3:32 It's wild to think, dude lives on in history as a footnote because he led an attack one day 80 years ago. Little picture of him and all. So interesting how history works. Will people know his name in a thousand years? Even if it's only 1 in a 1000 people who watch the video that remember his name. He lives on in a sense.
"There she goes," said an officer watching from a nearby cruiser. "She didn't turn over. She is going down with her head up. Dear old Lex, a lady to the last."
I’m fascinated by the battle of the Coral Sea. My dad was on the aircraft carrier “The Coral Sea “ during Vietnam and a little of the Korean War. Please consider doing more on the Coral Sea, please:)
I still miss your old format before you got the maps... I really enjoyed you sitting at the desk with your coffee cup... Periodically I will watch some of your videos now, but once upon a time I would watch them all... It just seemed more personal
The cumulative plane and, especially, pilot losses of the operations before and the day of the attacks on Lex and York left Sho's and Zui's air groups significantly depleted. With Shoho and her planes down, Zui didn't have enough operational planes to properly support an invasion of Port Moresby.
IJN doctrine didn't allow airwings to mix and match with other ships so IJN could've had 5 carriers at midway instead of 4 had the remaining planes from Shokaku were assigned to Zuikaku.
Led to Midway victory to a significant extent. Much greater confidence in US thinking. Midway led to offensive on Guadalcanal. Ultimately a Japanese quagmire. Forced Japanese to do disastrous Milne Bay landing and Kokoda overland catastrophe operations where tough Australians kicked ass. Offensives in New Guinea ensued. More quagmire for Japanese.
This statement, “suffering two torpedo hits and 8 to 10 bomb hits” is so far from the truth that I can only deduce that they were stating Japanese claims and failed to make this clear in the video. Throughout the war, all combatants made claims that were wildly inaccurate.

Much appreciated, thanks.

I've covered the entire battle in extreme detail in 5 parts. This is the final episode - you can find the rest on my channel!
The japanese kate pilot who guided the attack on the us carriers even after knowing that he wouldn't have enough fuel to return is one badass nippon
Another pilot did the same thing at midway
The increased quality in the videos is highly noticeable, well done! Keep up the good work!
I rly like this series, love the videos
Amazing videos as always!
Another great video!
What I find best about your animation is a water trails shown behind ships. Becoz of It feels like they are trying really hard to save ship from hits.
I am looking forward to your Midway video. Great job
Well presented!
They lost the "Lady Lex" but they saved the Ice Cream! 😁
Wonderful video! Such a pivotal point in the war!

Fantastic video. I love this channel
Another wonderful historical coverage video was shared by an excellent ( house of history) channel. Thanks for sharing
Nicely done video
thank you for your work!
I can’t even imagine how terrifying these pacific naval battles must have been.
And at the end Takahashi's report became true. :)
Love this content!!!!
Loving the coverage of naval warfare ❤

Looks like Midway is forthcoming

I would love you to do the battle of Midway

Australians?? They were of barely any significance in WWII
Should have said the empire strikes back lol
good video
What we thought was happening with our Lego ships:
Well my warship fell off a balcony
let's get that Doolittle Raid video before Midway 🔥
Great video as always
Love these videos! Your hardwork is always appreciated! Hearth please ❤❤❤❤❤
Operation Meridian please
Bye Lady Lex. I'm so glad we found her.
Was Captain Sherman a descendant of W.T. or was he unrelated ?
❤❤❤❤❤
The US was able to rebuild faster, crazy to think that the Lexington would have survived
The Empire Strikes Back
Have they technically ever before this not "Struck"? Evene Midway was a japanese attack for which the US lay in ambush.
Hirohito's Counterattack
9:40 The Yorktown didn’t receive any torpedo hits and 1-2 bomb hits. Another YTer did a video abt this and accurately did report the damage done.
This statement, “suffering two torpedo hits and 8 to 10 bomb hits” is so far from the truth that I can only deduce that they were stating Japanese claims and failed to make this clear in the video. Throughout the war, all combatants made claims that were wildly inaccurate.
@@WorldWar2inColoursBut who were the worst?
IDK? Should I believe Stanley Johnston, a war correspondent aboard Lexington(7xType 91 hits+2x250Kg hits), or You?🤣
@@Commissioner62 google it, yorktown and lexigotn didn't suffer that much damage
Lady Lex would soon be avenged in the Battle of Midway.
The Americans deployed Dauntlesses as CAP?
Yeah, doesnt sound right, does it?
Supposed to be vs. torpedo planes
Yes. They weren’t helpless and were tough. Certainly could screw up a bomb or torpedo run.
👍👍👍
eng sub please~!
👀👍🇮🇪🎄⚓
Stick to yer potataes Scully !
The beeping sound in the Cyber Ghost ad is ridiculous, they have to take that out.
Say dates properly. It's not difficult.... 8th of May. The other way sounds lazy as hell
Different countries use different date methods mate
