    ---------------------------------------
    In this clip, Rickey Smiley talked about his children, stating that he has 2 biological kids but has raised around 15 kids in total. Rickey broke down how he found out about his first son six years after his birth. He said that the situation worked out with the mother and he was able to build a relationship with his son who eventually came to live with him.
    Later on, Vlad questioned Rickey Smiley about disciplining kids. Rickey detailed why he believes in physical discipline pointing to structure, respectability, and clearly demarcating the line of authority from parent to child.

    Do I hold some resentfulness towards whoppings I got as a child? Yes. Did the help put me in line and got me to where I am today? HELL YES! That's why kids are so messed up today; NO DISCIPLINE!

      There's a difference between abuse and discipline. Not to throw in the race card, but I think it needs to be brought up due to different people being raised differently.
      I know as a black man, a lot of people from my past grew up with fear of consequences because if your parent didn't whoop you then another family member would. I was never hit unless I was out of line or did something I shouldn't have been. I did knew some people who NEVER received disciple and most of them are not doing so hot right now; jail, multiple kids, no job, etc.
      I'm not saying it is IMPOSSIBLE to be a generally good and successful person as you grow up without physical disciple, but that was just how I was raised. I just turned 27 last month and I have no kids or a wife. I do sometimes think about how I'll raise kids (if I ever have any). Will I do what my parents did? Not entirely because there are some things I wish were different. Overall, I was taught that certain actions had certain consequences.

    • @doresrules28
      @doresrules28 6 лет назад +12

      @Fidel chavez No, the military would just run you until you threw up. Literally break you mentally with drills as discipline. A football coach would run you or put you thru drills and if that does not work both of those institutions have the ability to let you go. Surely we aren't suggesting kids be let go by parents? There certainly are other means of discipline parents can instill but I would rather a parent whoop their child than allow the judicial system to.

    I am 52 yrs. old and I totally agree with Rickey 100%...I truly think this age we live in now is lost & it has alot to do with "people doing away with old school discipline." It seems like nowadays respect is a thing of the past and that is so sad & unfortunate. Granted-Time out works but its not for everyone. And people don't seem to understand that what may work for your kids may Never Work for my kids. If we don't discipline our children (as we see fit) its a strong possibility the penal system will handle them for you! Bottom line...We can discipline our kids or we can wait and let the police knock em around...and trust me they dont mind doing it for you...JMO

    You must hold your kids accountable for their actions, or inactions, because if not. They'll grow up not respecting authorities, who will hold them accountable, and it could cost more than what they're willing to pay . It's enforcing what we teach them, so that they'll adopt our principles in what is right, and what's wrong. I tell my 15 year old son all the time, that I have the physical advantage on him right now. I also let him know I'd rather talk to him to get my point across, but he knows I will put my hands on him, and at his age he doesn't get ass whoopings, he gets ass kickings. Better you hold em accountable, before some trigger happy racist cop does. Just my 2 pennies....

    I totally agree with Rickey Smiley some children's has to be discipline in some form or another, if you don't when they become early teenagers they start to run the house and some parents are so afraid of their kids children. It got to that point due to the fact how they was raised if there were in a abusive home environment they say I don't want to beat my children because I got beat, yes there is a way to discipline your kids without physically hurting them and sometimes you have to put a little physical threat in them to let them know who has Authority in the house especially with today's society and social media raising Children's today has to come with a deeply thought-out plan.

    Y’all do know people respond to different things right? We are not a monolith. While some people may not like whoopings, some kids respond to it and need it. Others learn lessons from taking the cell phone away. Doesn’t make one wrong and the other right.

      Definitely agree parents need to know their kids as a person and learn what discipline works best for their child. Also they need to analyze what type of parents they are. Some parents have the respect of their kids to the point where even if they make a mistake by do something wrong, a serious talk with their child will set them straight not a whooping.

    Discipline and Structure, spare the rod, you will spoil the child. So many parents are afraid of their kids, the kids talk back, the kids feel entitled. How a child can lie on a parent, do all kinds of things and nothing is done, but If the parent discipline them out of love to correct the behavior then the parent gets in trouble. This system is so backwards. Yep I was disciplined and all my siblings and noon are in jail, on drugs or dead and my mom raised all of us on her own (6) kids. Thank u Rickey.
