Oh I loved this video. I am an orchid novice and have binged watched your and Zane’s videos, also some ladies here in the U.S. in Florida. I am a member of my local garden club and will be putting on a presentation soon. Most of what I learned is what I know from you. I will be citing you at the end of my presentation!
This was really helpful, thank you! I have 3 phal orchids from a grocery store that I can't seem to revive, but they also aren't dying. I'm going to try to pot them together and see what happens! I have new potting mix and I'm hopeful. We will see what happens!
Hi Danny. I kinda worry about putting two orchids together. An issue I see in repotting orchids is root rot and what if one begins to rot would it take down the second one ? I just had an experience with a flower shop putting two orchids together where each orchid was mediocre, and by putting the two together created a rather nice display with blooms all over. But the focus on combining was display rather than health of the orchids resulting in one orchid dying. Another no no was to cutting the leaves to make the display seemed as one. Only result I had with this purchase was a nice big pot and yeah one of the phal saved.
I bought a bare-root Rhyncolaelia Aristocrat, and it ended up have 2 divisions in the same wrapping. I have another cutting that I messed up, but it's bouncing back. I plan to pot the all together eventually
Hi everyone. I need some advice please. I have received a sedirea japonica that was potted in moss but it needed to be repotted. I have decided to put it in leca but I heard this orchid needs to dry out completely before watering again. Should I just use leca with no draining holes and let it dry to then water or you think semi hydro is always a good choice? Second question is, is it feasible to reduce the stress of an orchid while transitioning from moss to leca if I let it dry for 1 week before filling up the reservoir? I also read an article that said that would help the orchid roots to adapt slowly but surely to the desired level of moisture.
How far down do you cut the flower spike after blooming? My sister bought me a beautiful blooming orchid arrangement with 2 big phalaenopsis planted side by in a big oval white basket in moss. How do I water this being in a basket? Should I poke holes in the basket. The leaves on one plant is turning yellow and falling off. I’m in CA can you please help me. I want to keep having beautiful orchids. Thanks in advance.
Leigh Ann Although I’m not MissOrchidGirl If the leaf that is dying is on the bottom in pretty sure that it’s normal for the orchid as it is just cycling through to replenish its leaves and the orchid will most likely produce new leaves from the crown. As for the basket I’m not so sure what to do is it in a pot that is sitting in the basket or is the orchid just sitting in the basket? Thanks for reading this if you do. I’m no expert but just wanted to help a fellow orchid grower!
Hmmm, I'm still not sure what to do. I bought a "huge" Dendrobium phalaenopsis on sale. When I removed it from the soil it was potted in (-___-), I figured out that it was actually not one huge plant, but five normal ones. No joke. Now I'm hoping for them to grow new roots, but once they have, I don't know if I should try to create a "big" plant again or give them to other people ...
Just be aware if you grow Cynorkis fastigiata as it is readily pollinated if grown in an environment that allows for insects and the seeds can disperse extremely easily. My personal experience is that it shares a pot happily with other orchids, which don't seem bothered by it.
Hi Danni (is that how you spell your name??) Thanks for this tutorial, really helpful - I wanted to plant my two phalaenopsis 'happy girl' plants together and this gave me the confidence to go ahead and do it! I watch your videos frequently and they have definitely been very useful to me on a number of occasions. Many thanks. :-)
Hi Dannie I see on eBay they sell tiny baby orchids in what they call a flask but it’s just a small container...how long do these tiny plants tale to grow to a sensible size & flower ..they were cattelaya
In the first case (mother phal + her keiki) do you try to separate them once the keiki is self-sufficient with it's own root system? Or, it's best to leave them alone?
Hi, depends on the orchid, with Phals and related I leave the keiki on, since it is close to the base and its roots can reach the medium. With Dendrobiums or other orchids with high positioned keikis I remove them, as they can't reach the medium :)
I have a fake whiskey barrel I'm mixing my non related phals large and miniature ones .. will message back if I remember what video I put this comment on im starting tomorrow I have roughly 12 orchids I think
Hey Danny can you please post what website you go to, to identify no id orchids? I have quite a few whose labels separated from my orchids during move which I have not been able to identify. Thx.😊
Hi, sadly there is no free website that has all the ID's, last time I checked the OrchidWiz was about 400 dollars. It's just a lot of google search :) here is how I do things ruclips.net/video/zN8ndi_FfYM/видео.html

We love a good old fashioned repotting! Or at least I do- love seeing orchids get a new place of residence for some reason!
I have my bulbophyllums planted together ... 2 per pot ... self watering and so far so good.
I do co-planting for phal too, I think it will be wonderful when they bloom at the same time, then I will have a bunch of flowers :)
I once tried this with a normal phal and a mini phal, the mini phal ended up covering the big phal with its keikis😁

One of my miniature phalaenopsis produced three keikis. I'm thinking of potting all of them together in a normal sized pot.

Hi Danni how are your orchids that are potted together going? 😊
Danny,, Thanks,, It's inspiring. I do have to try this way.
Can I pot two different non sibling phaelenopsis together?
I was hoping there was a link here in the comments to the result from last year!
I love RepotMe they are super nice really helpful and have quality produxts! Congrats!

I planted three phaleanopsis together (one died and one produced a spike). I’m thinking of planting 3 dendrobium phaleanopsis together.

Hi, I think on average it's about 5 years given proper conditions and no setback :)
In the first case (mother phal + her keiki) do you try to separate them once the keiki is self-sufficient with it's own root system? Or, it's best to leave them alone?
I have a phal with 3 basal keikis. I've left them together for almost a whole year and they're all doing fine and growing well.
@@o_o8203 thanks!

@@MissOrchidGirl my phy has no roots but does have keiki
I’ve read before that pailionanthes should be grown togethere so they can support each other since they have very thin stems.
Can I do this with a mini orchid and a regular Phal?
