I have the Oliver already. Now I want the Jr. too.. I like parlor guitars. They tend to be a bit brighter, boxy, or have a tin like sound that goes good with a blues or blue grass. Also, they feel more akin to an electric. Which I find is more comfortable to play. That being said I really like the Oliver too.
Orangewood guitars have definitely taken to my liking because of the potential I have seen and heard of them! But alas both sounded incredible! Thank you for the showcase and doing justice to these guitars as always
Faith Reyna The Orangewood is easier to play. The Taylor sounds fuller / louder (when playing with a pick.) The Oliver Jr is definitely worth the money. I absolutely love mine. If they drop a new wood style, I would probably purchase a 2nd Oliver Jr.
How long have you had your Jr? I want the Taylor I just worry about the durability of smaller guitars and it’s twice as much as this guitar but everyone has told me to go with the Taylor but I worry about price and longevity.
Faith Reyna I got my Oliver Jr the end of Nov. 2019. So, 3 full months with it. Never had it in the case. Hangs on my wall with all my other instruments. Play it everyday. I’m not rough on my guitars. And at less than half the price of the Taylor, it’s worth it. Both my GS mini and Oliver Jr are without a pick-up. If I had to choose one, I don’t think I could. I love them both. I also own a Martin D jr that’s awesome as well. But they are all different.
Faith Reyna Also, the Taylor is, well... a Taylor. You can tell there is a quality difference between the two guitars. The Taylor is worth the money, hands down. The quality matches the price. But the only thing “cheap” about the Orangewood is the price. Is the quality the same as the GS mini? No. Did I worry that the Oliver Jr was going to feel and sound cheap? Yes. But it’s not. It’s a $200 guitar that plays, looks, feels, and sounds like it’s worth more than $200. I have no regrets. Like I said, I’ll buy a 2nd Oliver Jr if they drop a new wood scheme option. Maybe a koa?
They are different and the JR. is more precise and 'immediate' ... the regular Oliver has a longer sustain and deeper bass. For cheap... get the one you'll play more and forget the other one.
I have a Cort guitar that cost $90. It is the guitar that i bring with me all the time because it is my cheapest guitar. When people ask me how much it cost, they often say it is expensive. Most people don't realise that most guitars are way more expensive. One thing for sure, nobody has ever said my guitar sounded cheap.
Just got my Orangewood Oliver. Sounds great and I'm loving it so far. Also, came with a kit bag, electronic tuner, chord chart, strap and set of picks.
Well, Santa left me an Oliver under the tree. My wife tells me Santa was able to take advantage of the Black Friday sale, when the guitar was $152! The only instruments in my collection I've paid less than that for are ukuleles. I owned a Taylor 12-fret 522 (grand concert) which I sold because the odd placement of the neck hurt my wrist. It was solid mahogany top, ovangol back and sides. Those sell for $2800 new. I won't say the $199 Oliver sounds just as good as that guitar did. I will say that I am just as pleased with the sound, looks, playability, fit, and finish of the Oliver as I was with the Taylor 522. And it comes with a gig bag that I imagine my local music stores would sell for $80 or more. The Oliver plays great. The neck is very comfortable and the actuon is nice and low. And, as an extra bonus, it sounds great with D'Addario strings. No need to shell out for Elixirs to get the right sound. Of course, when I record and play out, I will still use my 2003 Taylor 314ce. It's still a superior playing and sounding guitar. But for just kicking around, jamming, composing, etc., the Oliver is great. And I don't have to feel nervous letting someone else play it. Only slight imperfection: the nut had to be lubricated. Otherwise, the setup was perfect, even after being shipped across the US. This guitar is really well reviewed on RUclips. I can now personally see why. Thanks, Darrell, for another great video.
Nice demo, Darrell. Frankly, size and weight are always an issue with me, and in both acoustic and electric instruments, I'll take the smaller one almost every time. I agree that the full-sized Oliver has deeper, richer tone, but the Jr. sounds good, too, and I'd choose that one because it's less bulky to hold and play. Certainly easier to deal with than my Ovations.
Thanks Darrell. You always do such helpful comparisons ~ apples to apples (e.g., playing the same ting on both guitars). Really helps me make good decisions.
My goodness, those are some pretty guitars. The Jr sounds pretty good for a small guitar but, like all small guitars, it sounds boxy and... well... small. The full-size Oliver sounds quite good and I'd like to hear the difference between it and the dreadnought version, if it exists. I must say... if all their guitars sound as good and play as well as the ones you've received, they are an amazing deal.

Orangewood has blown me away for how much guitar you get for so little money. I'm on a parlor guitar kick and I also really like the Taylor GS Mini, so my vote is for the Jr. Merry Christmas 🎄🎸😎
Holding Tune ... Hmmm ... Bought an Orangewood Dana Mahogany about a year ago (for a travel guitar) and that's the one thing it cannot do with the stock tuning machines. It looks great. It's loud and sounds wonderful. It plays great. It doesn't hold tune. The tuning machine posts are looser than the red light district. Been looking for a decent set of tuners for what is really a very nice guitar. For those of you who may own an Orangewood - what's your experience with the stability of the tuning machines?
I bought the Oliver some time ago. Came time to change strings. I like the strings that came on it so I researched to get the same ones. After installing the new strings I noticed the intonation was off on the A string. Honestly I don’t know if it was off before changing strings. I have been playing guitars for nearly 60 years and got so could setup and repair my guitars myself better than any music store professionals in my area. However, I have done everything I know to do and cannot get the A string intonation set. Can you give me some ideas? Thanks! I love your channel! Bob
Thank you Darrell for your insightful and beautiful demo of the Oliver Jr. I am 70 years old and have been looking for the right acoustic guitar for a beginner with small hands like me. Bought the Oliver Jr. based on your review and so far I say you are right on for someone starting out learning guitar. I have looked at a lot of guitars in this price range and found Orangewood does give great quality for the bucks. Thanks again.
Nice video! I liked the Orangewood OLIVER. I was wondering if have ever tried the Ilicht BPNCS. The BPNCS is a low impedance air coil built in a replacement backplate. It removes the hum while preserving the true single coil pickup tone.
Dollars to donuts, players will choose the full-size guitar for tonal quality. I played a Grand Aud. for years and then hurt my wrist and shoulder and now have to turn to a smaller guitar. I also have smaller hands so the Oliver Jr. would be ideal for me. Maybe this is only a fair question if you consider the criteria for wanting to own either of them? I PREFER the tonal quality of a full-size, but my limitations are guiding me toward the smaller guitar. Thanks for the presentation, by the way.
Hi Darrell, thanks a lot for your wonderful videos. Could you please tell me what's the lower bout width (in inches) of the Oliver Jr.? And how is the pickup? What battery they use for it? Thank you so much in advance.

Would you check out an Aria fet-f1? It's a flat-top acoustic with double f-holes. Thought it might be something you'd be interested in taking a look at
When will they start to sell them in Canada? I have a Yamaha SLG-200S and I love it, it was my first 'acoustic' and I'll keep it forever, but I want one that I don't need to plug in.
How do these two guitars differ from the Orangewood Dana mini? Better quality, easier to play, better tone???? I am a beginner looking to buy a new guitar and though I love the Taylor GS Mini, I just cannot afford to spend that kind of money right now. All suggestions/advice are appreciated.
it's hard to tell with the mic so close. I love the look and feel of Mahogany but it generally doesn't project as well a solid spruce top.. If you're interested in playing bluegrass, I'd go with a different tonewood.
Would you say the Taylor GS mini is for children? I think you're selling the Oliver Jr short. The shorter scale translates into easier stretches. The full-sized' Oliver has the long scale of a Fender electric.
I know this is an older video, and you probably won't reply, but could you or someone else teach me how to play the finger picking song you played? I got the picking pattern down but I cant see what you are fretting
Do you know if they have any plans to make a classical or a nylon string guitar? Just looked their website. Looks like I'm adding another guitar or two to my wishlist. If you ever review any classical guitars you may want to look at Kremona Valley.
you should check out bacchus guitar. its japan made, they make guitar from affordable range to expensive one. i own one of the affordable strat line and its awesome.
You mentioned that the Jr. you would recommend for a child. I am 24 and want to learn to play guitar but I have rather small hands and find it difficult to get my fingers to stretch on my old guitar. Would you recommend the smaller guitar for someone with small hands or just go with a full size?
The jr is easier to play finger strength wise since the scale length is shorter so less tension on strings, Although the regular Oliver is comfortable to hold but the biggest I’d like to go since I like playing in bed watching tv and I’m 5’11 tall if that helps. I’d go with jr just because it even easier to hold and play
Dang - no contest for me the - the full size tone is so much better and the price is just crazy for what looks like a quality instrument. My only complaint is that the price is so low it really pushes me away from attempting to build my own since I don't think I could even get the parts for less than 200.... lol
Thanks for the review! I lean toward that brand late, even more, when I see this kind of reviews, but I wonder, what is your opinion when comparing the tone in this kind of product, mahogany wood guitar vs silka or sepele woods?
So what's the deal with Orangewood. The junior live by the time it gets to my door is 540 bucks canadian. I know this video is few years old but have they gone up that much? Also last few comments suggest they are not that great. And one comments said they received a sub par guitar and Orangewood said it is normal. Should I be looking elsewhere for a travel size affordable guitar?
I think it’s because of you being in Canada maybe? I would use that $500 budget at a local store and see if you find something you like, it’s always nice to actually feel, see, and hear a guitar before buying too
I hear u say these two guitar action is very good and very easy playability. The question I have for u is “ which guitar u think has the best action and easiest playability? Thank u !!!
I loved my Orangewood Oliver. Sadly, it was stolen in early April and I am trying to find a replacement. Anyone know where I can find one? Used would be okay if it's in great shape.
One of the best parts about these guitars is how cheap they are. IMO your best bet is to save up for a bit and get yourself a brand new one. I'm sorry about your original Oliver though, hopefully she makes its way back to you :(
nice ones but you should check QQX guitars ive got one for me tho hard to find em these days since theya re not gettin exported out of china and a real quality instrument cheers nice vids
Jim, i you want a good(in my opinion better) affordable guitar then an orangewood that's available in ontario look into Cort, I own 2 and bought 2 more as christmas gifts or family and I've played guitar for over 25years. All I play are my Corts the rest of my guitars just hang on the wall these days. one is a smaller mahogany ,concert body folk guitar and one is a spruce top dreadnought.

Do you favour the portability of a smaller size guitar or do you prefer a full size?
Full size no doubt

My only complaint is that the price is so low it really pushes me away from attempting to build my own since I don't think I could even get the parts for less than 200.... lol
I liked the full size Oliver much better.
One question, unless I missed it:
What are the scale lengths?
I’m fairly sure that the scale lengths are listed on the Orangewood website :)
I would use that $500 budget at a local store and see if you find something you like, it’s always nice to actually feel, see, and hear a guitar before buying too
Excellent demo Darrell! Your video's have cost me so much money. 😉
I think the Ava Mahogany sounds very nice.
Don't ship to Canada... Or Do They?
Is the Little Martin like the Oliver Jr.? Like Ed Sheeran?
I have an Ibanez that feels like the strings are 6 inches off the bridge.
Been collecting dust for years.
Did someone play the "live" models? How's the amplified sound?
Wow they both sounded so nice I’d probably want the bigger one a little nicer voice
Can you please review the fender Squier SA-150 acoustic guitar
I hear u say these two guitar action is very good and very easy playability. The question I have for u is “ which guitar u think has the best action and easiest playability? Thank u !!!
I loved my Orangewood Oliver. Sadly, it was stolen in early April and I am trying to find a replacement. Anyone know where I can find one? Used would be okay if it's in great shape.
One of the best parts about these guitars is how cheap they are. IMO your best bet is to save up for a bit and get yourself a brand new one. I'm sorry about your original Oliver though, hopefully she makes its way back to you :(
Thank you for this video, just purchased one. Need a hobby to keep my sanity with all the stuff that's going on.
What was the scale length and nut width?
hey !
whats the name of the 1st song you played (kind of the intro of the video :) ?
Would love the tab to the opening...
Hi Darrell. Could you do a review of an ibanez s1027pbf
It's a shame I can't get one in the UK.... I'd be all over Orangewood.... Great video as always.
Check out amazon!
@@TW-rn1vn That's the first place I looked bud. Nothing in the UK sadly....Unless you have a link?
@@richardsandson not as many options, but us guitarist need to help each other out! 😉
Have you gotten to try the Ava at all? Been interested in hearing more about that model.
You should do a video on the Esteban guitar and how to make it better!
nice ones but you should check QQX guitars ive got one for me tho hard to find em these days since theya re not gettin exported out of china and a real quality instrument cheers nice vids
Sorry to say mine sounds like a Ukulele when strummed and has a dead sound on the second string when picked.
Anyone know what song he played at the start?
So how can I get my hands on them. I’m in Ontario.
Jim Bain order it at Orangewood Guitars website!
Thien Di Pham their website says they don’t ship internationally. That’s why I am asking.
Hi do either of the guitars plug in to an amp?
Nope
Are all those guitars on your background for sale?.... or just your personal guitars?
