I have to say you guys give the best info on dvcfan. I watches your videos before i ever considered purchasing. And i ended up going resale because the savings were so much better than the discounts that could go at anytime. I ended up buying a contract with 280 points with like 215 left in the bank at animal kingdom lodge. With the contract im able to go a second time this year and still have 200 points to bank.
I’m not A DVC member. I’m looking to buy 300 points for Aulani. Should I split my purchase resale and direct? What percentage of direct points do I need to get full member benefits?
When I first purchased DVC I wanted to buy at Grand Californian. At the time you could not even get on a waiting list to buy directly from Disney. So depending on your choice of home resort, resale might be your only viable option.
Recognize that price per point is only a small part of the lifetime cost of a contract. Once you add in decades of maintenance fees the price percentage difference is far less. But, if you want a small contract or an older resort, resale might be your only option. We bought resale primarily because we wanted to test it out and so bought a small 50 point contract. That’s impossible direct. And there aren’t really many good perks with direct right now. In the future I can see us buying direct, especially if the incentives are good. This past year, there have been some great discounts buying direct.
Paul, you provide great info. Love it. Can you look to do a future dvc 101 on multiple contracts and the 11 month booking windows. For example, I own 400 Oct use year at SSR. If I look to add on 50 points at BLT. When the 11 month window hits for BLT, am I able to book with both contract’s points or am I only limited to the BLT points at 11 month and have to wait until the 7 month window to use SSR points.
Appreciate your show and information, but i think it is incorrect to say that the end game on direct sale benefits is that they have only one way to go, which is away. You nor I can say if they are going away, staying or growing. One thing for sure is, DVC is dwindling away at perks a resale buyer one had.
We have resale points. Is Top of the World Lounge still available to resale members? (2024)

We have 2 DVC resale contracts. The cost savings was worth the extra time going resale.
Thank heavens for Resale 🙏
Great job, Paul!

Hi Scott, your 11 month window is only for the resort you bought at. Your BLT points will only be able to book 7 months out at SSR.
