No cost hack: removing the saddle and cleaning the clamp and rails for certain types of creaking at the saddle. I've also seen cases of creaking between derailleur hanger and frame that is fixed by removing, cleaning, reinstalling.
i live in very dusty/sandy conditions and every two weeks or so enough grit gets through the clamp and it starts creaking when i sit on the saddle. that one took me a while to figure out lmao
I'm freaking everytime I hear creaking on my saddle! Cleaning & just a tad bit of grease solves the problem for me. Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines! #KeepBiking
I started to use small/short velcro straps for my cable management. The velcro is easier to remove than a zip tie, the zip tie also tends to chafe or cut into the cables.
@@adamputu5448 Thank you. I found the creak. It was actually my handlebars, specifically the grips. Wild right? Once I changed my grips the sound went away. Took me forever to figure it out. Thought it was the fork, then the headset, etc. etc. Pretty much found it by accident when I changed the grips lol. Thanks though 👍
I upgraded my rear hub to an Onyx rear hub. Completely silent. Which turned out to be rather pointless since I can't hear anything on my bike over the sounds of my wheezing on a climb
My commencal clash has little clips that hold the cables together by the cockpit so they don’t rattle. It’s the little things that make me love commencal!

Might be costly but I found Gaffer tape to do a great job. I snagged a few rolls from my music and theatre days and used those on my guitars and my bikes and never once ripped or took on dirt and were great about resistance to water. Better yet in this AZ heat, they don’t leave tape residue
I had insulation around my internally routed brake hoses. Still made a lot of noise. An easier fix for rattling cables and break hoses in a down tube are home heating vent filters. They are super light weight and come in a package of 12. I just took off my fork and I stuffed 6 of them in through the head tube in to my down tube. Probably added 6 or so grams to my bike. No more rattling. If I ever need to get them out I have a flexible grasping tool that will easily snag it to remove. You could also cut up a furnace filter and do the same thing.
If you’ve got an old beat tire cut a bit of that off and glue it on to an existing chain stay protector. Comes off easy when it’s beat and works a dream with an old dhf
I use a big cable tie at the cable entry points to stop the outer making noise. Nice and snug, stays in on its own, plus I have an extra cable tie if I need one.
Uhhh mastic tape is only 10 bucks here in the US. I actually took small bouncy balls and cut them up to small domes, layed them out out on the chainstay and covered in mastic tape. about 12 bucks all in and I can make probably 4 or 5 for the cost
Like many things, we get fucked in Canada due to weird distributor situations, availability, and straight up gouging. I looked all over for that stuff a year or two back, I could only find it in contractor sized rolls for ridiculous amounts, or small rolls for about $30. Finally found some for $10, wrapped one stay and then lost the roll, as it should be.
My current chainstay protector is a pair of old foam grips that were past their best. Cut them down the length and secured with cable (zip) ties...they'll last a while until I need to find another zero cost option. Also, if you're using Duck/gaffer tape (call it what you will), 3M do an 'outdoor' type that's a bit stronger and thicker. Definitely worth a few coins more than regular tape, cos it lasts much better on the bike.
Always grease the main pivot on a new bike... You'll regret it if the pivot bolt friction- welds itself to the bearings. Trek is notorious for skipping the grease on new builds, but they're not alone.
Clean and lightly lube the seat post. I had the worst creaking sound that I couldn't figure out for the life of me. One day I wiped down my seat post clean then wiped on a thin grease layer while keeping the clamping surface clean. It was like magic that the creak was gone!
@@lymkb3 Some carbon frames are molded with polystyrene cores, others with a bladder. The bladder method creates a perfect resonator, like a guitar body. Combine that with flattened tube shapes, and it can transfer quite a bit of road or other noise.
Loom Tubing Cable Split Sleeving ......is cheap and easy and can be slide over internal cables without disconnecting. It looks like a weave like a finger trap.

That could be from the seat post , especially if is a hard tail , try with the seat post removed and listen the cracks , if is no clicks than not blame the pedaling , the solution is that grease the seat post

One of my favorite hacks is applying grease to my rotors it really quiets them up
Yeah, but grease gets a little too messy for my preference. I usually use wd-40, because it works great, and isn't such a mess
What if somebody actually does that 😂😂😂
I started to use small/short velcro straps for my cable management. The velcro is easier to remove than a zip tie, the zip tie also tends to chafe or cut into the cables.

double sided velcro and heavily greased hubs make me happy
That’s actually a really good idea
Commencals chain stay protection is absolutely brilliant. Mad Max style alternative: cut down an old tire and zip tie it to the frame
No one ever mentions the pivot joints for full suspension bikes. Those are peak sources of creaks.
