    An explanation of what was ON the arch, names, sculptures, statues etc would have been informative as well. Thanks for the video.

    A big piece of the history is forgotten : WW1, the Arc de Triumph doesn't only commemorate the Napoleonic victories but also the sacrifices of WW1, after the victory in 1918, a massive ceremony was thrown under the Arc by the French government, and nowaday and eternal flame burns below it.

    Simon, Ken Gatward was a relative of my wife, the page from his flight book reads in a very understated manner typical of the man "Paris-no cover-0ft drop tricolours on arc Triumphe & Ministry marine shoot german HQ Little flak-No E.A. Bird in STBD oil radiator". Apparently they gave the bird a decent burial on landing!

    The only thing that comes close to Napoleon's victories is the guy (1:00) who was able to run across that insane roundabout to the Arch without getting killed.
