  • In this video I'll demonstrate how to replace spark plugs and ignition wires on a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country 3.8L. This is a relatively simple task and should not be too difficult to do. In the video you'll notice that I do not show removal and replacement of all spark plugs and ignition wires. I only change two spark plugs, one in the front cylinder head and one in the rear cylinder head. I also, only show the installation of one ignition wire. The other ignition wires are installed in a similar manner and should be routed similarly. As mentioned at the beginning of the video the ignition coil is numbered on the top of each tower or electrode. Rout each ignition wire according to the number shown on each coil tower. For example, if one end of the ignition wire is connected to the coil tower numbered 3 then the other end of the wire would connect to the spark plug on the number 3 cylinder. The other wires are installed and routed similarly. Of course there will be different length of ignition wires provided. Longer wires go the the cylinders closest to the accessory drive followed by the wires of medium length and then the shortest length as you get closer to the transaxle.
Warning!! Let the vehicle cool completely before attempting this. Let the vehicle sit for several hours, not running, before attempting this. Even then use caution as the exhaust and engine could still be hot.... Don't burn yourself.

For some reason, my mechanic is too scared to try and take these out of my van. He says they're rusted. He said I should try and find someone who would dare take them out. Well, I dare...so thanks for the knowledge. I'm trying it tomorrow.

Thanks for the video; I usually am leery about doing tune ups on some of those front drive minivans, but this seems relatively simple. Also, to echo what the other guy said, genius idea on the spark plug boot for installing new plugs. Having read my share of auto repair manuals, they said rubber hoses work, but who has them laying around? You gave me the confidence to give this a shot.

Great video. I'm always leery about starting spark plugs with a socket. Using an old wire boot is GENIUS. Thanks for the tip!

Thank You. I just recently purchased a T&C with the 3.8l and just wanted the basics to make sure it was a job that wasn't insane. I had a 1992 voyager that the back plugs were a royal pain. This is actually much easier than my Subaru that I did a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the video! I purchased a coil pack also. I noticed you did not replace yours. Our van was bought used with 170+miles on it and since it feels like its slipping on occasion, I was told I should do a tune up (although I am curious if this is a speed relay because ABS and traction lights come on). Do you recommend changing the pack too? Also, you mentioned a torque wrench - I don't have one of those. Is this a necessity? I usually watch a RUclips video before my DIY but suppose I should get a maintenance manual since I don't know what the manufacturer recommends 😬. Thanks again for your video and help!

I have a 2008 and i bought a new coil. Instead saying 1,3,5 it say 5,1,3. What should I do? Still follow 1,3,5 or 5,1,3? Thanks a million..

Thanks for the instruction! Easy to understand.
    Worked like a charm! THANKS!
Just be advised: on my 2009 Town and Country Anniversary Edition 3.8L the odd numbers on the coil head go 1, 5, 3 from left to right. Take care to place the wires on the correct cylinders numbers
