No matter what you guys decide to do with the name, you will always have a loyal fanbase. On the bright side, if you choose to change now, before Eurovision, you'll at least have a good chance at advertising the band under your new name through Eurovision.
@@lookatthesparks That's definitely part of the name change. 1) They might be criticized at Eurovision for their current name 2) Eurovision offers them the chance to market their new name.
Lamb of God used to be called Burn the Priest, but venues gave them a hard time about putting that name on their billboards so they changed their name. Same great music, different name. Doesn't bother me one bit if your name changes as long as the music is good. Keep on pumping out the jams!
People change their names all the time for all kinds of reasons, but what makes them who they are stays the same. Call yourselves what you want, just keep writing massive tunes in your style and we'll always know it's you guys.
I read "Escalation Callboy" and liked it at once. Pretty fitting as well. I can understand why you're doing this and I highly respect this decision. It shows that you guys are reflected enough to see: Ok, now that we are international more famous we are getting confronted with bad co notations of our name we never intended. This is something we never learned in school. Is is literally often written in books. At least in the 90's. Btw. Car Company's do have this trouble always. The new car name is offending in other parts of the world. So they get a new name in that region or even worldwide.
We do not love you for your band’s name, we love you for the great personality your band and your music have. Make the change now that you are having massive growth and you have the opportunity to grow with a new name, we will continue supporting your music and the world will see this great attitude, reflecting it on your numbers. Win win.
Some people may never get it. They’ll say you’re censoring yourself or giving in to cancel culture and being “soft”. Truth is, most people grow in life and realize some of the things they’ve said in the past that used to be acceptable actually weren’t, and they learn from it and make a change. I’m definitely guilty of using some pretty derogatory language when I was younger. But you learn, you grow, and make the appropriate change. You guys are doing what you feel is appropriate, and nobody else should be able to tell you otherwise. As for the term “Eskimo”, from an American perspective, that’s the term we’ve heard since we were kids. I never once thought you guys were being derogatory when I first discovered you. It wasn’t until the last decade or so that the term started getting talked about in the mainstream, even though from what I understand, groups of Inuit peoples have had an issue with it for a while. All that to say that it‘s somewhat of a new topic for a lot of Americans as well. Same thing that happened with the term Indian years ago, even tough a ton of people still use it instead of “Native American”. Bottom line, you guys do what you feel is best for your career, your personal growth, and yourselves, and I’ll still be here to support you along the way. 🤘 Also, glad to hear Nico handled Nicovid-19 well. 💪
Tank, exactly the kind of thoughtful, nuanced and compassionate response that makes me proud to be a fan of your work too. Thanks for all you bring to the EC family, hope to meet you in a mosh pit some day when things are safe again!
So lebt meine zweitliebste Band in meiner Lieblingsband weiter.
Listen, I'm European so I have no say if "Eskimo" is a derogatory term or not. But if the name is creating all these problems for you and you think you'll be better off changing it, then go for it.
I fully understand your reasoning, and I love the fact that you seem to have reached out in order to learn and to understand the problem. Whatever you decide to do, never stop using your native language in these RUclips videos. It gives you a loveable authenticity and allows you to speak more freely than if you were using English or any other language. Those of us who understand little or no German are beautifully helped by subtitles. (Ps: add another show in Antwerpen. I couldn't get tickets.)
Love you guys for adding clarity and context for those who clearly needed it. I'll still support you guys and I think you're doing the best thing for everyone involved. Can't wait to see the new name and hear all the great new music!
@@oldschoolgamer-w4u You should not forget, that they make music as their job and people change with the years. They may think about that because they want to reach more people and media (especially the ESC), but it is ok that way, because it is their own decision! They may change to be more popular and successful, but after years of hard work, they totally deserve it! For me it is ok, because they only change the name and may remove songs, but they do not change at all, they only reflect about themselves, about acceptance, etc.
@@oldschoolgamer-w4u this is such a reactionary hot take. It's wild man calm down, slow down and think about it. They made the name over a decade ago without the context of what the word meant. We as fans always knew their intentions were pure but now they are more aware of the context internationally so they are considering a change. That is literally all that is. You're take is as if people got upset they called someone dumb, no the word is literally an offensive word to a group of people. I mean you can choose to continue to want to deliberately offend people, that is certainly a choice someone can make, but people don't particular like dealing with that.
@@tommyv13 What context? That Eskimo is a Cree word? That most Eskimos accept the word? That Eskimo is an umbrella term for the Inuit, Yupik and Inupiat tribes? Noone, not even the people of the Inuit tribe who say they prefer Inuit over the word Eskimo (and thats not all of them) call the word racist. Only white people with a saviour complex do. Cause the white man knows whats racist and whats best for minorities...
@@oldschoolgamer-w4u This is a weird argument. It always stops somewhere. You would give a kid skittles, but not cocaine, just because you gave them skittles.
This was a great answear to the critisism you guys and your label got. Usually not a fan of what is basically cancel-culture, but for artists to be able to play gigs, meet fans and so on it can be understandable to make changes sometimes. Just keep bringing good, fun music, smiles and laughter and we will keep on listening and having fun with you! And remember take care of that awesome voice after having the damn bug! Much love from Sweden!❤️
I'm from the EU as well bois, "eskimo" was literally written in my primary school books right next to innu people's visualization. You did nothing wrong. Even if name was supposed to sound edgy at first the name's intention wasn't to exclude/offense anyone. Keep up on doing great work bois. Just call yourselves "Callboys" and ez Eurovision win.
Good idea! Or maybe E-Callboys as a nod to their last name and also a little funny connection to e-culture, e-girls, e-boys, e-thots lol, you name it ;)
I am a fairly recent convert to your music, and as you say, it brings people together as most of the styles you intergrate into your sound are not styles I would normally listen to, yet here I am. I think you guys hit the nail on the head when you say Eskimo is not considered an insult in Europe. Hell, I grew up believing that is what they were called rather than Inuit or Yupik, and as far as I can tell, outside of themselves, the only countries it is deemed offensive is Canada and USA as you say. To me, what Canada and USA think does not matter, it is what the Inuit and Yupik people think is what matters. If they find it offensive then it is offensive, that is all that matters. I think the way you guys are handling it is absolutely the right way. Accepting that even though to us Europeans it is not meant as offensive, it may very well be so speaking to people with more knowledge of this rather than "Fred on the internet", is the intelligent way to gain true insight. And as we all know, you guys will make the correct decision whether to keep the name or not. Anyone who shouts "woke" or whatever the latest popular word is, needs to realise that as fans, unless we are affected by the word it is not our place to comment of how derogatory it is or is not. If you have to change your name, so be it, that will not stop us being fans of your music and sense of humour.
Exactly! The thing is, more and more people shout out things that they have no idea and they just heard someone talk about it so they see the need to speak the same exact words all over again without doing the research to back up their story. I never knew that Eskimo was offensive or insulting, that's just the word we've been told way back in the childhood.
I am a new fan, only for a few weeks now. Let me say that I was an instant fan because your music is what I have wanted to hear for most of my life. As soon as I heard Pump It, I knew you guys were the greatest band on the planet. I fully understand the difficult choices you are currently considering. There is one song that I really love but I won’t share it with anyone else because it will likely be offensive to others. I don’t know what the solution for that is, but I will keep listening to it because it is a great song. For the band name…… I live in Canada and reconciliation with the First Nations is, right now, a high priority and is in the news every day. As an example, our provincial museum is closing and removing most of the exhibits to be replaced with exhibits that better fit with reconciliation. I have been enjoying that museum for over 40 years and as of this month it is all gone, never to be seen again. I am also able to see that from Germany (and Europe) that the name is not a big deal. I quite like the name and wish that it didn’t cause people to be upset. Like you, I grew up with the titles of Indian and Eskimo and I never understood them to be offensive in any way. I have come to understand that the First Nations are allowed to promote their identity and protect their culture. If they don’t like those names, we should respect that. Having said that, I will still be a fan no matter what you decide to do with your name or your songs. I have a dumb idea for you to politely ignore. I have no doubt that you could come to Canada and do a tour but at the same time work with our national tv broadcaster and meet with First Nations musicians in a quest to understand the situation and to find a new name. Anyway, thanks for sharing the situation with us. I am excited to hear the new material.
Discovered this band last year. Shocked me how much I enjoyed them and still enjoy them. Good luck for your future, with whatever name you guys decide and please keep us up on this album!
Really respect you guys' decision to be open about the thought process behind the band name. Keep kicking ass -- can't wait to see what you've got in store for 2022!
I will always support you guys, I find it very endearing how mature you guys are dealing with everything. I know you guys meant no harm at all and As a Canadian fan I hope to see you guys perform here! A Similar thing happened to a major sports team in Canada called the Edmonton Eskimos, they had to change their names to the Elks because Canada realized eskimos was actually a derogatory name used to describe the aboriginals living in the northern parts of Canada.
You guys are amazing, whatever decisions you make, we are all behind you, I have a 5 year old daughter that absolutely loves your songs as well as myself, you guys are always so fun, thank you for everything and keep bringing those amazing tracks!!
You guys just have so much energy and talent and you guys take the time to take care of your fans, truly remarkable, thank you for all you do! Much love!
I actually love how reflected you are in your thoughts. I'm really looking forward to see you in my home town in Oberhausen in March. Alles Gute Nico, freue mich sehr Euch da zu sehen!
I haven't written a comment on RUclips in the 14 years I've been using the platform, but this is as good a reason as any to break that streak. First of all, let me apologize on behalf of my fellow Canadians for making you guys feel like you guys are at fault by any means. Anyone with a couple of neurons still firing can see you guys are as far from a mean-spirited group of individuals as a band can be. Maybe we can all look at this potential name change as nothing more than a symbolic start to a new chapter. You'll always be Eskimo Callboy in our hearts, and your phenomenal music speaks for itself. We're behind you 100% no matter what you decide!
Something else we get to blame Canada for. More smug virtue signaling BS to try and whitewash the steady stream of crimes by your own people against the natives. Deaths of native kids at your church schools, meh, long time ago. Deaths by your cops of natives in the infamous Saskatoon Starlight Tours, oh no, those 16 people just uh, teleported out there, half naked and froze to death. This constant PR blitz by your own government that native kids living off laughable stipends are living high on the hog like Saudi Princes.. Oh yeah, sure, $7,500 a year, don't spent it all in one place. ;P But a German Band calling themselves Eskimo Callboy, oh man, big ass moral panic time. Lets get all of Vancouver to stage a die in or some shit. :D
I think that sometimes being 'woke' is going too far. They said they had threatens for their label and that's not okay. For example, all my 30 years living in Poland, in every school I went I was taught that we name these people Eskimo and nobody has ever said that it is something wrong. I mean their band is sooo kind, open-minded, funny and reflective that I would have never thought that something is wrong until I learned that from their post.
@@adamheighton2536 I know a reservation cop (poor relation of some sort) with a jacket that says "I survived Saskatoon Starlight Tours and all I got was this dead cop's jacket!" Native humor is just a TAD fucked up sometimes. :D But in general, most of those dudes, even the more uptight ones on the rez don't give a shit about any of this woke crap.
He Jungs, Fan aus Amiland hier. Also, mach’s gut und viel Spaß beim Nahmenwahl!! Bleibt gesund!! 😁
I think regardless of what you guys do, I myself and many other people will continue to rock the hell out of your music, cause it truly is a much different and magical sound that I am so hooked on and now many of my friends are. Whatever you guys choose to do, your true fans will stick by and support you.
I can see the bind you’re in. I love the band. I’ve heard every song, every remix and have seen every video you put out. You guys are amazing. If you just change your name to something that retains the existing goodwill of the brand, you’ll be fine. If you shorten the brand to simply “Callboy” or something of that sort it could almost go forward with minimal damage to your name recognition. All the best, I can’t wait for the album, boys. Glad you’re doing well with your recovery, Nico.
I personally feel that you should change your name. I fell in love with your music from when I heard Hypa Hypa for the first time. But I must admit - was a bit marked by the band name. Being some one from Denmark and with my relations to the people of Greenland I deeply support the Inuits. I am happy you guys are so open about the thought process and I completely understand where you come from. And also that a name change is a big deal. For you and for the old fans. But you have a new beginning. Hopefully soon the winners of Eurovision (I will vote for you ❤️) and you are gonna skyrocket. I know you will. Every person I show you guys to, other than maybe my mom, has instantly connected with your music just like I did when my friend spammed me with your videos at like 3 in the morning a few months ago.
Honestly, you guys are doing this the right way. You're addressing a problem by educating yourself as to why it's a problem, and you're using the platform you guys have as a means to help educate your fans why the word is a problem. Total respect. As a Canadian, there is a lot of divisive words used in regards to the natives of North America - and like many of my country folk, I was told why words specifically like eskimo were bad when I was very young. I remember wincing the first time I read your name when I first heard 'We Got The Moves', so seeing you guys go about addressing and dealing with this problem the best way possible gets you one more life long fan.
I've been sharing your music with everyone I can, it really does bring people together, regardless of what genres of music they like! I was so excited to see that you were coming to the US, but it would be fantastic if you could come to the Southeast US, because there really aren't any close tour stops for us down here. Keep doing your thing, can't wait for the album!
I came across your band early December 2021, listened to the 3 RUclips-react songs that I suppose became your total hits. Followed that up by watching your beind-the-scenes and in general got a feeling for who you are in the band. That prompted me to listen to a few more of your singles. Not only is your music incredible, despite me not being the biggest fan of electronic music, but you seem like such amazingly fun and nice people to hang about with. No matter what happens with your decision for the future, I have the utmost faith you are making a great choice. Looking forward to the album! Much love from Sweden.
Languages as a whole, and the meaning of specific words, evolve over time. Even some words that can be slightly inappropriate depending on the context can become completely inappropriate some years or decades later. The fact that you are willing to evolve along with these connotations is proof in and of itself that you never meant any harm, and I completely respect you for that. I'm honestly a little late to the party when it comes to discovering your music - I randomly came across a reaction video to Pump It and I was like "whoa, who are these guys?" and I've gone back and checked out all your music since then and become a fan. And I can tell from videos such as this one that you're people who not only truly care about their fan base, but also are willing to adjust in order to make even more people feel welcome. It's very clear that your music is meant to spread joy, and it's then completely understandable that you don't want to leave a bad taste with such things as some of your older songs and perhaps even your current name. The fact that you're even taking it as seriously as this, posting these updates and really looking into it thoroughly, once again shows that you're not out to hurt anyone and want to be as respectful as possible while still maintaining a certain edgy humor. I'm probably what some would call a very liberal person - anti-racism, anti-homophobia, anti-discrimination of any kind - but I can still tell the difference between when something is just a bit of humor and when people are genuinely stereotypical, and everything I've seen so far of your videos and music etc. tells me that you're not trying to be genuinely stereotypical. Also, I'm a musician myself and have had a band in the past where I wrote a lot of lyrics, and I understand the feeling of looking back and no longer thinking that some lyrical choices were the best and could potentially be misunderstood. The fact that you're acknowledging this as well shows that aforementioned adaptability and will to evolve. So for what this guy's opinion is worth, I'll continue to be a fan and support you guys.
Well said! I agree wholeheartedly. They're doing a fantastic job, and I cannot wait to hear more, no matter what they decide to call themselves. (International Callboy?)
@@sarahpike8105 Haha, that's a good suggestion. I feel that the Callboy part can definitely still remain - International Callboy, Neon Callboy, MC Callboy, something like that!
Wow, this one is deep. It is ONLY within Canada that the Inuit take exception to the use of the word Eskimo. The indigenous people of Alaska still call themselves Eskimo and I have not heard different so far. I'm going to put some questions out there for you. One agency you might want to contact for leads on the topic is the Edmonton Elk football team. Last year they changed thier name from Eskimo. They has many conferences with indigenous groups and might have contacts. Best wishes.
i feel like most people wouldn't consider or don't realize eskimo is a "racist slur", i have never thought of eskimo as having any negative connotation, i live in Canada and i didn't know, whatever you decide keep making music and ill keep listening
@Area Man this is clearly more complex than you make it seem. there are plenty of indigenous people who dont have an issue with the term eskimo, there are things like the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative where they use the term themselves.
the fact that you guys bring so mutch happiness in the truest form of chaos and still be so understanding to other peoples feelings is amazing im right next door in the netherlands and i also grew up with the idea that eskimo was just a normal word, but i have complete faith that you guys will come up with something awesome. I wanna thank you guys for always making me smile when i see your videos. everyone can see the work and joy you put in them.!!!!
I feel like you guys did a great job in the situation and getting a new name doesnt change youre band at all its still the band who is open fun and welcoming for everyone im exited for the new songs to come out 🤗 and hopefully you guys have a great day 😁
I know you're speaking with people who have some cred behind their name about the band name, but I would say if you just went by Callboy, it's an easy enough fix. Not only does the issue resolve itself, but its similar enough to the original where people will still know who you are. Glad to see you back Nico. :)
Yeah, but what about when "Callboy" becomes problematic because it is kind of a slur too. Currently it isn't under fire but I can see it getting to that point. The term "sex workers" came about bc people thought prostitutes, hookers etc were derogatory, so this could happen.
Hi lads from the UK here. Just change your name to avoid the hastle. ReRelease the songs for the new album again under the new band name. Hypa hypa, we got the moves, pump it by new band name. A name doesn't change the music and you guys are one stop chugg boat to heaven x
It's good that you're getting more information about the subject than what is on the internet. Keep being yourselves and keep making great music, the name doesn't matter as long as you stay true to what makes you awesome
As far as a name change goes, yeah it seems like a pretty big deal and a scary change, but whatever the name change is I'll keep enjoying your music! You guys are great!
Glad you are feeling better Nico! It'll be strange seeing the name go, but I respect the decision. I feel like a very small amount of people actually know that "Eskimo" is a derogatory term for the Inuit tribes and others of Canada. It's not taught nor explained as much to people like other ones. That said, I can't wait for the new album! If Pump It is any indication, this new one is going to be great! 🤘
I feel like also the idea that Eskimo doesn't have the background like "indian" or the n-word. I'm not sure of any major history surrounding groups that came up with the name eskimo?
@@katiescott3354 my point exactly. If you want to learn why the n-word is bad it's really easy to find answers. If you want to know more about why "Eskimo" is bad you literally have to research it yourself. I'm from Michigan and as far as we Michiganders knew it was the name of a Native tribe in Canada. I only recently (about 2ish years ago) found out from my uncle that it's a derogatory term for the Inuit people.
@@ianmcpeck424 I lived in Alaska for most of my life and other than the interior tribes, most of the Inuit and other brethren tribes were not offended by the term. In fact they embraced it as a differentiation from the interior tribes. I know of the words origins, but most of the people that would properly be called Eskimo have taken is as a badge of pride rather than a slur or racist term. I have lived with these people, and believe me, origins aside, the term is not considered racist by the very people that it applies to.
U guys brought me so much joy in the darkest times with your latest music. I love how much energy we got the moves gives me. The pump it is amazing to hear through workouts and in a break time in work. Love you guys, stay healthy and safe. 🙏

You guys are the absolute best! Love your videos and music. Such good feel music. A breath of fresh air in the metal scene seeing dudes having so much fun and carrying on. One thing I will say is that the only thing missing from some of your videos is… THE HOFF!
As an American, I will say the name initially gave me a big hesitation before I heard any of your work. That said, after getting to know the band a little through the music, lyrics, videos, behind the scenes, etc., I don't associate that word with the negative anymore. To me, it really does end up a case of reclaiming the word for something else in a positive way. HOWEVER, I'm not a native person, or a person that is offended by that word personally, so my opinion is a bit moot there. I really sympathize for you guys because this is a tricky spot for sure. Regardless, huge huge HUGE kudos to you for even bringing up this topic at all. That shows you guys have massive balls (in a good way) to put this at the front and say "hey, this isn't who we are and we don't like how it makes people feel when they see it." Whatever you choose to do, I have such crazy newfound respect for you guys.
As your neighbour, me too never thought your band name could be considered a bad thing, in fact I never really thought about it at all. I always thought it was like a common denominator for several groups of people, not knowing it was considered derogative. After I read your post in December, I started reading up on the term and can see why people from that part of the world (Canada, Alaska, etc.) could or would find it offensive. I think it's a good thing (for everyone) to reflect every now and again, and improve things that can be improved. But changing a band name, that's not a small decision. Knowing you guys, by what I've seen online, I am sure you never meant any harm with it. And I am sure you'll think of something. I mean if you can think of stuff like the Hypa Hypa, We got the Moves and Pump It songs and videos, how could you not? Greetings from NL. Houdoe en bedankt! 😁
Didn't even know it was considered a negative word... You learn something new every day xD but if you guys put out bangers like you did last year then you deserve it all! Goodluck on making that decision can't think after so many years that a band rename would be in the works but hope you guys keep growing and reaching more people! easily one of my fav bands! stay awesome!
Things change over the past 10 years since they started the band like even if you listen to their older music some songs wouldn’t really be good nowadays with the lyrics they used
I think this has been a pretty interesting experience to watch play out, and I appreciate your openness and positivity in tackling it. I hope whichever path you guys take works out for you, it seems to me you deserve good fortune.
Can't wait to hear more from you! Love you guys so much! I'm really glad Nico's feeling better and you guys are moving up. The name change is appreciated by those affected, I'm sure. Good on you guys for being mindful and considerate!
Thank you for your amazing music, but also for being thoughtful and caring people. Change your name. You are doing it for the right reasons and you will get positive press and more opportunities. Your fans already understand and will follow you regardless of your name, and you might find that the North American market opens up even more to you. Much love!
Honestly had no idea "Eskimo" was a vulgar slur. I just thought the name you guys had, has a nice unique sound to it. Hope you guys get that sorted out, and hope everything else goes swimmingly
When i google the term "Eskimo" i only find articles about it being a general term for certain ethnic groups arount the arctic, and there is no real controversy around it. I think any "controversy" stems once more from people who think they have to get offended on behalve of others for signal virtuing.
@@Cennti its not just americans. they are german. If you actually look at legit news sources, instead of buying the mainstream shtick, youd see that its worldwide. It really helps to know people in other countries and states to get the facts from boots on the ground. Like my buddy bill from green jello, any advertising is good advertising right??, showed live streams of stores full of food in la while there were supposedly shortages in la. On a side note im the guy that exposed corey feldman for throwing a party at the rainbow while he was supposedly home scared for his life from death threats and attempts.
@@Cennti its not just Americans , here in Canada a football team in the CFL had to change their name from the Edmonton Eskimos to the Elks. It may not seem like a big deal where you are from but it is in canada especially up in the territories.
"Eskimo" is like a term for North American Indigenous person in that it's old and not a precise term, but you aren't a governmental agency that needs to use a precise word like "Inuit" or "Aleut". If we stopped using some words just because some people misuse them, we'd eventually run out of words we can use.
Hey Guys! I am an Indigenous musician from Canada and I have to say your music is always something to look forward to. I must admit that there was some apprehensiveness at first when I first found your band, given the name. Eskimo itself is a derogatory term within Canada, just as it is saying the word "Indian". These terms have been used as seeing Indigenous people as heathens, or less than others, to put it lightly. These are terms that were used by those who "colonized" the country. Colonize, I mean by stealing lands and various forms of systematic genocide. The residential school systems were just one of the many heinous tools used to have this done, as well as the 60's scoop and so on, and so on. Also, the term Eskimo Callboy, may not ring well with many groups within North America such as MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women), where thousands of women (varying ages) have gone missing by means of abduction or trafficking. I am sure you have already done a bit or research on these issues. And I do understand that Europe tends to not have much info on these subjects. I am well aware of a festival in Germany that celebrates "Indian Traditions" and even had an "Indian TV Hero, Mantiou"... played by a white guy.. lol Which I find funny for many reasons. But it also shows the lack of education and thus the understanding of why it is wrong.. It is quite a cycle to break. Especially for something to have been engrained for so long. I am glad that you are taking the time to reflect on the matter, as not many others would even take the time to do that. I will say though that a name change, would certainly open up your fan base. But also understand the hesitancy as well.
This is absolute nonsense. I don't think there is a nation that deals more reflectively with its and other pasts than Germany. I myself was in America for years and also in Canada for a year and what is taught there in terms of history is absurd. Some of you across the pond still think that Hitler is still alive. Oo The word Eskimo is no more offensive than the word Jew. And the Jews don't complain about being called Jews either, because they are just that, Jews! And they are proud, of what they can be! That would be like banning "Canadians" from 2024, just calling Canadians, just because a handful of people feel something needs to change.
@@bujac9740 I don't think it's absolute nonsense, you're only addressing a small fracture of the message above and what might be interpreted the way you think it is. Even comparing the words Eskimo to Jew is rather far fetched - but I think you know that and I fell for your trap :-) I just wanted to point out that it's not very polite to address the very eloquently and thorough response above with the words "this is absolute nonsense" by saying that of course Germans reflect their own history very well, which was not the point of the message above. I'd rather say that Germans don't reflect American and especially Indigenous history of the people who live/lived there very well.
@@bujac9740 Something you should research, since you want to bring up those atrocities. Have a look into how Hitler was inspired to do some of things he did. You will be quite surprised. It takes a little digging and not a simple google search. I also would like to note that I never said Germany is not reflective. A matter of fact, they are quite reflective of what has happened before and look down upon those kinds of ideologies resurfacing. If anything, North America needs to take note on that. And as for the word Eskimo... You should do some research on that as well... it is a demeaning term.. hence why the more respectful term is Inuit, pretty different. I can safely say that of the 200 various indigenous communities within Canada alone, each one is unique in their culture and history. They do not simply fly under one identifying flag. That would be like you generalizing everyone who speaks German to be German... Austrians speak a very similar language, but very much different from each other. But to go even simpler.. imagine someone coming to your home. Never leaving.. they slowly start inviting their friends. They never leave.. their family.. and so on. And they tell you that your name is this from now on because like the sound of it... How would you feel? Not to mention the name to be something with a meaning that is degrading.. Now imagine you and your family being called that. And then your ancestors are only seen as that.. See where I am getting at? In all, I think it is great the band is reflective. Not many are willing to do that.
While I am against you guys changing your band name I will support whatever choice you guys make I also totally understand why you have to change your band name. Wish you guys the best for 2022
There is literally a band called "infant annihilator" here in the U.S. and people threaten boycott playing with you over "eskimo." It is your guys brand, and I will listen to you guys regardless of what you call yourselves, and I respect the reason why you guys are considering it.
I've heard people referring to you only as "E. Callboy" and I gotta say that it has a nice ring to it and it doesn't drastically change your name. As a Canadian I'm a little bit anxious about sharing your music, as the first thing people say is always about your name and how they would never listen to a band with a derogatory term in it even if it was the best band in the world.
No matter what you guys decide to do with the name, you will always have a loyal fanbase.
On the bright side, if you choose to change now, before Eurovision, you'll at least have a good chance at advertising the band under your new name through Eurovision.
So true and such a good point that they might need to consider.
@@lookatthesparks That's definitely part of the name change. 1) They might be criticized at Eurovision for their current name 2) Eurovision offers them the chance to market their new name.
Eurovision Callboy.

Lamb of God used to be called Burn the Priest, but venues gave them a hard time about putting that name on their billboards so they changed their name. Same great music, different name. Doesn't bother me one bit if your name changes as long as the music is good. Keep on pumping out the jams!
I didn't know that! Pretty cool and makes the name Lamb of God that much more ironic.
Then they came out with a burn the priest album once the were big
Was going to write something similar. Being my favorite band, Lamb Of God came to mind right away. Excellent comment and comparison!
They changed their name after one album and before they ever hit it big. NOT the same thing.
Win win.
Eskalation Callboy, Electronic Callboy, Epic Callboy. You need to stay with EC its a must. Love you guys, keep on Rockin ma dudes
Also, glad to hear Nico handled Nicovid-19 well. 💪
Tank, exactly the kind of thoughtful, nuanced and compassionate response that makes me proud to be a fan of your work too. Thanks for all you bring to the EC family, hope to meet you in a mosh pit some day when things are safe again!
"Also, glad to hear Nico handled Nicovid-19 well." - I CAN SEE A SONG IN THE MAKING!

That's very well put, my thoughts exactly
And you also hit the nail on the head here :D Let's make your comment bigger!
@@TheOnlySiggi Thanks.
@@meep5667 thanks

If you shorten the brand to simply “Callboy” or something of that sort it could almost go forward with minimal damage to your name recognition.
All the best, I can’t wait for the album, boys. Glad you’re doing well with your recovery, Nico.
They could try to also keep the initials.
Erotic Callboy? Ecstatic Callboy? Electrifying Callboy? Enlightened Callboy? Ethnic Cleansing? Oh wait.
Honestly you could rename yourselves "Flaming Bags of Shite" and I'd still be listening to your music constantly, and wearing the merch too 😂
Honestly, you guys are doing this the right way.
Good to see you back. Please add some more UK dates to your tour. Pleaseeee 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Coming from Denmark (which includes Greenland) that word is highly frowned upon here as well for a few years now. It’s not only a problem in Canada.
try to go to Lapland and tell me that word is not frowned upon
i feel like most people wouldn't consider or don't realize eskimo is a "racist slur", i have never thought of eskimo as having any negative connotation, i live in Canada and i didn't know, whatever you decide keep making music and ill keep listening
Exactly! Canadian as well. I kind of like the word, like I have positive feelings around it.
@Area Man how is it a slur? Do you even know what "Eskimo" means?
@Area Man this is clearly more complex than you make it seem. there are plenty of indigenous people who dont have an issue with the term eskimo, there are things like the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative where they use the term themselves.
@Area Man Native American was a name give to our natives by non-native people. Is that a slur?
@Area Man how about "aboriginal"? How about African?
the fact that you guys bring so mutch happiness in the truest form of chaos and still be so understanding to other peoples feelings is amazing im right next door in the netherlands and i also grew up with the idea that eskimo was just a normal word, but i have complete faith that you guys will come up with something awesome. I wanna thank you guys for always making me smile when i see your videos. everyone can see the work and joy you put in them.!!!!
Well.. if name change is finally requiered .. i would name it Screamo Callboy. Sounds almost the same xD
I'm disabled and do is my dad. But our second time to see yall. Everything is bigger in Texas. Def. A big fan!
I feel like you guys did a great job in the situation and getting a new name doesnt change youre band at all its still the band who is open fun and welcoming for everyone im exited for the new songs to come out 🤗 and hopefully you guys have a great day 😁
whatever you guys as a band decide to do will always support you guys!!! love the music hope to see you in Australia soon!!!!
Whatever you think is right, you have my support! Will always listen and love all your music.
Finally a 2022 video from my favorite band; Arctic Escort!
As far as a name change goes, yeah it seems like a pretty big deal and a scary change, but whatever the name change is I'll keep enjoying your music! You guys are great!
Just keep it and that Canadian band can be thankful they'll have a chance of sharing the stage with you guys in the future.
@@ianmcpeck424 how is it derogatory?
@@Ponce2170 RAW MEAT EATER aka still af few of us around :-O
@@ianmcpeck424 I lived in Alaska for most of my life and other than the interior tribes, most of the Inuit and other brethren tribes were not offended by the term. In fact they embraced it as a differentiation from the interior tribes. I know of the words origins, but most of the people that would properly be called Eskimo have taken is as a badge of pride rather than a slur or racist term. I have lived with these people, and believe me, origins aside, the term is not considered racist by the very people that it applies to.
Guys, you were my best find in 2021.
I really love you so much 😘
U guys brought me so much joy in the darkest times with your latest music. I love how much energy we got the moves gives me. The pump it is amazing to hear through workouts and in a break time in work. Love you guys, stay healthy and safe. 🙏
I don't care what you guys decide to call yourselves. You're music is incredible and I can't wait to see your show in Louisville, KY. Already got the tickets! 🤘
Same!
As a Canadian fan, I understand the dilemma. I hope you find an answer that works for you and I applaud you for the way you are handling it. Congratulations on the success!
Happy new year you legends, I hope to see many more ridiculous film clips throughout the year. Love from Straya!!
Just make it Callboy. Or whatever.
Be decisive. Be clear in your reasoning. Your fans will stick around.
Es ist ein Wort, get over it.
Großartige Einstellung! Ihr macht das ganz richtig. 👍🏻
Frohes neues Jahr an euch Jungs
You guys are the absolute best! Love your videos and music. Such good feel music. A breath of fresh air in the metal scene seeing dudes having so much fun and carrying on. One thing I will say is that the only thing missing from some of your videos is… THE HOFF!
Can´t wait to see your new band name and hear what you will bring to Eurovision.
Merci pour ce que vous faites ! Vous êtes tops ! 😘
That shows you guys have massive balls (in a good way) to put this at the front and say "hey, this isn't who we are and we don't like how it makes people feel when they see it."
Whatever you choose to do, I have such crazy newfound respect for you guys.
It's too hard to keep up on what is offensive and what isn't. It changes from minute to minute.
@@DarthBester also true...
Things change over the past 10 years since they started the band like even if you listen to their older music some songs wouldn’t really be good nowadays with the lyrics they used
Eskimo means "Meat-Eater"
@@Herdatec Nope, it doesnt.
I think this has been a pretty interesting experience to watch play out, and I appreciate your openness and positivity in tackling it. I hope whichever path you guys take works out for you, it seems to me you deserve good fortune.
Let's goooooo...
Glad you're alright Nico, bring on the new music!!
Much love!
You guys will continue to find success regardless of your name. Your music and energy is fun and amazing. The world loves you ❤
Honestly had no idea "Eskimo" was a vulgar slur.
Pretty sure it's not. Just americans who are professionally offended by every small thing.
Wow look at these scumbag porn scam spammers. I most certainly wish all scammers the absolute worst in life.
Oo
The word Eskimo is no more offensive than the word Jew.
Even comparing the words Eskimo to Jew is rather far fetched - but I think you know that and I fell for your trap :-)
I just wanted to point out that it's not very polite to address the very eloquently and thorough response above with the words "this is absolute nonsense" by saying that of course Germans reflect their own history very well, which was not the point of the message above.
You guys changing to German and talking faster is the definition of "V-tec kicking in Yoh!!"
In Russia Eskimo is an ice-cream....
Sounds like E.Coli
I can say I am blessesd to have discovered you guys! Found out who you were when I saw the tour with Attack Attack and love it all!
