You can tell that Dream and Nightmare are still not as close as they were before, but are close enough to act as a team, when needed. The first line Dream said, "You're late", and Nightmare saying "Personal Reasons", seems like a bad start to the conversation. Then, Dream asks Nightmare what's worrying him, with Nightmare saying, "Killer had a breakdown, nothing you could help with, Dream.", which seems to further imply that Nightmare still sees Dream as mostly useless. When Dream asks if it was about the "cheating" situation, Nightmare says , "The W H A T?", with "what" being spaced out in all caps and spaced apart, making it clear he's angry. Dream's face then goes dark, fearing that Nightmare will have an outburst towards Killer. After Dream explained what happened, Nightmare's anger grew, with a frustrated look, his teeth showing. Then, when Dream suggests there's a logical explanation, Nightmare has an angry grin, saying, "Give me one valid explanation for why my fiancé wouldn't tell something like this." It's also worth noting that Dream stammers, indicating that he knows he and Nightmare aren't that close. One wrong word, and their brotherhood could be over once more. As for Killer, as far as Nightmare's concerned, he's loyal, and has been for quite some time. Then, the line Dream says that changes EVERYTHING. "Maybe he's scared of you(r) reaction?" That's when Nightmare's grin fades, and then his eyelights turn purple. Not only does this explanation make PERFECT sense, but it makes Nightmare go into a depressed state, FAR more negativity than even HE can handle. Killer is that ONE person he can rely on, 100%. It was Killer who changed Nightmare for the better. Nightmare would not be where he is now if Killer hadn't been there for him, and so if course he'll regret every time he hurt him, scaring this ONE person who went out of their way to do so much for him to the point where Killer feels he has to keep secrets to avoid further trauma. This would be enough to make ANYONE feel horrible about themselves. Now, previously, Nightmare was the smarter of the two brothers, with Dream being on the more inexperienced and oblivious side. HERE, though, it's NIGHTMARE who is oblivious here, and DREAM who is acting as the wise one, their roles effectively reversing. It means so much that Dream, who has been oblivious in the past, and for so long, says something to Nightmare, who was so wise, and teaches him something by pointing out Nightmare's major flaw. The student teaches the teacher. I LOVE it. It gives this situation a LOT more meaning. I want to add, it's just emotional seeing Nightmare crying over Dream. Proves that even the guardian of negativity himself needs some positivity sometimes! When Nightmare comes back, Killer tells, Horror, "Leave me alone! I'm fine!", when we know, as the viewers, that Killer is NOT fine. I also like how Nightmare calls Killer a "smart idiot", which actually sums up Killer quite well. Killer did something the average thinker wouldn't do, by disobeying Nightmare's request after Dream almost ended him. This, while illogical, ultimately helped Nightmare become who he is now. When Nightmare says, "I know about the cheating", Killer has a scared expression, probably bracing for the worst, but when Nightmare clears Killer of any wrongdoing, Killer's eyes stare up at Nightmare, with this being the reaction he LEAST expected. Killer then cried over Nightmare, apologizing, while confirming Dream's suspicion. Nightmare also APOLOGIZES to Killer about what he did. Before now, we never really saw Nightmare apologize to ANYONE. Sure, he changed, and had regret for his actions, but he never really apologized, which would go against his job of spreading negativity. This is a HUGE leap for Nightmare. Then, the kiss. Nightmare's eyes flash from blue to purple and back in milliseconds, and he blushes. This is Killer letting Nightmare know, "I forgive you, and I'll always be here for you." This is the sign that Killer is no longer afraid of Nightmare, and is willing to show his flaws. This now ends any mistrust between the two. In conclusion, this was a MAJOR turning point for Nightmare. His knowledge of his abuse, with the lingering fear, the last major barrier preventing his gang from making the most out of each other, is now gone. And Dream and Nightmare are even closer now, with Dream showing that he can be wise and mature, when needed. Makes me wonder how Nightmare will react when he finds out Cross and Dream are dating... Also, when Dream gave Nightmare his crown, Nightmare seemed to be reminded of memories, certain ones, Negative and Positive. I think their brotherhood will become more stronger in the future making the balance (I think) more better. You explained everything real well though !
