I applaud you for using your brain! Apples & oranges is a perfect analogy. To others, This is designed for average consumers not rich robot enthusiasts.
The server is meant to pick up the "phone", actually a Skype video/VOIP call in this instance, and listen for speech commands. The commands are converted into infrared signals on the server side and transmitted to the robot. The robot does does not have LAN hardware and only responds to infrared.
This robot is now costs $24 USD new. The robots you are quoting cost a small fortune. Apples and oranges. Roboquad is a great robot for what it does. If you have $60,000 USD you can get the ShadowHand robot hand which is astonishing in capability. It's made in London, UK, not in Japan or the US. There are lot of super robotics companies in every country.
You can pilot him through other rooms by placing repeaters throughout the house that relay the infrared transmitted by the PC/infrared transmitter. Or, you could mount one of the repeaters (IR to RF to IR) on the Roboquad and then you could pilot him anywheres.
The point is the robot is being controlled from across the Internet, is responding to voice commands when the stock model doesn't, and is transmitting video over the Internet as a remote spy.
Your English is fine and so are your ideas. WLAN/Bluetooth is a much better solution than infrared, especially since it does not have to be line of sight, etc. But with WowWee's Rovio coming soon which has all of that, I haven't done more with the Roboquad/Skype project.
wow that is amazing. but doesnt it affect the spying ability because it doesnt respond right at the second the command is given? like for example. if roboquad is walking and theres an object infront and its very close to the object, wouldnt it run into it even if you told it to halt because the robo quad doesnt respond at that very second the command is given? i find robotics very interesting where can i learn more?
Sure, any robot you put a wireless camera on would work. But the Roboquad doesn't rock side to side and it's head is the perfect pan and tilt platform.
There is some lag and yes you'd have to take care not to run into a wall. But that's pretty easy to do since you can see obstacles coming; just don't walk into them.
is the robodance a hacking software or is it a software that the wowwee creators have allowed. I just dont want to be downloading illegal software onto my computer
It is an independent program that WowWee does not own that operates a robot remotely from a computer instead of using the robot's stock remote control. Your usage of the words hacking and illegal does not apply here since the software run on an external computer and not the robot itself, which also means that the robot's warranty is not voided.
hmmmm... excellent. one problem though. Roboquad can't be much of a spy bcuz people with hear him coming with those loud gears of his. other than that he's perfect. oh, by the way i just bought a laptop with Skype service included, (this might sound like a dumb question but) how do i activate it?
I specialize in "warranty-friendly" hacks. More invasive hacks are fun of course but I like to create things people without heavy duty tech skills could try themselves.
Actually it only works for bout 8 hrs. :) I was about to make a real solution which turned the camera off during hibernate, but with the WowWee Rovio robot now available, there isn't much point.
oh crap i wanted to put a good to ur comment but i accidentally pressed poor realy sorry...anyways roboquad or roboboa?just asking cos maybe roboquad walks a weee bit slow
a DIY rc tank would be muck cheaper ...no remote require just a cheap radio transmiter and reciver controlled by simple software or winamp remote and messanger ...no voice no noise...but this is just a idea...

These are the Roboquads from Wowee. I don't think they're supposed to be out until around Christmastime.
it can,that state is called"autonomic"
witch means it acts on its own, scouting and mapping.

you can also place special cameras in the upper corner of the room and you can see tru the camera by calling a special phone number

Very cool use of your robots!
Yes it is, but I have X10 PowerMid receivers (IR retransmitters) around the house to provide wider coverage.
good job! Lot of systems integrated in one.

Roboquad is already shipping in the USA and internationally.
There is some lag and yes you'd have to take care not to run into a wall. But that's pretty easy to do since you can see obstacles coming; just don't walk into them.
where you get all those robots from??
If you have the extra software and hardware, yes, but the camera bouncing about would be hard to watch.
the poor robot is trying to say "KILL ME KILL ME "
LOL :P
The robot should respond faster if it's just pure text, since it doesn't have to analyze speech. It is very possible to do this.
When you hibernate the camera stays on tho right? so this only works for a few days?
Would this be more expensive than a Rovio? I believe so..
It's just a cheap 2.4GHz one I got off eBay. Note, it gets a *lot* of noise. I just used masking tape to rig the battery.
what kind of camera is it?
how can you use the webcam that is wireless and where did you buy that webcam is that already there?
how did you connect the camera to the computer and where did you get it?
excellent but roboquad have a very slow movements, is lazy and half-sleepy, can works like a toy but for surveillance? i don't thik so =(
does it sprint?
he/she is referring to Arnold Schwarzineggar (or however u spell it)
Well, doesn't it make a little too much sound to be a spy robot?
do anybody know, where I can buy these webcam?
Awesome Robert, well done. I gonna have to get a Roboquad now arnt I?
??? how much r they?

Not to mention the fact someone is yelling commands from a PC to it? ;)
LOL. Never made that connection, now I see it. Now I'll have to find a Zealot costume for my Robosapien V2.
I must admit that this is very cool but it wouldn't be very good at spying as most people are likely to notice it entering the room.
omfg how much does it cost? its awesome but i wish it would move or do something it self while u dont give him any cmds its still awesim :D
vou aver mis une camera dans sa tête?
If it's that noisy... how you gonna spy on anything? Lets be honest.
how much does this cost dude
let me know when its autonamous
Eh, with all the noise it makes, it's not much of a spy cam unless u only move the head
It's on sale for $9.99 at Fry's right now.12,12, 2012
Actually it only works for bout 8 hrs. :)
I was about to make a real solution which turned the camera off during hibernate, but with the WowWee Rovio robot now available, there isn't much point.
could you just use msn and a mic?
wow u have most of the robots
i like how it is a special "spy" robot, but its loud as all hell... who is that critter gonna creep up on? deaf people?
Replace the legs with razor sharp scythes and you've got yourself a full fledged killing machine!
that would be useful with a taser as home defense
oh crap i wanted to put a good to ur comment but i accidentally pressed poor realy sorry...anyways roboquad or roboboa?just asking cos maybe roboquad walks a weee bit slow
Exactly what i was thinking!! especially when he commands the quad in skype lol ^_^
yeah but with a few bucks more you can buy him a Machine Gun attached in his eyes so the robber will be like wtf pwn3d
Thats awesome!
i dont think it can spy cuz of the noise it makes...
Ohu my god... You are so clever!!! =D 5/5
omg I wanna do the voice thingy SO BAAAADDD!!!
this is so cool
thank you for replying
True, but then again, Asimo needs a pet too and that's probably what it would look like. xD.

cool idea. not bad
they really coat $50?

LOL, Nice one, LOL!!!
Well thats still cool, just not to practical. Needs to work with an Rc blimp.
amazing man,,
I could get used to that.
MAKE ME A SAMMICH.
i got the Robosapien at the background
Awesome!!!!
I'd honestly would rather type commands to the robot.. I'd feel like an idiot talking to my laptop..
Amazon/US has them for $24 USD now. That's a steal.
cool
how the hell is that a great spy robot? its so loud and slow...
my friends and i insulated the wires in ours and put it in a pool it sounded scary
who will buy it for me?
a DIY rc tank would be muck cheaper ...no remote require just a cheap radio transmiter and reciver controlled by simple software or winamp remote and messanger ...no voice no noise...but this is just a idea...
All i wanna know is:
#1 - How much does that sweet ass robot cost?
#2 - Can i get 1 in Canada.
#3 - if no dice in Canada, where can i scoop 1 up?
It's verry class

This is how deaf people see the world. . .
Don't waste your time, it'd be easier for you to get Windows 98
