7th biggest economy in the word! And it's THE MOST DIVERSE AREA in the world. L.A. alone has the world's largest populations of Filipinos, Mexicans, Central Americans, etc. outside their homelands. Whatever is going to be the "in thing" fashion or trend in 2 years is the big thing today! L.A. has a 10,000 mountain (Old Baldy and huge areas of desert in addition to it's many miles of wide beaches for surfers and sunbathers. Made me so homesick just to see your video. That's why Westerners would never consider moving East!

I've been a Rush fan for many years now, and I instantly recognized the Moving Pictures record cover. Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart played as Rush for 40 years, and decided to call it quits when Neil Peart sadly passed away. In the USA Mexican dishes typically are served with rice and beans, but in Mexico, rice and beans are a la carte. Chimichangas are especially good as are enchiladas. Thank you Marie for showing us how much fun you are having! :)

There is quite the varied climate here in California, but you did get to see it at it's best after all the rain. We got a record amount of rain and snow this past winter which helped make everything green when you arrived. There's a saying that you can go skiiing the mountains in the morning, and go tan on the beach in the afternoon! So glad you enjoyed the trip! Next time you come to California, you need to see places like Yosemite and Sequoia National Park!

So true. I live a block from the beach in San Diego and can be on the beach til noon, take an hour drive to the mountains covered in snow, have fun in the snow, have a good meal in a quaint mountain eatery, stop for some of the best homemade pies ever made before heading out of town and arriving home before the sun sets.
If I continued east a bit towards AZ I can be in the sand dunes which is a heckn of a fun time. Head north instead, an area of wineries. I can be in a couple ski resorts in a few hours, drive a few more and I can be in the Mohave Desert, Yosemite. On the coast I can be on Hwy 101 with it's spectacular scenery. It's so glorious and it's just a small fraction of the natural beauty of the state. The majority of the state is unpopulated. California also has the largest number of National Parks (9) in the contiguous U.S (the lower 48 states).

You are definitely lucky that you got to visit Southern California when you did!! We have had the most annual rain we’ve ever had in like literal decades lol This past winter it was raining NONSTOP. It got a little annoying (cause we’re spoiled and used to it barely raining throughout the year), but it will ultimately be good to help prevent wild fires that come in the fall. Plus it makes everything (i.e the landscape) so beautiful! I’ve never seen it so green here before. Usually the landscape is so bland, brown and with half-dead shrubs everywhere, so you came at the perfect time. ❤
And yes California’s geography is so diverse (its people as well). San Diegians live in the most perfect spot. I can literally walk three minutes west and walk on the beach, drive two hours east and go to the desert, or drive two hours northeast and go to the mountains. During winter there’s snow on the mountains as well so I don’t even need to leave California to experience snow. It’s great!

Glad you enjoyed your visit to southern California! San Diego all by itself has so much to see and do, and I'm happy you got to experience so much of it! Good Mexican food and a margarita is always a great highlight of any day! As others have noted, California has an amazing diversity of scenery and terrain... sandy deserts, snow capped mountains, rolling green hills, amazing beaches, some of the most spectacular trees, and during the time of year you picked to visit, there's often an abundance of wildflowers blooming to add even more beauty to the scenery. I noticed that on your drive up I-15 to Pasadena you got to see some of the "superbloom" of poppies on the hills along the way.
I often say that if you drive like the typical crazy Californian, you can ride a dirt bike or dune buggy in the dunes in the morning, have lunch by a mountain lake, and enjoy a sunset with a margarita at the beach.
There are several fun things to see and do in Pasadena and much of the surrounding area. I hope to see a few more of my favorites turn up in your upcoming videos!

Talking about California being so green: The moisture-laden winds flowing from west to east are forced to rise by the long mountain ranges along the eastern side of CA. This causes much more rain than normal which creates the climate and healthy vegetation. For the same reason the land to the east of those same mountains is desert because the winds are now dry blowing east. This rainfall as the clouds rise is called "orographic" rain.

The section you titled OMG OMG OMG with the muscle cars made me think that should you be able to find yourself in the Detroit, Michigan area on the Third Saturday in August of any year, we have the Woodward Dream Cruise which is the largest gathering of classic cars, muscle cars, unique vehicles, and modern muscle cars from all over the world which "Cruise" up and down one of the oldest roadways in the US. Ford usually has an entire section devoted to Mustangs, and Mustang owners often have an area where at least one Mustang from every year ever made is available to be viewed (and sometime interacted with.) I think you'd love it. Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed

Hi Marie 💕!! I just loved your video tonight of your final San Diego day and drive to L.A. It all started with a lovely "good morning" and a DR. PEPPER (my favorite soda - remember the museum in Waco, TX I mentioned?) 🤗. Kobey's Swap Meet was really something else, and pretty big too. I loved you in your brown hat and sunglasses' and pretty shirt 😍. The market had SO MANY colorful thngs, like the rugs and throws and movie posters (I saw Marilyn Monroe)! I wish you could have gotten that beautiful guitar-like instrument Marie ❗It was so fun seeing you love that RUSH record (I have a record player and tons of old records here - love them all - memories ❤). There were so many stuffed animals and decorations, dinosaurs, just a little of everything ☺, and nothing can make your video more wonderful than seeing you SO HAPPY and jumping and dancing and bouncing around having fun with the famous and beautiful Marie Smile 🥰❤!! There were antiques, sports card collections, giant sunflowers, a cool elephant bag, dolls, shoes, just everything 😍. And naturally you found such cute dogs (the bull dog loved you) before you left. I loved the train you were moving along with afterwards heading to Old Town State Historical Park (you made a pretty high jump in there - impressive 😲🤗! Again we saw so many colors (that girl's face next to the octopus), and also a handsome old mission building, and cool tour bus, before you went to Cafe Coyote (cool name!!) with its pretty tiles! P.S. We had a coyote looking our homes over yesterday behind us near the woods 😲. First off, those were big, colorful Coyote Fruit Margaritas (unbelievable fruit combination including pomegranates (a favorite fruit from my childhood!). And then the delicious Chimichanga and Chicken Enchilada Plates - yummm 😋😋! Those old cars, red and green, were so cool, and then the blue/black motorcycle - nice!! There were all sorts of shops with Cippity Dots, Pretzels, colorful masks and twisting objects, a pink skull, pottery and bracelets, cartoon characters from the Nightmare Before Christmas movie, and even more skulls 💀💀. The Whaley House and Old West Wagon were cool, and we see ony 650 people there in 1850! I saw the dual flags (US/Mexico) before you pranced through the archways from those cacti blossoms 🤗 and passed the Cosmopolitan Hotel - wow! There were nice cacti plants, and then Barra Barra and the Fiesta De Reyes. You caught 3 red cars in one picture too 💕, before the IM SPY C license plate, and all those bicyclists too ❗ I loved the huge sandy beach and seeing you play and chase those birds (with that playful smile ☺. I recognize road names from my visits to my sister and mom out there, and my sister lived in Riverside for awhile. I adored all the green hills and mountains and the huge field of orange and green (brings back memories), and the ❤N TRVL license! Then you finished with the tunnel and night time driving - lovely day Marie 😍. I agree with you about the fun uniqueness of the markets, with fun things we don't need, lol. I'm sorry about your sunscreen and eye mess, and I hope your eyes did not hurt you! I also loved the clarity of the RUSH sound from somewhere, Old Town, and the lovely colors of spring time (AND the very nice Caifornia weather!). We visited my sister's in-laws in Pasadena and saw the Rose Bowl there (I am anxious to see what you did there ⁉). Sorry about the horrible weather on your initial drive from Phoenix to SD - wow!! And I also was stunned by the take-offs and landings of planes right overhead (SD airport is known as very challenging by pilots) 😲😲. What is that "Secret Lab" behind you 😂? Thank you for another WONDERFUL FUN video with a very happy Marie - I very honestly LOVED this ❣ We'll see you in the next LA video, and as always Marie, please take care 🙏🥰❤

Happy 4th to all in the U.S. 🇺🇸🎆🎇

I have very fond memories of going to the flea market with my uncle when I was a kid. It was his most favorite thing to do before he got sick. He is no longer here unfortunately, but seeing the sight of that flea market really brought back some good memories. It's amazing the kind of stuff you will find there. The gentleman selling the records looks like he had quite the amazing collection. A lot of the records he had, I noticed I have on compact disc! Looking forward to the next chapter of your California adventure! 🌞🌴 🌊✈️🌎⚜️

Yeah, go up to northern California around Mt. Shasta (which is actually a stratovolcano) and it's even prettier. Plus, a drive up the coast through Big Sur and Carmel heading into San Francisco is just stunnng. So gorgeous. And if you ever get a chance to drive through the redwood forest, it will blow you away. Such amazing giant trees. OH, and Yosemite! Yeah, CA has a lot to offer nature-wise.

Utah has probably the best skiing in the country. So you have that, too. Tahoe isn't bad though.
