Many on benefits, drugs, petty crime, thugs etc, covers virtually everyone so not your normal neighbour. The longer Ashley stayed there, the more she would have realised the truth about it, making comparisons with the rest of Chelmsford which is a wealthy, stable town. In the uk there is a law called Claire’s law This scheme gives any member of the public the right to ask the police if their partner may pose a risk to them. It is often called ‘Clare’s Law’ after the landmark case that led to it.
This scheme also allows a member of the public to make an enquiry into the partner of a close friend or family member.
Unfortunately it’s not well known as I believe it’s quite new but dating apps should 100% be tougher, people are really good at acting nice and getting into others lives until it all goes wrong or they don’t get their way

What bothers me most in this case is the neighbor, who could have saved Ashley’s life after she sought help from her. Even if Ashley didn’t want the police to be involved, the older lady should have known better. The signs were rather obvious.

Thank you for sharing Ashley's sad story, it is so heartbreaking. There is more to tell about what is to be learned from this: people HAVE to be taught in school and family about limits in relationships, verbal abuse, physical abuse and violence, and that they should act, not only wait for help (as Asley waited for her sister to... come and take her home??)

  • @estianna76

This is absolutely heartbreaking, I feel so sorry for her family & obviously Ashley too… I hope the sister is successful in changing laws to make it so you can look someone up & check if they have a criminal past of any kind, maybe that will make a difference to whether people decide to meet up with others in person or not!!!
As for Jacks attempt at an apology letter… I think it sounds like he’s trying to exonerate himself & victim blame both Ashley & her family. He’s a pos & needs to rot in prison for what he’s done. His sentence is also far too lenient, he should never be free from a prison cell imo, a life for a life! I believe in the death penalty for murderers where there is no shadow of doubt. I hate that they don’t have the death penalty here in the UK! Especially for pos’s like him!!

The killer, Jack Sepple, lived in a council flat in Tennyson Road, Chelmsford, Essex, one of the very poorest and roughest areas of this small town(recently made a city, but still quite small). I know this because I'm from Chelmsford myself and know the place and all around inside out. Luckily I live in a better quality part of Chelmsford, But just one look at Sepple and I would know where he came from and that he was low class. No decent girl(as Ashley was)would go anywhere near Sepple. This shows the danger of meeting people on the internet. Outwardly they can give an impression of okayness, but you don't know the background. Sepple must have lied to Ashley to entice her to go all the way from Canada to Chelmsford and I'm sure she must have been shocked when she saw where he lived and his low life style. Why she stayed I don't know, maybe she became scared of him from the start and so went along with Sepple, fearing consequences if she rejected him. This wouldn't surprise me. I'm telling you as someone who knows Chelmsford really well since I was a child that Sepple is definitely scum. And like much scum, he's dangerous because of his anger and resentments at being a low life. I would never mess with the scum of Chelmsford and keep well away from them, I've never met them, I¡m very sorry poor naive Ashley was taken in by such filth. 23 years isn't enough for him, Sepple should be imprisoned whole life,

Might be an unpopular opinion, but no it most likely wouldn't have made a difference if Ashley had known of his background before going to meet him. Many, MANY people have fallen victim to listening to their emotions rather than their senses. Her family likely tells themselves that to feel better (which no judgement, I can't imagine how it feels to lose someone like this) but if they didn't "drag her out of the airport regardless of being 19" simply out of common sense of the known dangers around meeting a stranger (I don't care how long you've known them online, they are a stranger), then I doubt it would have made a difference as to his record; if Ashley knew and was that attached and didn't care, she wouldn't have told her family about that anyway.

Hi Savannah i haven't commented in awhile but you covering this case brings me to the same thing that I am telling or that I have told my 18 year old niece and she's away USF I don't know if you know where that's at but it's in Tampa Florida about five and a half hours from where we live and I told her when you go to the bathroom at a frat party you take a friend with you you will always walk in three groups or more and she is very bubbly beautiful smart and really couldn't get away from home quick enough but my nephew on the other hand he couldn't wait to get home but yet he is going to Gainesville and that's where he graduated from U of f he just did but his girlfriend is going for her physician's assistant license and she's trying to get moved here because it's just a hike for him and the car is not reliable well none of that part was reliable but just how you brought this case to light a really loved how you did it and again it just makes me think of my niece you know being in the sorority at a cheerleader it just scares the shit out of me and she even told my sister I'm going to be home this weekend one of the guys is driving up and to my friends are coming and I'm like what guy is driving her and my sisters like I don't know him but I know their two friends and I said I don't care you tell her she needs to stay home but she's not mine and I can't tell her what to do or what not to do I don't know if you've ever covered the Heather Elvis case but I would love for you to do so her captors are behind bars however they never found her body and all they want to do is bring her home so I would love for you to look into that for me thank you🌻🥰💋🧚‍♂️🌹😍❤️ by the way you looked absolutely gorgeous tonight 😍

How could Ashley sleep with Jack in the same BED (dorm and apartment) after being abused repeatedly, and beaten? How could she stay there any longer, is beyond my understanding. Love vanishes instantly after being beaten, and abused verbally, what kept her there? I think she didn't learn much about self-respect in her medium and past relationships. Ok, she was young, but there is an instinct to run from violence.

I’m absolutely heartbroken, this man is someone I actually met once. I instantly got a awful feeling about him and wanted to leave which he wouldnt let me. I did leave.. this hits so close to home and I am deeply sorry to Ashley’s family for there loss. Words can’t explain the feeling I have..

I typed out my comment before the video admitted the guy admitted in his chat he was mentally ill. So she knew and took her chances. That's messed up.

I know it’s not OK to be angry at the family has in her family or her friends or anyone besides him. But a part of me can’t help but be angry at the fact that her sister saw the pain her sister was in knew what was going on and chose to wait and not address it and not help her sister not go directly there book a flight after what the fifth time this happens to her I don’t understand and I know it’s not OK for me to say that because his sister is in pain and I’m pretty sure she’s felt like she could’ve done more and she is doing more, it just makes me angry because I have had people who have been there for me when I’m going through something really bad such as this case and I’ve been there for people even if I have to walk it or bus it to you or go on a plane or do anything I have also done welfare checks on many people I just don’t get it. I’m sorry I don’t get the wait. I know people prefer to let people deal with it on their own because I’ve been that person that says everything’s fine and no not everything’s fine but if you truly know your family member, you wouldn’t want anybody to hurt them and the fact that this escalated to her murder is horrific. I really hope he has nightmares every single day for what he’s done and what he’s put so many people, through the fact that he wrote that letter to her family in a nonchalant kind of way and a wall you guys all knew who I was, when in reality, nobody knew what he had done, and what he was capable of until the end, I hope her family heals and I do hope things change and savanna you’re absolutely correct people really do need to be careful online and meeting people. Yes there’s not all bad apples, but there is horrible people out there. I know firsthand how the Internet works, and I’ve been in a crazy situation‘s both personally, and because of others just be careful and take care of yourselves.

She was about as dumb as dirt. Not trying to be mean but to have them sit down together I mean come on if she would have spoken to Ashley by herself she would have heard and seen that Ashley was a very abused girl but she tells them okay I got to go now like really??? Sometimes people just make you go hmmm 🤔

Ashley should have left him and his house (at a hotel) immediately after he started to be aggressive verbally. How could she stay there any longer after he hit her is beyond understanding. She should also flee to the police and report the situation, stay at a hidden hotel, and take the first flight to Canada. I wonder why Ashley did not talk with her parents, and sister about what was going on and why her sister did not yell immediately after first acknowledging of abuse, for her coming back to Canada. I also ask myself what that Mormon church taught her about enduring such ordeal in relationships, as i know that "church" is a weird church. Why Ashley should wait for her sister 2 days to come to take her home??? She was an adult, she should embark on the first plane - this is so childish, to stay in an abuser home being beaten to wait for what, her sister carry her luggage, or what???

I'm not victim blaming in any way.. but I find it strange her family would let her leave at 19 to spend 6 months in a country she's never Been at with a guy she's meeting the first time. I get she's 19, but she's still young and learning..

My condolences to the family. How brutal. Although I feel like this could have been avoided starting with her family. I’m Hispanic and in my culture the male is suppose to come to the girls house and meet her family first. He should have flown to her first with his mom atleast or even so considering online dating. IMO online dating is very 2 faced, you’re either catfished or someone may pose a certain way. It is impossible to catch someone slipping or their true colors online.
