  • Repetitive stress injury is common for knitters and crocheters, so taking breaks often is important. Pick your favorites from these 10 that I have found useful for opening and loosening my hands after a long session.

    As knitters and crocheters, our hands clench and tighten repetitively so I like to use these stretches to help loosen and open my hands back up after a long session. I hope you'll find some here that you find useful. These should FEEL GOOD so if you experience pain, stop immediately and seek medical advice. xx

      Thank you so very much. I was already doing a few of these but I found the others to feel really great. I know they will help me greatly as I have a neuromuscular disorder and my hands were cramping because I started crocheting again recently.       I have Dupuytrens Syndrome with some contracture of my fingers. My ortho specialist recommended massaging my own hands as a treatment but gave no guidance to types of massage that might be beneficial.
      This has given me some options and ideas like the tennis ball and cork rolling & the hand stretches, very helpful.

    THIS was a Godsend!!! I am SO happy and thankful for your video! I self installed 2 pantry style cabinets yesterday...then tried to crochet last night. Did NOT happen and watched this @ 7:30 this morning. We do NOT realize how much pressure/tension we exert (without thinking about it) on & with our hands! THANK YOU!!!

      @PlayHookywithMe yes, especially after these "exercises". I'm retired medical as is my BFF, a physical therapist. She watched and totally agreed. Will back off for a week, then hit "the yarn & threads" again! Have a great one! 👍 ❣️

    I got an RSI from working at a library and moving books all day; at one point it felt like a knife slicing through my hand every time I tried to move it. Never want to deal with that again so trying to take more care of my hands while I crochet. Thanks for this video!

    This was very good to see and also the comments that other people also get pain. As I recently re started crochet this year when I retired, I went to fast too soon and ended up with bursitis in my shoulder - I was doing 6-7 hours a day. Obviously far too much. Now I know that when I restart I have to limit myself and I will also remember to do the excersices. Thankyou. Alison

    Thanks for this, I have arthritis and tendon issues in my hands, I did this along with you. As long as I don't push it,I can do these and I feel better afterwards. Thank you.

      If you're having issues with arthritis I try to keep my hands moving and I take aleve and tylenol arthritis. For my tendons message and heat. I wake up with my hands stuck in a closed fist, can't open them. I put them in the sink with hot water and slowly open and message them. If I do it too quickly I feel trigger finger in a couple fingers. So slow is the way I go, I also can't crochet as much as I used to 🙄.

    I found this hand stitch amazing because I’ve had shots in my 2 hands for trigger fingers so I’m hoping that I can abstain from more pain with the exercises

    This video is incredible, I love to knit and am also a florist. My wrists and hands get so fatigued if I don’t limit myself. Definitely going to show this to the girls at work

    Thanks for this! I already do a lot of these, but learned a few more. I have chronic pain issues that affect my hands so I have to be super careful. As long as let me do the things I love & enjoy, I'll keep going!

      I didn’t think it was 😂😅 sorry. I’ll say the music I almost chose , my daughter heard me testing it and she said it sounded like a 70’s porn video so I guess my taste is questionable- I don’t know 😂😂😂😅💕

    Quick question, how often do you mean by “regular”? Are we talking weekly, daily, or what?

      It depends on how often you are crocheting. If you crochet every day, then I’d personally do it every day. If you are spending a long day crocheting , take a break and pick your favorites exercises and stretch your hands for a couple of minutes. The key is to just listen to your body and not go too long without taking a break. 💕
