It really bothered me in the show that Max was upset Ginny didn’t tell her she wasn’t a virgin. Like it’s up to her to tell you and if she doesn’t want to then is none of your business!
Agree i thought max was totally overboard with her anger. Marcus is not untouchable just because it's her brother and virginity is a very personal thing! I believe hunter was the one that really deserved to be the most upset
My opinion about the writing bit was that they just wanted her to be a smart, feminist character. I've noticed that when writers rush a "feminist" character they immediately jump to writing. Even when the character is terrible to other women in the show. I think it has to do with the "not like other girls" trope.
yeah, they kind of just applied "ideal" characteristics and traits to her but it's not clear how she actually exemplifies or exudes those traits. i really hope they use her "writing talent" as a true outlet for her in season 2. based on the end of season 1, she'll need it!
I think the trope kind of is a throwback to when basically only strong, feminist women could read and write. For the longest time hardly anyone could read/write, but those who COULD were men. I read an article a couple years ago about Belle from Beauty & the Beast and how people nowadays mock how she thought she was so special for being a bookworm. But realistically, statistically, she WAS very special for it. At the time the story was set only about 20% of the population could read and about 23% of that 20% were women. So basically Belle was like one-fifth of the one-fifth and pretty special for it. 🤯
i know ginny & georgia has been out for quite a while & there's like 400 reviews out there, but one more review couldn't hurt, right? are you looking forward to season 2?
Honestly, the part of the show I enjoyed the most was whenever an argument was going on in the Baker house and they would be signing while arguing so their dad could be in on the drama. Edit: Also, with Max's relationship with a senior I think they did touch on her being too young/immature compared to Sophie. I can't remember exactly why they broke up because it's been a while, but I feel like it did have something to do with Sophie going off to college the next year and Max having these super unrealistic ideas about how their relationship would work.
My only issue is that these type of movies/shows only show white women with biracial (specifically half white) kids and never representing the black women who have them. I feel like this was a perfect opportunity to cast her with a black mom but anyways 💀
it would've been a good opportunity but seeing how they mishandled certain situations & discussions in the first season, i feel like the show would have still fumbled with a black mom in georgia's place smh
Nice review! One thing i personally disagree on is the pacing, I savoured the lengthy scenes and even found myself wishing the episodes were longer haha. Oh and i do get major chemistry from Marcus and ginny but it still doesn't make sense. I like Marcus though because he reminds me of someone i know irl who has a similar personality
Tbh I thought the whole point of Bracia was to like give Ginny someone to not like "avoid" but like show her struggling with not wanting to confront and embrace her blackness. Like she represents to Ginny a part of herself that she doesn't want to acknowledge yet. If that makes sense, I'm a shit writer. 😂😂 ALSO you missed Joe being the same actor that played Sav on Degrassi (the class/group before the girls you mentioned if I'm not mistaken)
i like your take on it! i feel like they could have gave bracia a bit more of a personality, rather than use her as a device or only when ginny is having a breakdown. here's to hoping that season 2 is an improvement!! & i'm not as well versed on the other seasons of degrassi :( but im glad you pointed him out!!
@@chenoafromnyc Oh yeah Bracia def deserves more fleshing out. Their whole dynamic seemed like "Hi I'm Bracia, we're both black let's be friends or at least organized allies" and Ginny was all like "Uhh ok that's kina weird but I'm busy struggling with a whole bunch of other shit at the moment" It would've been nice to see Bracia's other struggles as well, because crossover struggles are a real issue. Like, for me being one of the very few women at work, sometimes I'm in Bracia-mode with the other couple of women and sometimes I'm in Ginny-mode like "Ugh can I just live?!" But yeah next season, maybe 🤞
Thanks for this review. That’s a good point about the lack of conversation about race and the “magic negro” trope. And about Marcus too - coming through the window at the beginning. Made me uncomfortable.
Just watched this show so I’m a lil late but uhh Ginny was so annoying she literally got micro aggressions since day 1 from her so called friends and still was surprised they’d turn their backs on her. Also Marcus and Hunter are both terrible LI’s and I wish writers didn’t have to force it on their protagonists not everyone needs to be inna relationship imo but I get why they do it just write them better at least 😭 Joe is amazing and I understand why he won’t confront Georgia because he knows that she would never choose him which is so sad but Georgia and Joe are the best characters in this show I watch it for them lol
i have a feeling that joe is really gonna pull up and hold georgia down in season 2, especially since she is still being hunted down by that private investigator
@@chenoafromnyc honestly I see it going that way but if you think ab it Joe is way too pure and good for Georgia she would break him he doesn’t really know her imo it wouldn’t end well for them it’s sad but true
Ginny: Complains about book selection in the very first episode. Also Ginny: Never once reads a book all season 😆 Ginny: Yells at her mom about every choice she makes, especially about men. Also Ginny: bounces back and forth between two guys all season 😆 Jokes aside, liked the show more than I thought I would....I wish they could balance and flesh out Ginny in much better ways because they were able to do that with Georgia. I quicky found her character and backstory to be my favorite parts of the show.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who disliked Joe. Mights be because of the tv-serie "Maid" where he played the nice guy. He just continued giving me the majour "nice guy" ick
The show is complete trash. It sucks on every level the characters, storyline, development and writing. It's horrendous and it so predictable. It feels like it was written by a bunch of brain dead writers who are just as untelented as the characters in the show.
It really bothered me in the show that Max was upset Ginny didn’t tell her she wasn’t a virgin. Like it’s up to her to tell you and if she doesn’t want to then is none of your business!
i agree, i hope they delve into their friend group dynamic more in the next season!

Not saying that I disagree with you, but Ginny shouldn't have lied to her and broken her trust. But yeah, Max kind of overreacted.
Their like 15-16 too..
I've literally just dropped a video and exposed Netflix for their woke Ginny and Georgia trash. It will probably be taken down soon.

Ngl - the moments when Abbie smacked Ginny’s stupid face and looked right into it at the end of season one and called her a bitch ✨🤍💅😇
It will be really interesting to see what direction this show will go when it returns...
i agree!

Yes I loved that. And yes I agree Max can be very immature and dramatic.

You have a point but it wouldn't make sense in ginny and georgia if georgia was black because of the plot

that's fair! i can't imagine the episodes being any longer than they already are but i wouldn't mind it if it improves a bit
I’m really glad someone brought up these points… everything you said is just 👌
thanks, i appreciate it!
As soon as I heard the stall door open 😂 I KNEW IT WAS BRACIA U had me dead....

Omg the beard totally threw me off, it is Sav!!
Knowing that the actor who plays Ginny irl has a white dad is making it all make sense to me now. I’m glad she isn’t like this irl

I only care for Joe and Georgia, and to see what else ginny pulls😅
I seriously hate Ginny's character
Ginny’s Dad 💕💕💕💕
I’ve watched a lot of these kind of videos for this show and you’re the only person I’ve watched that spoke about Ellen’s husband. Loved you’re video.
i appreciate this comment, thanks!
i hope we see more of him next season ~fingers crossed~
