Thanks getting ready to put up fence for cattles Iam glad I came across your show. You have helped me alot I have 20 acers I want to put at least 10 acres of fence
G'day from Australia! You're such a wealth of knowledge! I've never seen barbed wire being electrified - great inspo for keeping the cows our of our dams.
This is great...I have been wanting get fenced in for 15 years but something else always takes my money...Met you guys last night on the live feed...I might can figure out how to do my fence like this...
We have the same problem don't feel bad . You don't have to use barb wire heavy smooth wire will work fine if you don't have a deer problem like we do and it's a lot cheaper ! That two stand fence is the lowest cost way you can go ! It works good and it's easy to maintain just be sure it's good and hot
They used to come with the insulators Johnny , I've never been able to use a regular nail without busting them and it makes them all easy to get back of
About Stainless Steel Dog Chain. Check with Snare Shop ( Trapping Supplies ) You can get 7x7 3/64” Stainless Steel cable for around, $19.00 Per Hundred ( 19 cents a foot ) Less on Higher Quantities. Plus Make Your Own Snares for Trapping.
You’re right, don’t make a complete loop. Electric will take the path of least resistance. So it won’t shock you if you have a continuous loop. You’re absolutely right about electric barbed wire. You have 2 lines of defense. Awesome info.👍🏻
People that have moved in around here now aren't farmer friendly at all! used to if you cows got out the neighbors helped you get them now they call the cops and act like fools . So I had to come up with something escape proof
A commonly asked question is, “Does an electric fence have to make a complete loop?” The answer is no, an electric fence DOES NOT have to make a complete loop. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to completing the fence loop. Creating a continuous loop will increase voltage on the fence line, because power is pushed in both directions. Essentially, with a continuous loop, voltage only has to travel half the distance. Even though more voltage is better, creating a continuous loop causes difficulty when fault finding a fence line. Due to the voltage traveling in two directions, a digital fault finder cannot distinguish right from left to signify where the amperage drop is located. In conclusion, only create a complete loop if it is a necessity and if you are trying to increase voltage on the fence line. blog.kencove.com/does-an-electric-fence-have-to-make-a-complete-loop/
Thanks for this one Chris. My goal is to put two beef cows in a 1/2 to 1 acre area on hay. I'm unsure if I would be mixing steers and heifers or what breeds are available in my area. I'm starting to lay out the fence lines on paper. I like the idea of using barbed wire. I have deer in the area but I don't know how they would cause problems? Am I understanding that you have a telephone pole every 60 feet and between them are two t posts 20 feet apart?
@@jimknowlton342 they run through fences constantly, that's one of the reasons we went to barbwire and the 3 foot hight easier to jump and doesn't stretch or break easily the other was cost. And no I've never seen a cow or deer get tangled in it I did have a horse get hung up because he slid under one and stuck a leg through but I cut him out without serious injury. Keeping it flagged helps a lot with the deer
How you use PVC pipe as my poles I don't have to buy insulators that way I take a pipe and drive in the ground and then I can put the PVC pipe in and it's small enough that if a horse or cow gets up against it it leans with them and springs back up before it will break my fence which will tea the electric fence on them longer and I get more shock out of it if you do this be sure and drill a hole at ground level and plug the top of the PVC pipe to keep water out of it just my idea what is 24 mama pigs on 10 acres for Year's and I've done the same thing to keep horses and cows and I have goats in right now
We use pvc pipe the same way for predator fence but unfortunately it won't take a deer running through it , just pulls put and wraps around its self and makes a tangled up mess . Our electricity goes out to often to rely on electric fences as the only thing keeping something in
My doe goat I tried setting up a small electric fence when I first got her. She went up sniffed it and blew right through the fence as soon as it hit her snapped a few insulators and everything. Train the goats when they are young. Don't expect to train an older pregnant doe when she's never done electric fences
An issue with goats is grounding that and they're just naturally hard to confine . Alternating hot and ground wires on the fence can make a big difference. I raised meat goats commercially for twenty years the best thing is use field fencing with a hot wire on the inside it'll keep them in and the neighbors dogs out
I’ve got range cattle near my property. Need to try to keep them from destroying the meadow we stay in, and chewing up anything even my American 🇺🇸 flags hanging off trailer. I’m off grid don’t want to spend alot wax thinking about using wood corner post and metal post in between need to put something as well to let truck and cars through so need gat. Probably about 600 feet any suggestions
A good solar charger and one strand of 14 ga wire would be the cheapest. A wood post every 40 foot and fiberglass every 10 to 15 and flag it good . They make gate handles where you just unhook the wire . I don't know how well that will work if you get deep snow it will short out the fence
I'm going to do a better video one day , but this is the cheapest way I've found to keep a cow in . Everybody for ten miles has copied it , the 2 strand barbwire with electricity, and like I said the deer just jump it instead of running through and tearing it down
Deer are a big problem here to , just about everyone local has gone to the two stands of Barbwire because of them like I said it's rare they tear it down
That's all I do , they won't lean with the wire pulled hand tight . They tend to rot out here in a few years if you set them in concrete, holds moisture
I don't think that's true , at least not in the U.S anyway . Several people have said it but none can back it up with an ordnance . BUT checking local regulations ( and not on facebook ! ) Is always the best idea if in doubt there's all kinds of country and township laws that can cause you problems
It'll stop them from rotting IF you put it on when you set the post . That ones about gone but I set it in concrete so it's going to be a chore to replace .
Great tips again.I'm still surprised at all the videos of people keeping pigs with electric fence. My extended family has raised hogs my whole life and they'd laugh at the thought of trusting that.
I'm going to be stringing barbwire across the front of my property soon. I was going to use 4 strand 4 barb t post 15ft but not electric. Good information, thanks. I heard 50-50 used motor oil and diesel works as a waterproofing. Think it will be okay? New sub here, your support would also be appreciated.
Glad to help ! Without electricity you probably need 5 or 6 strands of wire depends some on the cows . We use oil on most of the wood here works great on everything but the top of fence post , they rot in the center

The more of a deer problem the closer you have to put the post . Some of mines a pole every thirty and metal post every ten some is sixty and fifteen

Deer are a big problem here to , just about everyone local has gone to the two stands of Barbwire because of them like I said it's rare they tear it down
They hate the smell of human piss
So to keep the wooden posts stable from rocking I just need to to put them 3 and a half feet in the ground?
