Story:
A crime-thriller set in the Mumbai Underworld, Meow Meow is the story of two street hoodlums, Salman and Keeda, who dream of rising up in the gang world.
They work for a small-time criminal as debt collectors but when their boss gets involved in a lucrative drug deal with a politician’s agent they become the primary enforcers.
The drug trade leads them to the city’s wealthy party crowd. It’s not a world they understand. Amdist the violence and bloodshed, they begin to question their loyalties and identities.
Everything comes to a boil when Keeda’s increasing obsession with a girl he has met, Sana, threatens to destroy them.
Director's Note or Statement on the film
Meow Meow is an emotional expression. Although the plot revolves around the Mumbai crime world, my primary interest in making the film was the characters. I have known people like this for a long time. I wanted to make a movie that shows the clash of cultures when people inhabiting two very different worlds are forced to meet and work together.
The film explores themes of love, class struggle and repressed sexuality, the guilt and shame associated to it, and living in contemporary, modern India, where changing social mores and cultural landscapes present an increasingly complicated and conflicted challenge for young people.
