  • Today we'll dig into a passage in Luke 9 to ask the question, "Should all Believers be Minimalists?” We make a compelling case! But we also know that opinions and interpretations vary, so we love you and we're glad to be on this journey together!

In simpler days in my island when persons feared God, people had less, they shared more and they were loving and happy. As we gain more we have become less interested in God, we hardly share and are very stressed out. As I decluttered with Dawn I have found more time for people, more time to relax and more time to pray

One of my favorite passages on being content is Proverbs 30:8-9 - Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

Traveling light on the journey of life also frees up finances to serve God and others more fully as well. When I'm not filling my home with more purchases for me... my 50th shirt, another toy for my kid, another set of dishes for my already full cupboard.... I'm now free to give a shirt, a toy, dishes, or food to someone who actually needs them; or fund a missionary, a cause, etc. Advancing the Kingdom simply must be #1 in a believers life, and that simply doesn't happen when holding on to "our" stuff.

DAWN when you said giving the stuff as an offering you made me cry. I've been struggling with stuff that I have that I have literally spent hundreds of dollars on....that could be utilized by someone else (cloth diapers). I needed to hear this.

I have been challenged by this for the last decade or so. When I was a struggling student, it was far easier to not buy stuff. 😉. Now that I have resources, I do not deprive myself, but I am constantly asking myself what do I need. Answer: I don’t. So now I can work on meeting other’s needs.

I started purging a little years ago and I was having a hard time. I heard I’m my spirit “ do you trust me” 3x I said yes Lord. ThenI heard
I will provide when you have need 😳
I am still purging and doing really well with it. People give me things all the time and most goes directly to donation.

I love the Bible verses you guys used to light up our load but it’s important to understand what season in our lives we are in, and it’s different for everyone. In that particular time Jesus told them not to take anything for there Journeys but then on Luke 22:35-37 he reminded them of that time and also told them to take their money And sell his cloak and buy a sword. I believe that the message here between these 2 verses is seasons change and there is a time not to have to much and there is a time to have a little more. And only Holy Spirit can tell us what season we are in our lives.

We have long-time friends who live an hour's drive away and we love to get together monthly for dinner and a nice visit with each other. The best way we make it happen is to schedule it on our calendar as we would any important meeting. We've managed to do this for several years and will continue to do it since we enjoy each other's company.

the thought of giving your stuff to God as an offering was an aha moment. I haven't been a good steward of my finances and just possessions in general. This would be a good reset for me to release the mental overload of everything. I would also expand this to the time I spend on technology, on social media, or playing games, etc... There is so much more I could do with my time.

I am finding in this season of life lately, that without the kids here anymore, our goals and future dreams have changed. Now, especially after finding Dawn, that minimizing our posessions is our new goal moving forward because simplifying our lives seems like the perfect lifestyle for empty nesters...to make room for the things that are important. 🥰❤ Thank you ladies for making a difference in your viewers lives! Love this!! I think minimalism IS in the Bible. I always wondered how Jesus was able to travel to so many different places, and often times I think is because He only had what He needed with Him. I read 1 Samuel 17:36-54 a whileback... I started reading from about v 24, ( in the GNT translation), and I was like "oh wow, minimalism is in the Bible? :) Saul wanted to give David his armor to fight Goliath, but David felt like it was too much for him, so David told Saul that he couldn't fight Goliath with all of that v(38-40). David was able to fight AND kill Goliath with what he thought was necessary and he did! David took only his 5 smooth stones, a shepherd's stick and a sling. So with a sling and a stone David defeated the giant!(v 50). I love it when I find practical ways to live a simpler life straight from the Bible! Great job ladies!!🙂

I know this doesn’t apply to y’all but I do think it can be important for us to think about the risk of minimalism becoming more of a focus than God or loving those around us. Lovely discussion. You do wonder how God can work through any of us if we're harried, hurried, cluttered, and overwhelmed. We can't follow Jesus if we're busy following the chaos of the modern world! Thinking of the age of the Bible texts, anyone reading this comment may be as fascinated by the book title as I am with the book. It's a mix of anthropology, economics, religion, sociology, and history. The book is called Debt: The First 5,000 years. It's really a worldview change of the myths we put on ancient people and puts the ministry of Jesus in a new, more accurate context without directly spending time on Him.

But wait, what about Luke 22:35-38? Here the order is reversed and they are told to take supplies...
Not all are apostles and have the authority that was given to them. There were a lot of people following Christ that weren’t given this authority. The apostles were sent out with the authority of Christ but we are “ambassadors of Christ” His representatives to win others to Him and the authority is the word of God.
I do agree with you ladies that the more minimalist approach is great and helps us to not love “things” and more easily place our treasure in heaven as we live for the Lord!! Thanks for your video and heart for the Lord! 💕

It's not bad to have things and money. It makes it harder though to not have these become your god instead of the real God, so a person has to always be diligently keeping this in mind and not becoming prideful if they have lots of money and things and also spending it the way God wants them to. Whereas if a person is poor they don't have this problem.
