I had the privilege to ride the Caledonian Sleeper train and had the most amezing experience. Wonderful sleep room implacable clean and the best coffee in the morning. Staff was very attentive and professional. My favorite .
I did the same trip in the early 1980s, pulled by a class 47. I was amazed to count some 15 coaches in that train, seems much more than any platform could take!
the usual load was 16 coaches and class 47, i did a couple runs up to inverness, both times the 47 crawled up slochd, 47 was on full power, 8 coaches and class 67 now.
Very rare for anything to run through Manchester Piccadilly without stopping - also both trains this one and the Transport for Wales were running in same direction on the pair of tracks, one is the up and one is the down usually, though I believe both do have bi directional signalling, if not often used in this way.
That was excellent !!! It's going to be a bummer when the MK'5 come out on this train and you can't open the windows on them:(:(:( Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
Nice.Trouble is first class on the new c.s.is soooo expensive, even with my railcard.Nice shot of Kings Lsngley anc the M25 actually moving anticlockwise around 8.30am.
@@leemingmerlin Hotel on flat wheels. On successive nights the new sleeper carriages suffered from Wheel flats. Its all in my rail magazine. The old carriages at least run.
Great job, nice journey. I didn't know that this train doesn't stop on Manchester Piccadilly!! ¿Isn't it a bit strange that the train were pulled by a freight locomotive? Wonderful video.
the freight locomotive is hired from freightliner, it is classed as a dual locomotive for passenger and freight, there is not much else about to pull this train, any of the current diesel locomotive in the UK will likely blow up pulling this train at their maximum speed and there is very few electric locomotives available to replace the class 90s.
Yes, that's the problem when at least the 90% (or more) of the british trains are self-propelled... No need to have many electric locomotives. For me, the trains pulled by a locomotive always are the most beautiful to see. That's why I love the Caledonian videos!
Great footage! For some reason I thought the Mk2/3s were no longer in service! Also surprised to see they are still hiring in FL 90s for power. I was expecting it would all be Mk5s and 92s by now!....nice to see the old BR stock is still going strong.
Being a resident of the US,I'm not familiar with British passenger rail--is the the consist normally that long, approximately 15 cars or is that because of summer travel? Until the very end at Euston,it seemed you were the only one on board! I love how you're able to board using a door of your choice without an attendant's help. Interesting that your breakfast wasn't included in the fare, choices didn't look terribly appetizing, not sure what it would cost in USD.How late were you in arrival?
Usually about 15/16 and frequently fully or almost fully booked. It will have been around 6/8 from Inverness, then a few from Aberdeen and a few from Fort William in the far corner of Scotland. All joined up to form one long train from Edinburgh. Then in the opposite direction they split 3 ways. There's also one that's just to Glasgow and Edinburgh, dividing up in south Scotland
So how did this trip go? Unless I’ve gone deaf there was no narration! Looks like you might’ve been rather late judging by the fact it was daylight before you even got to Manchester! I did the Fort William sleeper four years ago and it was absolutely hellish! Three hours late and hardly any sleep! You couldn’t pay me to do that again!
sorry what about some comments on thrip lile what for brekky how was thenigh ant u only showe on eplace name what about all trghe other places pull ur finger out.

Done that trip twice. Absolutely Superb!. The petrol Station always makes me want to go back from Melbourne, Australia.

That rear facing view from the rear gangway door is brilliant. Pity that's about the only thing you can do it from now.

Excellent full length shots of the train. About what time did you get into Manchester? It's usually at Crewe for about 5.20am.
Nice video. the only thing missing was a nice 86 or 87 to haul you to London.👍🏼
I agree! I'd have loved 87002 to drop on the front.
Just after Manchester Piccadilly, before Stockport, you were within half a mile of mine lol. Great video.
Great job, nice journey.

¿Isn't it a bit strange that the train were pulled by a freight locomotive?
Wonderful video.
It was diverted via Manchester due to engineering work at Acton Grange Junction, south of Warrington and would not normally see Manchester at all!
Understood. Thank you!

perthdave100 Get 2 class 37 pulling it . Wishful thinking.

They've had a lot of issues with the mk5's... & the 92's for that matter
mk2/mk3s not expected to be in service by the end of this year.

@Sleeper Train Fan That's what I said, pal
Seeing the locomotive reminds me of the song Deutsche bahn, deutsche bahn

Read the description! 2 hours late due to lightning strikes in Cumbria.

i enjoyed this. cheers
Me and my dad are going on it to fort William from London
Surprised the sleepers are still running these days. They can’t possibly be viable!
Nice footage 👍
Hi lovely video ,but lot missing changing locos stations, kev philpines
You've got a good zoom on your camera.
Cool train not the same as an airplane but still interesting:)
1:40 Caledonian Sleepers
No crap. It’s not as if this video isn’t about it.
very rare to see two trains heading to the same direction between Piccadilly and oxford road.
It is indeed! Parallel race between Oxford Rd & Piccadilly. Scottish Train, meets Welsh train. In England!
only happens Off-Peak - it gets a bit manic during morning and evening peak times!
Would be useful to know the stations as the train passes through.
12:28 is Bolton if that's any help
How delayed was the service you were on as it wasn't mentioned, but it looked to be at least a few hours?
Read the description for flip sake
It was in the description. Arrived into Euston just under 2 hours late.
Apologies. I wrote that at 0130am and was tired, and didn't see you had written a lot more in the description than just the first two lines.
I drove Inverness home in 6 hours. Less aggravation that that thing
At least you had the good old Mk 3s. They ought to send that Mk 5 crap back to the makers until they can make it work reliably,.
They dont care if you just open these windows and film?? Amtrak would never allow that
Interesting wrong line manouvre at Oxford Road.
Think it is bi directional just not usually used in the opposite direction
