  • What is the method for prostate cancer screening? PSA, or prostate specific antigen, is the most common test to screen for prostate cancer. While PSA is prostate specific, it is not prostate cancer specific. This simple test MAY lead to a high number of prostate biopsies, some of which are unnecessary. It doesn't matter if your PSA is in normal range, Because you could still have cancer. But a really high PSA level is likely a indicator of cancer being present. I recently had a transrectal ultrasound prostate biopsy, And it certainly wasn't pleasant but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. The probe going in was the worst part for me the needles going in was just pressure I felt. I had no urination blockage, No pain afterwards, No blood in my urine, No constipation, No infection, No blood clots, Overall it wasn't a big deal. I'm still waiting to see my results because my PSA level was 28.9 and my MRI was inconclusive. So I had the biopsy, they took 14 core samples and it was done in less than 10 minutes.

Get a PSA test every year at 50 years and older.
Reason I am saying this is because my husband got prostrate cancer. He did not follow up with the Urologist like I told him 2 years ago. He did not listen to me to go back I’m not happy at all after 27 years ugh.

My PSA came in high at the last checkup. Although I do not have symptoms of prostate cancer, I just had a biopsy done. Waiting on results.

Ever study all the things that raise the PSA other than Prostate Cancer?
Exercise, different foods, alcohol and stress are a few items!

Any inflamation in the body will raise PSA. Covid19 vaccine will ruin prostate.

Has anyone here actually had this test? My urologist just ordered it for me, and told me that I take it to a lab. But I read online that it involves a digital rectal exam, which I’m skeptical they perform at a lab.

Is this better than getting a biopsy?

If you can you should try and avoid a biopsy. I had one recently and developed complications. If I had heard about this exodx product, i would have not done a biopsy!

Look I’m a retired interventional radiologist. I’ve done thousands of biopsies and I had a prostate biopsy 10 years ago. Yes they’re invasive. But this guy is overstating the risks to sell his product. Risks of bleeding and infection are ALWAYS present with any biopsy. But biopsy looks directly at the tissue and doesn’t rely on blood or urine tests. So it’s a balancing act. I’m guessing risks of severe side effects are 5-10% max. It’s usually the gold standard. But PSA may be wildly inaccurate. So this test has a role but you may eventually need a biopsy anyway.

ExoDx is a test to help determine whether you should get a biopsy. 15.6 is the cutoff: that number or above, a biopsy is recommended; below 15.6, watch and wait or active surveillance.
