I liked Todd's tip for adding bleach. Drain some water from your water house. Pour the proper amount of bleach into the hose end. Put hose end in the tank fill. Turn on water. So easy. No funnel. No pitcher. Whether this works depends on your RV's setup.
Just one thing. The correct way to mix acid, or any chimical and water, is to put the bleach into the water, and not the water into the bleach, as you said in step one
I worked in a lab for several years analyzing chemical mixtures. Adding water to acids can result in a violent chemical reaction. Always add chemicals to the water. Also never add chemicals to bleach. This can actually release a poisonous gas. Bleach and water are fine.
I bought used and did not get any documentation. However, I was able to find the camper manual and individual appliance and equipment manuals at the RV manufacturer's web site. I downloaded PDF copies and printed them, punched them, and then assembled them in a big D-ring binder. I keep the binder in a cabinet in the camper. It really helps get up to speed on operation and troubleshooting.
You did Not explain that you need to run both the hot and cold separately till you smell the bleach. You don't have to empty the tank by running the life out of your pump. After you let it sit overnight run each hot and cold separately then just dump the fresh tank. You can then flush and fill the tank with fresh water then run the fixtures to flush the bleach. And don't forget to run the Low Point drains as well 👍
Great tips! The reason I don't usually recommend people drain their fresh water tanks using the low point drains after this treatment is because most people would do that just onto the street. We don't really want bleach going down the storm drains. Its not great for the environment. Remember - Only Rain Down the Drain! XP But if someone has a safe way to do so, then yes that would be a much faster way to go about this.
Another way to find info is to Google your RV brand and model. I found websites for 2 owners clubs that had links to old sales literature. I found a page that listed dimensions and capacities and saved the pdf to my phone. Now I can have quick access any time I need it.
My RV has a tankless hot water heater, I am also hooked up to a freshwater system so I don’t need to bleach my tank out that often and I live in Florida
I've been using Camco's drinking water freshener last couple of seasons. Put about 2 ounces of it in my fresh water hose before filling the tank. Have any experience with that?
Ooof. Somebody’s coming in HOT today. Most of the data plates I’ve seen don’t have the size of the fresh water tank on them. But if yours does that’s awesome! Happy RVing!
Everyone has their own theories when it comes to black tanks. Almost all of my black tank knowledge comes from Sue at Royal Flush RV. She's awesome. She recommends keeping your black tank closed until they are pretty full so that way there is enough pressure to help move things out when you go to dump your tanks. A good tank treatment helps liquify everything and prevent buildup. If you keep your tanks open all the time there isn't any pressure to help get things out and you're going to have build up anyway. Just my two cents but I definitely do not specialize in black tanks.

I sterilize with vodka. One for the RV tank, one for me, one for the tank, one for me………..😂
Yes, and when I pass out, I’m done

Safety first. Great tip!

Good point regarding flushing the Grey tank because the chlorine will kill the "good" bacteria. Never thought about that. Thanks
I’m with Brad Wanted to Comment for YT Stuff. Also I subbed I love the way you explained this looking forward to viewing all of your videos!

Great information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

Can you make a video on how to winterize my RV?
I get how important this is, but here in California (chronically drought-stricken), it's painful to pour out 240+ gallons of fresh water.
Drive your RV somewhere there is more water unless you are too green to use the gas
But then why would you have an RV

Great video I have a 2018 Jayco eagle HT fifth wheel my question is when you have a tankless water heater What procedure do I do thank you
Thank You
what about the outdoor shower...do we run the bleach solution through that as well or not? we're total newbies so sorry for the silly question
bleach! next!
How often should clean your fresh water tank like this?
Gray and Black Rv tanks are Holding Tanks.
You should never Treat them like a Septic System.
comment for YT algorithm
Thanks Brad!
That is a LOT of bleach! 1/4 cup in 60 gal would be plenty.
Or you could just check your rv data plate for the volume of your water tank. You would think she would know this.

Not listed on mine.
No “data plate” on mine. Everyone doesn’t have your type of RV.
No data plate on my 5th wheel that shows the tank volume. I did Google my model, and found the volume from the old advertising
I was told not to use your black tank as a septic tank because it builds up in there. You should never use your black tank like a septic tank.
