It definitely needs bright colors & interiors. Imola Red over Caramel or Ametrin over Champagne would look great on the new M8, especially with the bright work. I agree regarding the M850i, BMW's line of x50 cars has gotten so good, it makes you wonder whether a full fat M variant worth the extra 40-50k or not. As always excellent work, M.
Well at least he mentioned people need training for there cars... wouldn't be surprised if they made a class on your licences... too many people dont know how to fast cars,
MotomanTV: Does your opinion change on this car when you factor in a nearly $30,000 discount on the M8C's hood? I just did this on the exact car you reviewed. I cannot wait to take advantage of the M-Driver's school as this car actually scares me a bit. It launches like it is being shot off an aircraft carrier! This is my fourth M car and it is amazing.
Was the M8 noticeably stiffer than the M850i? I loved the comfort of the M850i and don’t want the M8 if it’s much stiffer. However, love the 4 tail pipes and the 3 second 0-60?
I bet the M8, which is a fat and heavy GT, will be faster around track than the Audi R8, which is a true super car from the ground up. What BMW does is really out of this world engineering.. Damn.
bmw they don't care anymore... they see it as line up they need to fill.... it mainly for profit it pretty much a sclass coupe amg... heavy and all it can do s long gt ride whch why would you do it in that engine? burn fuel like no tomorrow.
campkira The M8 is about 1,400lb lighter than a S class coupe.. and unlike the S class it can go fast in the straight and the track at the same time. BMW says it’s faster than a M4 GTS on the Nurburgring, which means it’s faster than a lot of Supercars now even on the track
I’d probably go with the M850i or perhaps even the 840i with its wonderful I6 engine. Just wish you kinda could delete the limiter on M850i or it being an “M Performance” car, just raise it a little more, cuz with that much power it tops out 160MPH way too quickly.
You are right - there is a kinda mid engine superlookingcar from BMW on the market though. Don´t expect a new M1 anymore - the next supercar will be electric, like everybody.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 i was expecting the M8 to be the supercar but was disappointed. BMW don't build supercars. The only thing close to "supercar" was Z8 and the i8 but they weren't. The CEO admits they are not in the business of making supercars... i am still hoping they do.
Why are they using torque converter instead of double clutch? I assume the same reason why the timing components are on the back side - to bankrupt a fool who buys it after the warranty expires
I think the M Drivers package is a track day / school, maybe a top speed software update. Delete you covered it Moto-man, next time I’ll finish watching to the end.
To me this 8 Series Coupe fails on all the most important points that made the original E31 such an amazing car and a classic. They say it's in the luxury segment but it's nowhere near the luxury and refinement of the S Class Coupe / AMG S 65 Coupe and the 8 is noticeable smaller in size. The interior on the 8 Coupe is a joke compared to the S-Coupe interior. And the original E31 8 Series was known for it's V12 and no B pillar and this F9 8 Coupe doesn't have a V12 option at all and it has a friggin B pillar. The 8 Coupe doesn't even have a sunroof option. And the original 8 Coupe had almost a supercar look to it and this looks nice but nowhere near like a supercar but much more like a 4 series. I think this should have competed against an R8 in looks and performance or really gone against the S-Coupe in beauty and luxury but it's so far away from both it hurts. To me the S65 Coupe is the true successor to the E31 850Csi.
Great review - you know really what you are doing - driving and tech. Its always good to hear your opinion. The M8 Competition is the last hurrah of the old world cars - dinosaurs - it got too big and too heavy to my taste. Must be a blast for long distances though.
Yep its a porker. I mean that in the nicest way possible. BMW has almost done the impossible and turned a tank into a clone of the OG M2. Not really. 4200 pounds is still 4200 pounds and then BMW is also trying make it luxurious at the same time. I see what they are doing here. They fail at making it a serious track car but hope you enjoy the luxury and forget the sporting pretense. I suppose it is a strategy but I’m not falling for it. Having said that, its still an awesome car.

yeah white seat.. if you willing to paid extra you can change plastic dash to leather as well....

No no no my good man
@@esthetics4512 I was correct. The M8 makes faster laps and is faster on straights as well.
Hey Motoman. What's the name of the song at 2:22? I know you have the credits, but those artists have a lot of music. Thanks in advance.
I feel like for 160k you can do better
Yes - A 2020 Carrera 4S.
You can also buy one hell of an airplane for that same money:)

Why all these options on a car that is considered to be a flagship?
Previous 8 series was packed. Guess marketing changed
As a current M850 GC owner, I just could not justify the 40 k more for the M. In every day driving the differences are just too margnal.
A solid 5 mpg!!!
This beast still doesn't have timeless style and fluid design like a 633CSI.
Or e31
It's best new super coupe in a long time. If it's too much you're too old.
Enough with the front engine cars Bmw...time for mid engine supercar...

This is quick enough to compare to most supercars

Looks like a Mustang GT. The roof line, doors, rear quarter windows, rear haunches, etc.
Agreed
Not a bad thing
I’d rather the M2 Competition, I’ll save myself nearly 100k and have more fun. M8 is a beauty though.
yup - m8 is too porky
More fun is subjective, but the M8 will smoke the M2 in any race
tunis5000 don’t listen to me. I’m biased cuz I’ve been in the M2C for about 6 months now.
that V8 tho
Sedan M5 base and add JB4. Save 60k

Great example of diminishing returns. There's just not enough special about this car.
M8 GC looks better than the Coupe to me. But if it's my money, I'd do M850i GC. This is too heavy for tracks and too much power for highway.
i’d get an m5 over the m8
Lexus lc 500 for me I'll save the 50 grand.
