  • In the summer of 2014 I decided to fly my airplane to the Idaho backcountry. I was a newly minted private pilot with less than 100 hours total time. This is the story.

I realize that this was put out several years ago, but the message is timeless, and the content beautiful. I'm 63 and starting my build on a Rans Outbound. I cant wait to do this trip. Thanks for sharing this important time in your life as a pilot and a person.

At 67 years old, I am finally finding the time to get my fixed wing add-on to my Private Pilot Certificate (I've been rated in Helicopters since '85) and I'm looking forward to many solo travels, especially through Idaho. Your video has been most inspirational. Thanks for the confidence booster.

I enjoyed your adventure back country flying. It was the final moments of the film all the sorrow came back. You see Tyler sounded like a good friend to be around but Tommy Weiss was our Civil Air Patrol's Commander Major Greg Weiss. Tommy was one of 2 son's that Greg taught how to fly his Cessna 170B . Greg died of a heart seizure before Tommy's death. Tommy was a Captain in the Corvalis Oregon fire dept paramedic. When I joined the CAP Greg was very knowledgeable funny and outspoken. I did not know his son's personally but Greg was so proud of their accomplisments. I myself had a Mooney 231 Ilike the speed and the positive control of torque tubes. Take care and be well.

You went to the places that most of us flat landers dream of flying to. I will watch this video many times over. Thanks for the ride. I may have to point my 170's nose NW one of these days. Man what a trip you made! Safe Travels always.

I wanted to tell you how much I so appreciate you sharing this video. I am humbled to watch your great adventure that I hope to do someday. Money always seems to be an issue for me and with my hearing impairment I almost gave up on it. Then Ultralight kit planes came to existence. So...maybe I too can fly my dreams as you did yours. I love the music you have selected. Lucky for me I live in Oregon so a Idaho trip will be a short one for me.

I owe my direction of life now due to the inspirational videos chosstronaut had posted to RUclips his video what do you desire moved my lufe back on track. I bought a savannah vg flew it 980nm home for my first real cross country experience and now have done more flying in the past 6 months than I had in the previous 10 years.
This video is the single best thing I have seen come out of RUclips since chosstronaut posts everything rings true, the thoughts of turning around, being scared being only your desisions but without being outside that comfort zone we would not have a life to document and possibly change someone else's. thank you great job keep it up and from Australia fly safe.

Cheers brother! I know it's been a while since you posted this but this video brought a tear to my eye. I grew up in Bozeman and my dad would always go to different fly ins and small airports around Montana . I attribute that to my interest in aviation and longing to fly in the backcountry. Sadly I moved away to New Jersey when I was 13. I now have 38 hours of flying in New Jersey and am hoping once I get my license and finish high school I could fly a trip like this back out west. I think the west holds such a special place in our hearts. Thanks for posting such a well done video! Hope to see you out there one day!
