Rice Beer and Hut Food in Majuli | റൈസ് ബിയറും കുടിൽ രുചികളും മാജൂളിയിൽ

When we traveled to Northeast India for a bike ride, we visited one of the largest river islands in the world - Majuli Island. On the island, we had a chance to visit a hut and enjoy rice beer with some hut flavors. Rice beer was pretty much like a toddy mixed rice soup.
പണ്ട് ഞങ്ങൾ നോർത്ത് ഈസ്ററ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ബൈക്ക് റൈഡ് പോയപ്പോൾ ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പുഴ ദ്വീപുകളിൽ ഒന്നായ മാജൂളിയിൽ പോയിരുന്നു. അവിടെ ഒരു ചെറിയ കുടിലിൽ പോയപ്പോൾ അവർ ഉണ്ടാക്കി തന്ന റൈസ് ബിയറും കുടിച്ചു അവരുടെ രുചികളും ട്രൈ ചെയ്തു. റൈസ് ബിയർ കുടിക്കുമ്പോൾ കള്ള് കഞ്ഞിവെള്ളത്തിൽ കലക്കി കുടിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഫീൽ ആയിരുന്നു. എങ്കിലും അത് ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ഫീൽ ആയിരുന്നു.

I am so fascinated by the tranquil beauty of the places in Northeast India that I went there not once, but twice. Our first trip was by car, while the second was a bike ride. Northeast bike ride was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I was with my friend, Vineeth. During the trip, we visited Majuli, which is the largest river island in the world.
Though the largest, Majuli is reducing in size with every passing year due to the onslaught of mighty Brahmaputra river. Still, the island is so huge that we keep wondering whether it is actually an island. It was in this island that we had a pleasant village food experience.
I am always curious to taste local dishes whenever I got to new places. This is how we ended up in a hut for tasting their local cuisine. The hut stood on wooden poles and had a rustic charm to it. An old lady with a toothless grin welcomed us to the hut. Though we didn't understand her language, her smile told us that we were very much welcome in her house. There were two more people who helped her with cooking.
We tasted pork curry and rice beer from the hut. Pork curry was totally different from the ones we make in Kerala. It had potatoes, and a crushed mixture of ginger, chilies and other things. Although they use less spices for their curries, the chilies gave it a super hot taste. I was totally happy with pork curry.
I understood that rice beer is not taboo for them. It is something that is made in every household. I had tasted it before, during my previous trip to Nagaland. I tasted it again, and it was just the same. It tasted like rice soup mixed with toddy. It was not very intoxicating also. Watch the unique food experiences in this video.
