Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. These highlights have been artisanly-produced, carefully-curated, and chosen completely at random by an old computer that used to pick numbers for the New York Lotto back in the 90’s.
During the savings and loan crisis in the early 90s, he did "Top Ten Signs that Your Bank is Failing." Number three was, "When you deposit cash, a bank officer pockets it and dances around, yelling, 'Lordy, lordy! We're having biscuits tonight!'" For some reason, that one stuck with me so that every time I find myself with a little extra cash, I can't help but quote that line.
You should request that top ten. I'd love to see that one.
That line comes to mind anytime I cash a check or get paid.
This week in 2015 was the saddest week of my life. I really appreciate this RUclips channel!
You've had an easy life. Lol
What does this RUclips channel have to do with the saddest week of your life?
How does it help that sadness that 7 years later, this channel exists?
@@michaelmcdonald8452 It will be 7 years ago on Friday that Dave's last Late Show aired. May 20, 2015. This video came from the 3rd last show. It was sad to see Dave go, but thanks to this youtube channel, we can still watch clips from the show.
@@WEPDRabbitEarsTV If you had to watch TV with rabbit ears, I guess I did. 🤦♂️
You should grab the book Last Days of Letterman, it’s an oral history of that week!
R.I.P. Alan Kalter 😪
Damn. I missed this. I had no idea. He was hilarious!
@trafficcone same this hurt me a little 😢 always loved his celebrity interview bit they had on the show 🥹🥺
"It's me, Dave!" kills me every time!
Paul Shaffer doing a little Jack Benny to top off his delivery. Classic.
Miss you so much Dave. Late night is real bad these days. You were and still are the master
It's unwatchable nowadays
I feel lucky to have had Johnny as a kid then letterman and jay soon after.
Late Night TV was never the same without David.
Yeah, his successor, Larry Letterman, was terrible.
America was never the same. After Dave left, there was trump.
If Carson was the King, then Dave was the Crown Prince. Conan was good too.
He was the last true host. He wasn't involved in every joke
Yes I totally agree he's the best
Damn I miss seeing this show every weeknight
Me to
@@juliemcarthur3004 I’m not really a fan of any late shows, now. Bummer
I'm still use, "Hey there kids" all the time. I think all of us who truly love(d) Dave use something he left behind in our daily lives?! Thank you Mr. Letterman👏...
You gotta say hey to the kids, you know?
I use "Hang on to your wigs and keys" every now and then...
I think they only used it like two times, but to this day I'll use the "Oh no! We're gonna get sued!" ditty
@@TheGreatAtario Thanks for your post
If you don't use "They pelted us with rocks and garbage!" you are not a fan of Letterman.
Damn, that was my childhood and teenage years, flashing before my eyes. Miss them all.
It is subtle, but at at 2:35 there are clear signs that Barbara is channeling the spirit of Johnny Carson.
It's true, Biff is completely unrecognizable without the headset
"We'll be right back with Tom Hanks everybody!" isnt that just all you need for a bit of tv at the end of a day
KNOW KNOW KNOW KNOW, KNOW KNOW KNOW KNOW KNOW KNOW YOUR CUTS OF MEAT
Variety Meats!
Totally agree with Mibeatleman- A unique spot in TV, US/American and entertainment history. He helmed the greatest team. Thanks DL and all!
Some real legends up there
Wld be great if we can have the air dates for every clip on here, that wld rlly help remind us that David got even older than he already was
All air dates are provided in the descriptions. This particular one must have fallen through the cracks. May 18, 2015.
Fixed!
@@user2144 Thanks Don. You keep us going.
Friday marks seven years since the last show.
Somehow seems so much longer than that......
Be back with “you bending the shafts, hey, you bending the shafts” Tom Hanks! Something satisfying saying that again.
I didn't know Alan died. 😔 How is everyone else? Are they all still with us?
I don't know about the people shown here, but Tony Mendez and Kenny died.
@@bobbyk9815 Tony Mendez was the card guy right? I think I mixed up which one was Pat and which one was Kenny. I thought Kenny was the tall one. Oh man, that's so sad. I watched the show almost every night. 😢🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@antoinettelopes Yeah Tony was the card guy, and Kenny Sheehan was the one with the mustache who frequently had a cigarette in his mouth. There's a guy on RUclips named Don Giller who has great tribute compilations for both of them. Highly recommended.
@@bobbyk9815 Cool. I'll check those out. 🙂
@@bobbyk9815 what…? That is so sad..Kenny, not a surprise..but Tony..? Such a great crew. And every time they spoke and appeared on air, I hope that they got an extra pay check from SAG’
Dave was The Best!
he left. late shows died.
thanks for the memories
I miss Late Night TV when it was funny and not waving its finger at the audience. The Letterman/Conan combo was great, when Conan was in New York with his New York writers.
I just noticed Pat Farmer seems to mouth everyone's lines as he's standing in line behind them here. Haha.
TV as a medium started to die after Dave left. Not just because it was peak comedy, but because it had the best writers and staff of any show before or since.
Craig Ferguson was every bit as good.
Colbert is doing very well.
@charlesharper2357 Colbert is not that funny & a complete kiss a**. Couldn't get through that Prince Harry interview. Made me nauseous 🤢
Everything started to die after 2015, to be honest.
Biff is the best
Rupert from the hello deli should’ve been there.
I think that’s what it was called. I haven’t seen show in over a decade 😢
love dave miss them
I'm old enough to remember when Paul had hair
I remember how David finished his last show, he introduced the musical guest, and when they were playing the show ended, No sad goodbye. Just left quietly.
Late night at its peak
Miss him
Love Letterman
2015 - it's already been that long?
Loved Biff
That was great, he needs to come back.
Favorite bits:
- How many Santa's/Easter Bunnies/Elves can you fit in a Starbucks/ Dunkin Donuts/ etc.
- Can a man in a bear suit hail a cab/get into a strip club/operate an elevator, etc.
Why did Dave pass over one guy in the handshake lineup?
the only one he missed is Paul who had already gone back to the band
How Stephanie Birkitt these days, Dave?
11. Not being harassed.
I still think one of them should have answered, "nothing"
Letterman was the last late night host that was worth a damn.
Did Dave avoid a handshake with the tall man at position four or five?
He spoke to him, he said pat
no, he shook his hand and acknowledged him by name
The current late night shows are terrible. I miss Dave Letterman and Craig Ferguson
I would add Conan to the list. Completely agree. Thought I was the only one. 👍
Family
I liked Letterman when he had his first show, but he began to wear on me in his latter years. Never let guests talk; it was just a litany of puns.
All about money!
It was time to go…show was so stale when Dave moved to CBS….granted, there are some great moments and Top 10 lists…but as a farewell from the staff, this wasn’t the funniest way to go out…
Dave was a bit juvenile for my tastes.
I hope Biff is enjoying retirement.
#1 being promoted bc I slept with Dave but then my boyfriend extorted him
Biff was so small
Oh, is the Letterman show not on anymore?😮
Well, that was boring without being interesting at all
Get your ass back on tv Dave! You were such a fixture and the only show that was enjoyable and worth watching at night! This Colbert is beyond horrible. The Jimmys, meh. Falon is "ok" but nope. You are a legend.
Not very funny skit!
Kind of weak
They're not trained comedians/entertainers. This was more of a tribute to the wonderful people behind the scenes
