@WhatitdoDave when I see you roll your eyes…..
Brooooo
I know we about to wrap this up 😂that bar you should stick to your reboots 😱
Stevie wonder knock her out of the water,up in the sky falling down on the biggest tree;hitting every thorn and ugly branch coming down and she ain’t getting back up 😞
That DC piano breakdown was pretty solid. I'm not musically intelligent so I gonna have to trust you on it.
Yep it's spot on haha. I remember listening to these as a kid and now I have such an appreciation for these lyrics on all the erbs now that i understand
As a guitarist I can tell you that bar was on point.
It's a triple- or quadruple-reference bar, I think:
a) referring to Stevie Wonder's song "Higher Ground", obviously
b) D->C musical step down (as the music itself is going down a scale)
c) DC Comics being a step down from, presumably, Marvel Comics
d) the one I think most people miss: "ground", "DC", and "step down" are all terms from electrical engineering - which doesn't directly connect, except that Stevie was one of the musicians who made synthesizers and other electronic instruments huge
@@zomfies he did auto tuning as well which i didnt believe until i look it myself 😞🤤😲🖖
Don't feel bad lol there's many reactors who don't get the musical reference in that bar. Dave is one of literally very few reactors I've seen catch that.
Part of the reason that the Bechdel Test line trips people up is because of the grammar. It can be a challenge to express something in a way that flows and rhymes, so sometimes the phrasing can require a bit of parsing. Think of "C-minus on the Bechdel Test" as a clause, he's saying that WW's representation just barely passes the Test. So you can reparse the line to say "WW is a misguided joke that barely passes the Bechdel Test". And, honestly, it's kind of a callback to the line from his first verse, "your first story is you running off with a guy".
That’s cool! Thanks for explaining! 👍
i meant alien 3, not alien.
Geena Davis was actress in the women's baseball movie League of Their Own. Gal Gadot was Wonder Woman actress.
Hes thinking of the older wonder woman movie. He's still wrong but I can't come up with it off the top of my head either
@@chadmarsh5356 Linda Carter. More recently she's been on Supergirl as an American president who turned out to be an alien.
@@DC_Prox thank you. I meant to look it up but got distracted with an argument from another video
@@DC_Prox I think it's actually Lynda Carter, but the right person nonetheless. Apologies for being nitpickey.
@@chadmarsh5356 It was a TV series actually, not a movie. Close though!
I ADORE that DC bar and I’m so glad you were able to appreciate it!
I think your both off on that one , Wonder Woman is from DC comics.
@@TheInfurnos double entendre
@@TheInfurnosit’s not that surface level. As most ERB lines. It’s a double entendre
5:20 That passing the mic to herself there is definitely a reference to exactly what you just talked about: Stevie doing things often considered you must be able to see to do. I think it's a reference to that one live performance where Paul McCartney accidentally knocked down the mic stand and Stevie caught it no problem. That one incident lit fuel for many a conspiracy theorist to suggest Stevie isn't blind.
really I don't think that's any different than being able to catch something without looking, he heard the impact he knew the size and weight and location of the mic so he reached for where it should have been and it was there that's just spatial awareness
@@kingmasterlord I knew a tutor of mine who blind and she tell my height, how far I was away from her(just as you say spatial reference) there was no fooling. I mean repetition does play apart in it,but so does heightened awareness
I've heard many people say that when one sense is lost, the others go into overdrive
@@frankjuggaloheathen1035 because not only does nature hate emptiness, it also hates inefficiency, so because the part of the brain that's supposed to handle sight ends up being unused, the "processing power" from it just gets repurposed for the other senses.
Also, Higher ground is a song by Stevie, such a strong line !
Nice breakdown of the DC line! The one part of that line that I have yet to see someone get is that Stevie/T-Pain is literally singing a scale downwards, in whole steps! It’s a triple!!!
That was literally the first part of the double entendre I caught instantly, wasn't even thinking about the comics part lol... only thing that irks me is that even though he says "D" on one note and "C" exactly a whole step down from the previous, he doesn't actually sing the notes D and C; he sings the note E (on "D") and the note D (on "C"). IDK, maybe it's bothering me more than it ought to because I have perfect pitch lol
@@frankjuggaloheathen1035he sounds more like he's singing from Bb to G to me
@@frankjuggaloheathen1035 literally nerd emoji lmao
Not my comment, but worth repeating:
"You got your style from Ray."
"HOW WOULD HE HAVE KNOWN THOUGH."
You're also the only reactor I've seen to catch the DC step double meaning. Well done.
Knox Hill caught it to.
Because he's not actually blind, duh
LMAO
Lilly Singh WAS the host of a late night talk show, and, before that, was a semi-popular yet controversial RUclipsr known as || Superwoman ||. There's a reason I said controversial, and it's best left unsaid.
So, the Bechdel test is a very basic test used for women in any story. To pass the Bechdel test, a story must meet a few criteria: 1. They must have at least two named women characters, 2. These two women must have a conversation with each other, and 3. The conversation can NOT be about a man. Seems like a relatively easy test to pass, but a LOT of early media struggles with it.
It's also a bunch of bullshit. Characters in a story should do what they have to to progress a story and play their role, not try to fit to some social agenda. I love strong female characters so this isn't coming from a place of guys are better than girls. It's coming from a place of a writer sick and tired of good writing being sidelined to push a political agenda, whatever that political agenda may be. ...and I know you're just explaining what the test is, just had to add my feelings on it's usefulness to the arts, which is zero.
it's a joke really.
just compare the bikini carwash company and alien 3.
@@TresTrefusis All writing is inherently political, and all characters fit a political agenda in some way. Because every writer, intentional or not, puts some of their political framework into their work.
And also, the intention of the test is not to say that all media that doesn’t pass is bad or anything. You‘re not supposed to try and pass the test while writing. That is not the point at all. It‘s just to point out how many movies, books etc. basically do not have fleshed out female characters at all. (Because let‘s be honest: A character that does not pass this test is either very minor, or not very well fleshed out).
Correct, all writing has the potential to be political, and all characters can fit a political agenda, however that does not mean that they should be changed to fit an agenda, take for instance the new Star Wars movies. Rey is one of the most underdeveloped unreasonably powerful characters in the entire series, background characters included. Lets do a character analysis here.
Leia was a far far far better representation for females than Rey was both as a character in the story and as a role model. She was a powerful strong female fighter who easily outclassed the two male leads. Within minutes of the films opening we see her valiantly resisting the empire by sneaking out a message as her ship is attacked. She then is captured and verbally spars with Vader face to face (a man who inspires terrible fear in his own men, let alone the enemy), is taken to the death star, watches her home planet destroyed and still does not break. She is rescued by the male leads, insults them when their plan falls apart and saves the day by shooting out the garbage disposal grate and diving in. After all of this she figures out before any of the male leads that The Empire let them escape and is tracking the Falcon back to the rebel base. ...and that's just the main points about her character from the first movie. She is easily the strongest emotionally, the best field leader and most inspiring of the trio (Han Luke and Leia) through the entire original trilogy.
Rey was there because Disney wanted to have the main character be female and her entire character revolved around getting to that point. They concocted this story to make her the most powerful, the last Jedi, and the writing was flimsy, clumsy and makes her easily one of the absolute worst characters in the entire franchise. Not because she was a woman lead, but because her only purpose was to be Disney's Star Wars Jedi Princess. She had no reason for being as powerful as she was, no reason for just figuring out her abilities or standing toe to toe with Kylo Ren with no training... just terrible terrible writing for the purpose of pushing an agenda. That's my point.
I could easily rewrite the sequel trilogy to make Rey a great character. The ingredients are there, but obviously pushing an agenda was far more important to Disney and the current heads of Lucasfilm than making a good movie with great characters. You can see it plain as day. I love strong female characters. I love writing them; I love seeing them. ...but not at the expense of the experience for the viewer/reader. Leia is a good rolemodel for the girls and women that watch Star Wars while also being an integral part of the story and whose abilities and standing are balanced by realistic weaknesses and all around good writing. Rey is an empty shell and that is no disrespect to her actress. It doesn't matter who played her the character itself is flawed beyond repair without a total re-write. She is an emblem of the current socio-policitcal climate and absolutely nothing more. Writing with the intent of creating a good story that is enjoyable and also presents a message within will always be more powerful than a propaganda laden mess that cares more about it's agenda than it's characters, settings or plot.
@@samiraansari5686
that's the problem.
what you are claiming the test does. it DOESNT do.
it DOES NOT tell you if a movie has fleshed out female characters at all.
for example look at alien 3 and the bikini car wash company.
the ONLY thing the joke of a test tells is if it passes the "test", but NOTHING else.
it's 100% USELESS.
"With plots so thin even i can see through." Yeah that was a nuke. It was over after that lol.
you're one of few reactors I've seen who gets the DC is a whole step down thing
Yeah, usually only musicians are gonna catch that. I don't play much piano anymore, but I learned it as a kid, so I still know a lot of theory. I mainly play guitar and bass these days.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Batman reject wonder woman and not the other way around? So her line “I let bats down easy” doesn’t make sense because she was let down and if I remember correctly, he shot her down savagely
The Bechdel Test isn't just for representation of women, but it also gauges the women's agency, how much of their actions and dialogue are independent and not just there to serve and acknowledge the men in the story.
actually the "bechdel test" is a joke. it doesnt really tell you ANYTHING about a movie.
compare the bikini carwash company and alien.
my bad, it's alien 3, not alien.
@@sabin97 Well, it's essentially a quantity test, not a quality test.
@@Quirderph
it's a joke, not a test. it tells you NOTHING other than "did it pass the 'test'?"
@@sabin97 The Bechdel test is not useful for judging individual movies with, but rather the movie industry as a whole. It's not "movie X passes the test and movie Y doesn't, so movie X is better", but rather "of the movies released last decade N% passed, but of the movies released this decade N+M% passed, so the industry seems to move in the direction of giving female characters more agency".
I'm so happy you got that DC bar! I've watched a lot of reactions and there's been a rare number of people who've gotten it.
I love T-Pain, just as a person lol
It's genuinely super cool to see you so excited about learning new things. It just seems so rare in reactors to be interested in expanding horizons. It's just awesome to watch
I've watched most reactions to ALL of the currently released ERB and I've watched this at least 30 times without reactions and thus aint even my favourite. Not even top 10. But shit I never caught that D to C musical scale step down bar...Shit!. Dave really about his shit. I rate that...
Dave as a gentleman from the United Kingdom (of fuck ups) I would like to say...
You sir earned a sub!
First time I caught the Princess Diana line.
For those who don’t know Princess Diana was a Princess beloved in England. She died in a car “accident” after going into a tunnel.
they say the last thing that went through her mind.....was the radio XD
You got a better memory then me. If I did a reaction channel I'd probably do the same video 3 times in 6 years.
It’s a bit tough haha. If I’m unsure I usually just search my archive. Takes about 5 seconds
Geena Davis is an actress from the baseball movie called "A League of Our Own" The Wonder Woman actress named is Gal Gadot
i didnt think id learn new bars i didnt catch from all these vids, that DC is a whole step down had me rolling
I wonder if Stevie has seen this battle?
You already knew someone was going to make that joke. I regret nothing!
WW's Tiara doubled as a boomerang in the comics and maybe in the mall fight in WW 1984?
This is one of my favorite ERB’s to see reactions of because the stars on your panties and plots so thin even I can see through lines always have people losing their shit and it’s beautiful
The piano thing killed it lol
Dude loving the videos your reaction to Clint Eastwoods second round still has me laughing so good man. Have you seen T pains twitch stream intro its well worth a watch its so good. Keep it up dude i love your content.
The DC line is so typical for ERB. If you have a hunch that there's a second and third meaning behind the bar, there is.
No, Gina Davis played in a movie called a league of their own, it was an all woman's baseball team in WW2. Wonder Woman was played by three women not including the voice actors. Gal Gadot, Linda Carter and Cathy Lee Crosby.
One of the best erb in my opinion
Dave: "wrap it up."
Me: in a BODYBAG....
Nice catch on the DC
nice reaction ❤
I never got the DC Bar before!! that's pretty damn good.
Finally did it !
"You cant fit in my shoes, so stick to your re-boots" Damn bro I didn't see that one coming 💀
Wonder Woman: Crisis on Infinite Mics
~_~
DC Current in an electrical sense is also considered "inferior" AC Current.
not exactly inferior.
both have different uses.
ac is much better for transmission.
but almost every electronic device you use, works on dc.
So, Linda Carter was WW. Gina Davis was in "A League of Their Own". It's a play in The Justice League and that movie. Her character was the best player in that movie.
What Stevie Wonder is saying about the dc bar is that he is like dare devil from marvel and if you watch the movies daredevil is usually up on a rooftop hence higher ground
Gal Gadot plays Wonder Woman in the new movie. Geena Davis was in a movie called “A League of Their Own” about the professional women’s baseball league during WWII.
One of my favs
I think you looking things up during is awesome by the way. Some people may not know anything about what you look up either and everyone learns something!
Gina Davis was in the movie a league of their own one of the few really good girl power movies that just shows badass women instead of saying they are badass women. It's about fighting female stereotypes thus it relates to wonder woman.
You're one of the only people I've seen who got the DC music scale bar.
Geena Davis starred in the movie "A League of Their Own"
The suffering Sappho bar is about Sappho she was the first recorded lesbian poet from ancient Greece and they named a whole ass Greek island after her so basically he's comparing her to Sappho (in the sense of romantically and sexually loving women) and saying that Sappho would be suffering if she heard the bars that wonderwoman was dishing out and I honestly have to side with him on that one even though I be a lesbian
Um, they didn't name the island after Sappho. The island was named Lesbos long before Sappho was born, and it's still called Lesbos today.
But yeah, that's why the words lesbian and Sapphic exist.
Its also one of wonder womans catchphrases. Used in the really old version from the 70s and I beleive some comics.
Re-boot line is referring to comic book reboots that restarts universes basically every other year.
this was a more one sided BodyBagging than Skrillex vs Mozart or Beethoven vs Beber.
Seems to me, C minus is the grade scale for Bechdel test, not musical scale., which means stevie dissed that wonder woman nearly failed the Bechdel Test.
This is the battle of the Wonders Woman vs Stevie
Bro took it very personal when she talk about his family
pmsfl dave you rock

Stevie wonder sent wonder woman back to Themyscira in a coffin
Look that fact that you actually caught the dc step down bar makes up for the fact that you called it the dc marvel cinematic universe. But tread carefully sir 😠😂
He wrapped it up with a mic drop lol.
Over 1400 reactions 😲 wow, I missed many of them 😔 my apologies for missing so many 😓 I have a question... have you seen star wars vs. star trek battle?
On the star wars / star trek topic... your opinion... which is better... the Jedi mind trick or the Vulcan mind meld? That would be an epic battle 😎
Sometimes ERB gives certain sides a noticeable number of bars more than their opponents in these battles. Sometimes, also, certain sides, when it is their turn to rap for a given round, have their turn last noticeably longer than others.
That was so freaking funny
Gina Davis was in a female baseball movie back in the 90's called League of My Own.
i didn't know the think with the piano so i feel a little educated
ok that's a bar
So that DC bar is actually a triple. Washington DC was built on low swampland.
Geena Davis NEVER played Wonder Woman, that was Lynda Carter. Geena Davis was, however, in the movie "A League of Their Own". This was a rare miss for you.
Stevie all the way with this one.
Hi! Really enjoy your reactions and recently subscribed. I don't know if you have heard or reacted to this but if not you should react to 2020 Phase 1 Cypher it was put together by Epic Lloyd from ERB!
I Hate to be this way. But, everyone should have known this was over as soon as they seen T-Pain.
jezus :D, i actually forgot Lily Singh was Wonder Woman in this one....

I think stevie won.

I wonder if even a blind person could see that Stevie won this battle.
Take it from me stevie your like bruce jenner leaving kids behind
The bechdel test is a measure of female representation in fiction. All it measures is if two women have a conversation and how many times women have a conversation, and that conversation is about something other than a man. It is also required that the female characters be named (sometimes). It's not full proof but its an okay start.
Wonder woman did not measure well on the bechdel test. Hence getting a C-
