  • The Battle of Saipan was one of the most violent and decisive battles of the Pacific War in WWII. Located in the Mariana Islands, Saipan was to be the first target in a larger campaign codenamed Operation Forager. One secured, this and the islands of Guam and Tinian would put the U.S. B-29 bombers in range of the Japanese home islands. But before the first Marine would step foot on Saipan, there were other Americans who were on this island. But not by choice.
