Loving the love in the lineup and encouraging others, then saw all the speedbumps when trying to catch a wave to the point where waves were being unridden, then thought well in how many sports can you participate with champions? It's not as though you can take your beater of a car and enter a F1 race, so as busy as it was, too cool to see.
Q, out of a huge crowd like that, how many people are actually catching waves? It always looks like a bunch are just out there paddling around hanging out. It just seems like the majority of them don’t get any waves at all.

@@wallymcguire2033 You are absolutely right. I feel like a lot of times there are people out there just wading in the lineup taking up space with no intention of going for it. All they are doing is making it more difficult for guys like Nate to navigate the sea of humanity out there. For what? Lol. To say you paddled out at Pipe and sat on your board just to ride a closeout back in.
@@NJ187 I’m sure the view is great but there seems to be a lot of guys out there that are just taking up space. It’s a free world and they can do what they want but it seems like only about 20% are actually going for it.
@@NJ187 bro I haven’t surfed pipe but at (insert secret surf spot) during heavy swells people will paddle out just to sit in the line up.
Makes it very confusing when it’s you and them and they paddle just a bit and don’t get any waves. It’s a shame really.

Go Pro always makes waves appear smaller than they actually are. But the fact that his Go Pro footage looks heavy means it must have been mega nuts that day. That pipeline wave looks like a beast and that crowd gives me anxiety! Great footage, love the raw POV keep it up!

Ive snorkled pipeline and cannot elaborate how absolutely spooky the reef is. To have that much water moving through the rocks. Don't think coral reef think limestone slab with caves and holes

I dont surf but love watching these vids! Question? With so many people out there trying to surf the same area, is there an etiquette as to who has right of way or is it just whoever has the best angle?? Seems like it could be very hectic. Always wondered that!
Hell, I’m scared and I’m sitting in the den in LBC watching from my iPad. I was also thinking how when i was a kid I thought when i got older, being a goofy foot I’d own Pipe. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve surfed all my life and (save for the last three years too busy taking care of my disabled mom and other excuses that make no sense. Hit by a car in 1998 iding my bike to the beach, nearly lost my left leg ) and never even been to Hawai’i. Now here i am scared 4:09 into a vid (The closest ill ever get to PIPE). Looks fun out. Thank You.

Intending to learn to surf later this year. The vid on paddling exercises brought me to your channel, hopped/skipped to this video which I appreciate (analyze paddling amount and speed when going for a wave, duck-dives to get under, socializing out in the crowd) but, and totally newbie question... what's with all the helmets being worn?
Pipeline is a really shallow wave. Sometimes it breaks in 3ft of water above a sharp reef. So the guys wear helmets to protect themselves from head damage- similar to a skater.
