What Delain is demonising within the medicine world is the lack of humanity. The fact that we are seen as sheep with money instead of wool. That doctors would rather give you a pill than actually care and help you find the root cause. I spent most of my teen years being a guinea pig for shrinks because they listened to my family instead of me. Now I am 26. I'll never have a normal hormonal balance. I have constant issues with my weight because of the medication roulette as a teen. Yes medicine is necessary for many but we need humanity in care again. We need humanity everywhere. Can't expect someone to work 40 hours a week, barely make ends meet, eat junk food that is the only thing truly affordable, and not have some kind of problem or six from stress and such.

As a person who fights bipolar daily, this song has so much meaning. My doctors over the years have been like, "Oh, well, that didn't work? Okay, cold turkey stop the pill you're maxed out on, since it doesn't work, and let's put you on this instead." Every month. For four years. We never found one combination that worked. I noticed, with my newest doctor, the pills kept getting more and more expensive. Why? She was getting kickbacks from drug reps for prescribing certain pills. Yes, my body is an industry. Because someone makes a crapton of money off my illness.

As someone who was medicated (as in zombified) for “bipolar 1” from ages ELEVEN to almost 21, I feel this song on a spiritual level. Finally started living again in January when most of my psychiatric prescriptions were discontinued. I’m only on 3 pills now but when I was a teenager there was a time I was on 12 different daily meds, 8 of which were psychiatric. Withdraw in January was hell but it was 1000% worth it to feel alive again.

I always think why Symphonic Metal Bands always have lyrics themes about fantasies or just imaginative things. Delain keeps it real. They bring the lyrics to a new level.

The bridge into the chorus at 1:44 is brutal. I love it.
To me, the song has a double meaning. Yes, we have become a highly over medicated society, but there are the "lucky" ones like me that have no choice but to be medicated for life. I was born with a rare enzyme deficiency that causes all kinds of issues. To me, the lyrics are also symbolic of the general frustrations that I, and many of my friends that I've met who also suffer from the same condition, go through day after day, when sometimes even the smallest task feels like an attempt at climbing Mt. Everest, and you have no choice but to rely on medication and deal with the side effects in order to function at the most basic level. This condition causes chronic pain, anxiety, severe panic attacks, depression, a number of unpleasant cosmetic symptoms, racing heartbeat, high blood pressure, fatigue, and a severely altered perception of one's self (my reflection, pictures of myself and even recordings of my voice are DRASTICALLY different than the way other's view me). Certainly not looking for sympathy (what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I'm made of titanium at this point), but there are those of us who have to pop those little pills everyday that really don't have a choice. Kind of makes you feel trapped in your body. Glad this song exists. Certainly helps to have people that don't understand listen to it and read the lyrics, a sort of "welcome to my world" moment.
Well I may not have your enzyme deficiency but I think I might be able to relate in a way. I didn't feel the need to wear a seatbelt and went through the windshield of someone's car at 100 plus I hear. Definitely made of titanium now.

Love the lyrics. All those people only interpreting it as her demonising the medicine industry is rather unnuanced. The unnecessary prescriptions of antibiotics leading to resistance, antidepressants that more often than not prove to be ineffective for people, addiction to painkillers. Medicine has its bad side and addressing that does not belittle your positive experiences with drugs.
The pharmaceutical industry is evil. They create health issues in us, then they fill us with more of their poisons and keep us reliant on their drugs while slowly killing us with opioids and amphetamines. They keep us reliant on them for profit and nothing else. A doctor in a world of healthy people is a broke doctor.

adam norris Well she only did one song with Delain on record- Liv Kristine appears on several, with Marco (obviously) being on quite a few songs- hence "suggestion" to have them all live (again), with decent recordings and whatnot. ;) Check out Delain's earlier albums if you haven't, wasn't just random wishes. =)
Suiadan87 martijn is Roberts brother thus it would make it easy for both parties.liv has a horrible voice unlike sharon .the only person martijn wanted to guess sing after lucidity was marco.i have kept up with the band since day one.the only reason lucidity was done was because martijn was sick and he missed being in a band.i have two of my blacknight ibanez guitars autographed by kamelot and charlotte and martijn.I asked charlotte to write voice of a angel with a heart of gold.i asked martijn to write to never give up because he didn't[I have 3 slipped disk and ive tried to kill myself becacause of the fucking pain time,and I stay dopped up sometimes,so I related to martijn because he told me he went through a depressed state] .my username was mr marcoisgod and I have repeated over and over that delain is my favorite band.and charlotte is the best.to show you I have know problem with you just ask for some autographed cds,albums ,but not my guitars.iam just glad you like the same music I do.living in north Carolina you either hear pop,preaching,and fucking country.

Ok guys and gals, I went to the show on April 13 in Quebec. This concert exceeded my expectation by 1000% yes 1000%. Delain opened and was great, Sabaton was excellent, and of course Nightwish gave a show that was the greatest I had ever seen. If you dont see this tour, you have missed out on the best show of all time. Good sound, good audience, great venue. The meet and greet was fantastic also. The band members were fun to talk to and very accommodating. Dont miss this tour. If you do you will forever kick yourself for missing it.

It's good to hear Marco with the band again reminds me a little of The Gathering,one of my favorites but when they sing together this time I can actually hear Charlotte rather than her voice being overpowered by Marco's.

The last time I saw Delain live, they were headlining for Hammerfall. Delain came out on stage with Hammerfall and they did a song together. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life.

This song is about as subtle as an shotgun to the face, I get the message of being careful of what drugs and food we put in our bodies but it feels like their lecturing us rather than trying to build a compelling song.

Wow, damn this song is good. She's got some chops, doesn't hurt to have Marco (?) singing in the background. That guy just adds metal greatness to music. These 2 play well together as well. Sing to me was great. More Marco, more Delain = Great music.

I would say the "better" songs are left on the record this time. Here come the vultures, Army of Dolls, Lullaby and Tragedy of the Commons (that chorus is just stunning). And bonus song Scarlet is also really good. All in all I think this their strongest record yet.

This is going to sound like it's out of left field, but...... I am interested in starting a petition to have Charlotte play the character of Teela in the upcoming DC comics production of a new Masters of the Universe movie. Or at least have the role offered to her. I was having a discussion on who should play who, and Teela was the hardest, when it dawned on me that a fiesty warrior like red head was on my music playlist. I know it's a curve ball, but I think she would be wonderful. Thumbs up if I should dedicate a poll page for it for Delain fans. Hope some 80's kids agree with me.

To the OP.....The Human Contradiction is Delain's FIFTH album....or at least that's what my collection of ALL their cd's indicates :P
Technically it is their fourth as the last one (interlude) is a compilation album and not a studio album. When counting album numbers, compilation and live albums don't count for some reason.

Burro Bob I think they do it to indicate how many albums there are with NEW material. That way you can say XXX band had 10 albums that they wrote and played and YYY only had 2. Makes it easier to track how active they are as writers! IMHO
