    I've seen her dad preach many times and even went to dinner with him a few times. I attended Hyles-Anderson College as well. I did not make it a whole year before I was kicked out for having my own courage to do the things that I thought God wanted me to do and not what this cult wanted me to do. Theres a vibe these types of preachers give me and I new very early on that something was off. Thank you for having the courage to use your voice and speak out against these evil men and their cults.

    I would like to know the secrets. But thank you for sharing. I left FBC of Hammond a year after Jack Schaap was put in prison and I always wondered why your sister never spoke up and I knew she had to know that something was going on... I was good friends with the girl he was imprisoned for sexually abusing. There is a peace of my past that I simply can’t remember and I’m desperately trying to uncover it. Thank you for shining light on the truth. I too share your three values. Much love ❤️

    Like all religious groups, Independent Baptist Churches have radicals. I have been a member of a Independent Baptist church for many years. I have seen a few of them that are associated with the one Linda is talking about and they are all like that. My church and another one I have been a member of are absolutely nothing like this. We worship God. Our pastor leads us in the way we should go, but if we fall we are not ostracized. The pastor is our friend and we love him and don't worship him!!!

    I was a student at HAC for part of one year. Within the first month I knew something was wrong. I'd gone to HAC to study the Bible, but instead with studied Jack Hyles. We were required to be members of the FBC of Hammond, Indiana. We were required to requite children for his Sunday school. In fact, there is a video here on youtube of this man claiming that his students were his children and his army. I was there for the mess in 1989. All of us who left (over half of the student body) were considered the problem that God had eradicated from the school when in fact we had witnessed the atrocities this man generated. I could go on and on.
    Thank you Linda for standing up for what is right and presenting your story.

      My former pastor, Steven Froelke (I'm sure you know the name as he was a toady of Hyles and new sits on the board at HAC and is a deacon I believe at FBC now) was and is an insider as our church was an extension of FBC. Looking back on my childhood years, I can't believe I didn't see the nonsense that went on being around Hyles and Froelke so often. I didn't believe it until a good friend of mine who was a student was assaulted on campus for leaving without permission to purchase medication when he was sick. I can't believe I wanted to go to college there "to find a husband"....What nonsense I was taught! Thankfully, my break wasn't nearly as traumatic as Linda's...

    • @Kman.
      @Kman. 5 лет назад +3

      *Stacy* A "toady"? Either way, Steve Froelke is not on any "board"...not sure what you meant by that...and an "insider"? Victory Baptist was no "extension" of FBC Hammond(???). You've now thrown out *FOUR* words/terms that really make little to no sense. Lastly, you make reference to some sort of "nonsense". Forgive me, but what you've said holds little to no water, *AND* you didn't believe "IT" which means what? *SMH*

    • @Kman.
      @Kman. 5 лет назад +2

      @James Dare Don't take *ME* wrong, but exactly what "accusations" in particular do you declare to be false? The mentality (at least used to be), was that if you didn't *SEE* it happen, then it *DIDN'T* happen. Blind loyalty was a basic tenant that flowed from *HAC* and *FBCH* . Did all do so? No, but it was woven into the hearts and minds of the students, & overflowed to the congregants as a whole at FBCH.

    This church completely destroyed our large family and my best friend's family. My dad became completely brainwashed by the cultic mentality and all of our lives were changed. I went to school with Linda. I remember her being very quiet. I think I knew back then that it was hard for her. How I wish we had never seen that church! Many lives ruined! His son, Dave, was a disaster to my brothers. None of them go to church now. He caused so much scandal to souls. Thank you, Linda, for speaking out. Wow … thank you Linda for telling your story. I grew up in IFB churches across the Gulf Coast where your dad was one of the heroic voices of the tribe. As a teenager and a PK, my brothers and I began to question and suspicion all the hidden secrets of the movement, as you so courageously describe - and eventually, after years of keeping our own small town secrets and denying truth, we made our Exodus from the tribe at around my age 40, with my little family intact. Decades of therapy and healing have followed of course. The residual pain and suffering has not been nearly for my family what you have experienced, but I thank God for the courage to speak up and to stand up for freedom and truth, and to finally move forward. Blessings as you continue to share your brave story! 🕊

      I once did, from '87--'91, here in my hometown. I had previously attended a small IFB church overseas in the military that was quite nice, but the larger one here was the typical "pastor is infallible" type, and among other things, I got real tired of the browbeating, etc. I just up and left, and it was like I'd left a cult. When I encountered the asst. pastor in a store one day, he didn't even talk to me. Ran into the treasurer another time, and he asked where I'd been...No "Are you OK?" or anything, just wanted an explanation. Phoniest bunch of jerks, that's what they were.

    I survived HAC. I was there the year that her dad died, 2001. I had never faced so much hatred, sexism, and racism as when I walked in those doors. Being judged because of my race, it was painful. I was denied a lot because of it. I got a lot of negative attention because of it. I had to leave after my first year for my own sanity. If you want a degree that you can't use out in the real world, go there. I grew up in FBC under her dad's reign. My adulthood was under her brother-in-law's reign until he was locked up. I was saved after attending an IFB church 3 times. I grew up in another denomination who taught me FACTS about God, but not about FAITH in God.
    The IFB church taught me the “ rest of the story”
    This church had a great pastor who loved people and just preached and lived out the Bible. That church accepted me as newly saved , but still rough around the collar.
    I dont know about Jack Hyles. We’ll find out one day. I do know I enjoyed his messages .
    Not all IFB churches are cultic , but some are. I do know there was a Hyles- worshipping church near me that used to be a good church but they got real mean spirited and would even steal our bus kids by getting there right before us on sunday and basically kidnapping the kids by convincing them to go with them and not even telling the parents it was a different church . Very ungodly people. That doesn’t mean they are all bad. I went to a good one.
    The church I go to now I describe as IB.

      I was saved in an IFB church. I was grounded in the Word of God in an IFB church. I went to IFB camps. Took my kids to IFB church and camps. Atttended IFB College. I dearly LOVE brother Hyles. I DO NOT WORSHIP JACK HYLES. I'm so broken hearted to see (feel) the hatred oozing through many of these posts. There are no perfect pastors or churches. I AM NOT IN ANY WAY CONDONING BROTHER HYLES SIN (IF, IF, IF , IF) he is guilty. If you say I am, you are wrong. Sin is sin no matter who is committing it. I spent hours counseling David Hyles. I saw him weep. I spoke with his wife of 30 years much of that time. That boy has paid dearly for his sin. Let me leave you with this thought. (Again I AM NOT CONDONING ANYBODY'S SIN). Consider the sweet psalmist of Israel. He had an affair (committed adultery) with the wife of one of his mighty me while he was on the battlefield defending David's kingdom. He tried to cover his sin and when that didn't work, he had Uriah the Hittite murdered on the battlefield. Man THIS GUY WAS A DIRT BAG! I wouldn't want to read ANYTHING this guy had to say! Yet, yet, yet, yet... JESUS was referred to as "The son of David" and didn't object!

    I attended a sister church to this one in my area, who's pastor frequently praised Jack Hyles. When I look at tapes of Mr Hyles, my pastor was mimicing him! Some 20 years later, I lost a child to a drug overdose, and another to the world. They were angry with church. I will forever live with the knowledge that I was a part of a cult. I gave up my time, family time, and happiness to do Gods Will. I know now it was all a waste of time. I still attend church, but it has a different meaning for me now. I am no longer identified by what I DONT do, but how I live out the love of Christ in me.

They need to study the life of the Apostle Paul who endured so much for the cause of Christ. Men are men and all living in robes of flesh so prone to sin. FIRST, there must be two or three witnesses. That probably never happened. If there was sin and no witnesses, then we have to trust God who is the avenger of those who have suffered injustice.
      I never saw evidence that God was judging Jack Hyles. Therefore, I discount all the rumors. I must if I am going to be just.
      The damage to the cause of Christ caused by the disgruntled people who believed rumors and spread them is FAR greater than the damage that would have occurred if Jack Hyles had indeed committed adultery and had gotten caught and punished!

I learned very little about the word of God.... and everything about the philosophy of Jack Hyles. It was mind control and I am thankful to have been able to walk away from that cult. Linda Murphrey needed to not only expose the mess she had endured but also to warn people not to blindly follow men. Imagine how painful her life was. And- what of her brother, Dave Hyles, that followed his dad's shadow into secret sin and mind control? In fact, I am close to a woman that Dave Hyles used and almost destroyed her life. Finally, what of his daughter Cindy? She married the successor of Hyles Anderson College; Jack Schaap. Mr. Schaap is still serving a prison term sentence for his sexual crimes against a minor student at Hyles Anderson College. You have no idea what you are talking about Early Day. Mrs. Murphey scratches the surface of the private sins she endured. Yet, there were many public sins that so many endured from this cult. I am thankful for her testimony and I hope she is well.

Those who were looking out for themselves clearly drank the koolaid. Those who were devoted to God and His Word and genuinely winning others to Christ, received many a blessing.

Ma’am where were you when your father was alive and was able to answer the accusations that you have made? I never met or knew her father. I was familiar with his name and where he was a pastor and that’s the extent of my knowledge of the man. He could have been guilty and he could not have been. My point is that there’s something very “off” about a grown woman living in victim hood and slandering a dead man. Whatever is motivating her isn’t doing anything for those within Christianity who are genuinely spending their lives trying to make a difference. Maybe she should start a Christian “Me Too “ movement and teach others how to be victims for the rest of their lives. 😂
