I’m sure this is already said somewhere, but it’s worth reiterating. These are bar none the best produced brewing videos on the entire internet. I’m definitely subbed for life. Thanks for doing this in style.
Don’t think for a second we wouldn’t notice that smirk at the end of the vid when you were pitching that chunky Kveik. Dope brews. Dope videography. Keep the gnarly coming.
Praise the Allfather! I've been looking for Norwegian beer recipes. You're a gentleman, a savior, and a scholar. Subscribed. "May the gods be with you." - Ren
Hey man, great video as always. The highest quality. Also, I was wondering. Will you make videos tasting the finished beer? It would be great to see a review! Cheers.
The finished beer review and fermentation statistics are important for homebrewers. I looked up most of your brews but hardly found a review. Even if it came out not as great, the critic goes a long way
Thanks! Appreciate the support! Yep, I think I’ve come up with a way to incorporate some tastings on the channel. I always skip that part of grain to glass videos so I didn’t want to go that route. Stay tuned - curious to hear what you guys think when it comes out!
Another excellent video. Super cool to see you doing all of these relatively unknown styles (unknown at least to American brewers). I'm ordering an Anvil Foundry this month and looking forward to testing it out.
@@HopsANDgnarly 10.5. All of my recipes and kegs and such are for 5 gallon batches, but the appeal of doing more, smaller batches more frequently is there.
Nice video, I'd like to give this style a try. Just a few tips next time you use kveik - give it a tonne of yeast nutrient and oxygenate the hell out of the wort. That's how you can get it to finish in 2 days! keep up the cool videos!
Love your videos. Well done...great videography and editing. Also, thanks for the info on David Heath. As a newbie to all grain, he is a wealth of info. Any other folks worth following?
Ok, so after watching this fir the third time, and doing two brews in my AF 6.5, I have a few questions: 1) You don’t stir every 15 minutes during Mash? And no recirc till Sparge? No problems with stuck grains.? 2) how big is the Carboy? Surely you’re not producing 5 gallons from that brew. 3) what are you doing for temp control on your fermentation? You have a fermentation chamber? Thanks, awesome videos as always. I learn something new each time I watch.
Hey Ken! I stir a bunch during the mash, especially during the first 30 minutes while the enzymes are most active. Some people recirculate during the entire mash. I find that this is what leads to a stuck mash. Recirculating for 10-15 min works great for me. I use 3 gallon carboys or the 3.5 gallon Anvil brew bucket and I’m aiming for 2.5 gallons into the keg. Usually I’m just under that volume. I found a spot in my house under the basement stairs that’s usually around 65 F. I like to ferment there with a little heat pad connected to a inkbird controller. A fermentation chamber, like a mini fridge on an inkbird, would work just as well. If your home has A/C, room temperature works for many different yeast varieties as well.
Hops & Gnarly very helpful, I’m been recirculating constantly and Yep, stuck mash. Good suggestion. I made a fermentation chamber from a mini-fridge but want to do more than one brew at a time so may get an Anvil Fermenter.
I’ve been all-grain brewing for about a year now and totally agree with the tip to check out David Heath’s channel. He has a wealth of knowledge on many different beers styles and kveik. Ive shared his work with all my buds. Keep up the great content. Cheers!
I am curious to hear how this turned out. I got send some local kveik from a Norwegian friend and planning to do a similar brew. Are you planning to post video's of a taste test how the beers you brew turned out, as I would love to see a small followup with a tasting from these recipes.
I just started posting tastings but some from season one could be skipped due to timing of when I started filming the tastings. I’d suggest maybe going easier on the juniper the first time you try this out until you know you like the flavor it adds.
I like the style of your videos. I've just subbed! Would you consider a "Grain to Glass" style video? It would be nice to know how this beer turned out. What went right/wrong? Would you change anything about the process? How does it taste?!
Thanks! I noticed you mentioned something similar on the red x ipa video and I totally get it! That’s a common format on RUclips. I’m just not a fan of that style. Plus I don’t just make one beer at a time. I have fermentations at all stages at all times lol. So I’m constantly brewing and checking on or transferring other fermentations during the down time. It’s a bigger picture than just one fermentation all the way through. I appreciate your feedback though and I hope you end up liking the episode approach. Working on better storytelling with ever video 🤘🏼🍻 Also check out some of the Gear & a Beer episodes for tasting notes and stuff like that
If this was thuja, it would definitely be bad, since it is poisonous AF, with high consentration of thujone! I thought it was this too, but googled and found out this is probably juniperus virginiana, which is different from juniperus communis, but at least it is edible.
I’d love to know how long your average brew day is. You seem to have it down to a real science. That, and I can’t imagine how filming complicates the process.
This is cool. I live in an area that has wild juniper growing everywhere I’m going to have to try this. Looking forward for your review of this. Also did you happen to taste the water before you mashed in?
Love your videos, I have an Anvil 10.5 and these are great inspiration. Do you use public numbers for your water profile or did you get a test? I'm moving to Denver next week and wondering if the water is any good for brewing.
Thanks man! Yep they had a pretty decent report online where I'm at. I've been thinking about switching to RO for the videos though. It'd be cool to provide a little more detail
I love the simplicity and quality of these videos. Only have two things to say. The Voice Over aspect is cool and all, very informative but sometimes a little bit too fake (like overexaggerating etc). And 2nd I'd love these videos to be Grain to Glass. Would be more interesting to watch if we'd get to see the whole process including result and your opinion on taste and aroma etc. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing, I'll subscribe. ;)
I like your channel and brewing styles! Excited to see where this goes! Are you ever going to do tastings and give feedback??? Also check this out ... www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/fast-souring-modern-methods.670176/ ... no need to ever do a kettle sour again!
Great job! I’ve been watching and liking vids as you have been uploading. I just watched Gear & Beer ep3 and I’d say it is a good evolution in the right direction! I like that you gave your community tasting vids when we wanted them but still are giving other content alongside for people like yourself that may not really like tasting vids. The value for us is when we get to hear “great peach nose but still lets the coriander and malt come through” so we can better judge peach lbs/gal when we want to brew with peaches. I love that you’re keeping vids short! Don’t be afraid to give us a few more angles on the gear features and more pros/cons. Maybe some a, b comp when companies start giving you equipment.
straying quite far aways from tradition with respect to the weak juniper and relatively large amount of hops but ok... the lack of a proper gjærkauk is not forgivable though 😂

Dude thanks! Appreciate the support 🍻

Dope brews. Dope videography. Keep the gnarly coming.
🤣 Love this! Thanks dude
Such an interesting brew. Some tree parts, no boil, and a mere sprinkling of yeast at crazy ferm temp. Great stuff. Wonderful camera work too.
Holy crap! Thanks for watching! 🍻

Your channel is amazing! Best home brew channel I’ve came across. Keep it up man
Thanks man I appreciate the support! 🍻
These videos are a breath of fresh air. Not too long, nicely edited and well lit. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks man!

Yes I second this!!! Please! I love all your vids !
Hops & Gnarly thanks for not just throwing the tastings in as an afterthought and waiting until you can strike the right style with the segment.
Half the joy is seeing it come out the keg, we need to see that
Another excellent video. Super cool to see you doing all of these relatively unknown styles (unknown at least to American brewers). I'm ordering an Anvil Foundry this month and looking forward to testing it out.
Thanks! Hell yea - you going 6.5 or 10.5?
@@HopsANDgnarly 10.5. All of my recipes and kegs and such are for 5 gallon batches, but the appeal of doing more, smaller batches more frequently is there.
Decided to kick my Raw Ale off today. I remembered that you did one so I needed a refresher on what you did.
That so cool. Finally recieved by 6.5 anvil foundry and cant wait to use it once I get all of my needed brew stuff! Keep up the great videos! Cheers!
I was so stoked when mine came. Have fun on your first brew!
Same set up. Doing my first brew in a few weeks with it. Saison
so excited to learn more about these farmhouse ales! I just got Lars book a few weeks ago, looking forward to digging in on these styles
Awesome! This was a strange one but a fun brew day. I’d love to get my hands on an example beer

Do you know if you happened to use Rocky Mountain Juniper? I have two bushes and can’t find a reliable source to tell me if it’s okay to use.
No I’m not sure we had to ask a neighbor that knew a lot more than me. I’d order it online if in doubt.
did your carboy spill over? Kveik can lead to a hefty Kräusen.
Yes! What a mess!
why did you use Thuja and not juniper?
I’m not sure how to respond lol. Best of luck my dude
I noticed this too. I guess it is not wrong, just different. The traditional method is to use Juniperus communis.
If this was thuja, it would definitely be bad, since it is poisonous AF, with high consentration of thujone! I thought it was this too, but googled and found out this is probably juniperus virginiana, which is different from juniperus communis, but at least it is edible.

Thanks! You totally should

Thanks for the good video. I have a question. I just got my anvil 6.5.. my question is. What electric setting do you use ? Thanks
I use 120v power with mine and I get a decent boil going
Hops & Gnarly Thank you
What wort are you using as well I couldn't see it in the description
I’m not sure if I understand the question
Hey, I've always wondered about saving liquid yeast. How do you plan on saving it and how long will it keep for? Thanks again!
The video I mentioned walks through the process of drying the yeast. There’s a link in the description if you want to check it out
