Hey Anda! Thanks for taking your time to answer all the questions. And for being so passionate about books. You're honestly becoming one of my favourite booktubers!
I, for one, enjoyed the “Guess Who?” Game video. I thought it was fun for something a little different. 🤷🏼♀️ And not “Leprechaun” with a St. Patty’s Day birthday! I’ve been in the hospital and you answering my question made my day. 🥰
Watching this I really felt like I was apart of a group call just chatting with friends. Thank you for being so personable and passionate about what you do it shines through your videos. Cant wait for you to be able to nourish your writing as I would love to read your work.
For the person asking about Ray Bradbury: You may like any of the unrelated collections of his short stories, such as "100 stories". For other writings, you should check out the collection called "Shadow Show", in which all the stories are in celebration of Bradbury, and very "Bradbury-esque" in nature. Also, Joe Hill is an unabashed super fan of Ray Bradbury, and some of his books have a Bradbury feel to them. My favorite Joe Hill is still "Horns". Great movie, even better novel.
I would LOVE the series of ranking your fav authors books! Chuck Palahniuk, Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, Ray Bradbury, Clive Barker.... all of these and more! That would be a blast, hope to see them soon
Hey Anda! Another great video, and thanks so much for answering my long-winded question! 😉 You have quickly become one of my fave Booktubers. I really enjoyed the Horror Guess Who video: it was so fun seeing you in your geeky Horror element!
I cant wait for "The Wordless Book." The blurb sounds exciting and creepy. His artwork is neat. Not really sure of the release date though but I'm keeping my eye out.
Thank you so much for the time you put into all of your videos! This was an awesome hour long that I know it must have taken a lot of time to complete. You are so appreciated in the horror book community ❤ also the Guess Who? Video was awesome! I really hope you continue to do more board game videos, it was a fun spin and a cool bit of variety for the channel. Thanks for answering all my questions 😊
Thank you for the kind comment and letting me know! Sometimes it's difficult to judge what people will like. I'll definitely do more games in the future.
I love that you are into horror especially extreme horror. You remind me of my adult daughters. We love to watch horror movues whenever we get together. A good scifi horror I just read with crazy AI is a book by David Wellington called Paradise 1. Someone asked about witch books. A great read although not overly scary is Ann Rice's The Witching Hour.
It was wonderful getting to know you better. I love your channel and have rarely missed a video. It sounds like you had a very special relationship with your Mom. She would be so proud of you! ❤
Thank you so much for making this video, Anda! I LOVE your channel so much. You have a fantastic personality and excellent taste in books. I'm reading The Terror right now because of you. I love it! I'm so sorry to hear about your nightmare of a cat. I hate that she's ruining your experience in owning them. It sounds to me like she is suffering from a condition called Pica. These cats crave non-food items, and it can be detrimental to both them and you. I seriously recommend taking her to the vet and putting her on some kind of anxiety medication. This will save you both a lot of misery. I sure hope you find some peaceful resolution very soon. Thanks again :)
I'm so glad you are enjoying The Terror! And thank you for the suggestion. We took her to the vet last year and got a bunch of blood work and tests done (she was sensitive to some cleaning products we were using so we had to change a bunch of stuff) and everything came back normal. I love her, but I do think she might just be the embodiment of evil haha.
@@AndaKent I totally understand. I've had a few evil cats too. Lol. I guess they just are sometimes, aren't they? Best of luck. And, yes. I've found a great audiobook version of The Terror here on you tube. It's great to listen to with some instrumental creepy background music, too. I'm only about half way through, but it's absolutely terrific thus far. Cheers :)
Omg!! You unlocked a memory for me, I also read the Bailey School Kids books and I loved them! I can’t believe I forgot about that. I love your vids btw, thanks for posting so regularly! ❤
Witchy books - I second Slewfoot, also Lolly Willowes ( I guess it would count as a classic) , the Manningtree Witches, Circe, We Ride Upon Sticks (not quite a favorite).]
Ik I should have said this a while ago bc I started watching You maybe a month ago, but I really love your videos, you're my favorite booktuber BY FAR, your subject matter is always interesting but the vibe of your videos is light and fun, i love it and am always excited for your uploads ❤️
For me personally I would love board game videos because I just recently made the guess who game you made!!! It was awesome and a fun different video!🩷
It is funny to hear that you felt you were exposed to horror movies too young, I've always felt the same way, watching Nightmare on Elm Street when I was 8 or 9 and never stopping from there. Couldn't imagine my kids, around that same age now, doing the same 😂
I agree with the Stephen King listing you said. Omg I have one ever flipped through a book once and it wasn't a genre that I normally would read and i was getting bored with it ... I finished the book and felt like it was a waste of time lol but I had to finish it. Also reading monster books have never scared me but if I read a more tame murder mystery books, I always wake up and hear every noise and my brain is like is someone in the house??? lol the dogs would alert us but what if??
I'm only 40 min in, but I wanted to say I knew I liked you. I feel like we are very similar but you are cooler LOL. I have been a huge fan of Alice in Chains since forever (my parents are big fans). Thank you for answering my question and thank you for putting out RUclips vids. I'm a stay at home mom and enjoying listening while I'm doing my daily routine.
I'm positive you are much cooler haha. I think Dirt is one of the best albums to have ever existed. Thank you for taking the time to leave a question and thank you for watching!
H.G. Wells was one of the founding fathers of the sci-fi/horror genre (perhaps THE founding father!) who doesn't seem to get sufficient notice on booktube. "The Time Machine", "War Of The Worlds", "The Invisible Man", "The Island Of Doctor Moreau", "When The Sleeper Awakes", "The First Men In The Moon" are all classics from the late 19th and early 20th century. I have a personal interest in "The War Of The Worlds" as I used to live in the small English village where the opening scenes of the book are set. Would love to know your thoughts sometime.
I did a movie vs book on The Invisible Man, but I think it was combined with other books, so it might be difficult to find on my channel. And I did talk about The Island of Doctor Moreau somewhere but, again, I'm not sure where. I'm sure I will read more in the future!
Hi I just got in to your channel this year and I love your videos. It’s kool seeing someone else in to horror, what are your thoughts on horror manga? There is some crazy stuff out there like authors like Juni Ito, Kentaro Maura and Kazuo Umezz. I like to read them as palette cleanser in between novels.
I know hou don't like Fantasy, but my recommendation for a cozy book would be Tress Of The Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson. It's about a girl who must save her lost love from a wizard witch lady, and she must travel across oceans that kill you when you touch them. It does have some fantastical elements, but it is much more toned down than other fantasy books I've read. You like books about the ocean, right? So I think you (might) like this one
THE BAILY SCHOOL KIDS!!! … How has hollywood not jumped on the Bailey School Kids Franchise yet !?? 🤩 Those book covers, titles and ART hold a place in my brain and heart forever. 🥲✨
I legit thought my old boss was the only one who read the last page of the book 😂. My mind is blown right now. Her reason if you were curious … was that … she just didn’t want to get to the end of a long book and be upset with the ending, or if she was getting anxious about how the end might turn out, that would be another reason.” haha. wild. I could never.
Ok Now I KNOW how you popped on my feed. Ok the phones really are listening. Cause I’m for SURE my phone has heard me say to someone that Leprechaun is my DAY ONE horror trauma film 😅 I legit use to think I was gonna see him pop up in the mirror behind me when I woke up to have to use the restroom at night 😂 For legit. Till I was like 12. maybe 13. lol …maybe older 😅 I’m healed now though for sure haha.
Cozy mysteries, Agatha Christie, I think is the Queen of the whodunnit genre. Have you ever read James Herbert? I’m currently reading The Ghosts of Sleath, I’m really enjoying it.
There is a CRAZY weird movie I’ve only ever found on RUclips that I recommend, It’s called Meet the Hollowheads and it is genuinely the weirdest movies I’ve seen in my life, maybe not in a good way lol It was directed by a really famous special effects artist and it makes absolutely no sense and you won’t be able to stop thinking about it, I watched it once three years ago and I think of it at least weekly!
Never DNFd a book?! Possibly the two most DNFd novels of all time were both written by James Joyce, "Ulysses" and "Finnegans Wake". I managed to get through the former (just) but "Finnegans Wake" defeated me! Go on Anda...we double dare you!
Haha! I actually purchased Ulysses because I want to make a video reading the most difficult books. I haven't summoned the courage yet but I will one day!
@@AndaKent "Ulysses" starts as a deceptively easy read. Evelyn Waugh - author of "Brideshead Revisited " - then maintained that it "descends into gibberish"! For my money "Fiinegans Wake" is even more challenging!
In Watermelon Sugar is kind of surreal but its more a horror/alien feeling reading it, the world and relaity is so alien that there isn't really anything else like it, it's quite mournful actually
I just finished reading Hannibal, and yeah, that ending made me so mad. Especially as someone who’s been dating an actual psychologist for 6 years. Like I can suspend my disbelief fairly far for the sake of a good story, but that last section had me sitting there like “That’s not how it works! That’s not how brains work! Aaaa!”
yeah i think they stored all the film in like some weird salt cave if I remember correctly and it got all fucked up. Such a shame, because you know that uncut material would've been unhinged😅@therealthing1982
Ken Kesey - who wrote "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" - once said..."in a thousand years time when the rest of us have been long forgotten, people will still be reading Richard Brautigan."
I’m a dog person too but love my cat, funny I saw this random comment on a different platform and thought it hilarious. “The earth can't be flat because if that were true, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.” hahah!
If you haven’t checked out Nightbreed (Clive Barker’s film adaptation of Cabal) then you definitely should because it’s an awesome movie. Dr Decker is one of the coolest villains ever and he is played to perfection by the horror master David Cronenberg. The mask that he wears is absolutely terrifying and so bad ass. If you have watched it then I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
I had no idea how they would portray that character in the movie and the mask he wears is absolutely amazing. I did a movie vs book on this one way back on my channel. If you search Cabal or Nightbreed, it should come up!
Ice nine kill is a metal band that theme there music's from horror movies like there is a song on freddy another one pennywise and it and more good movies.
You may not have liked The Troop by Nick Cutter because it also used newspaper clippings like Carrie by Stephen King. Cutter was inspired by that, so it makes sense that you wouldn’t vibe with it! Maybe it was something totally different though.
"Everyone now knows how to find the meaning of life within himself. But mankind wasn't always so lucky, " Who could resist the opening lines of Kurt Vonnegut's "The Sirens Of Titan"?!
You’re fantastic! Thanks for making videos. My partner loves Alice Cooper and Stephen King. I love Clive Barker. We have been making our way through The Dark Tower series. He reads them aloud to me while I’m driving. 💙Are you interested in The Dark Tower?
This. Is. Adorable! I've actually never given them a chance. I usually avoid fantasy like the plague. I do own the first one though so maybe I'll give it a chance one day.
Not sure if this counts as a horror, but I read Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy recently and The Judge is one villian that hasn't left my mind since reading it. Such a terrifying character!
I have lived long enough to know when I missed out on something cool and I consider missing out on asking you a question as one of those moments. I saw your post and everything and I didn't move fast enough. What I would like to ask you now, after watching the entirety of your video; do you have a P.O. Box? I asked you (on IG) about Alan Moore's graphic novels - The Courtyard and Providence. And when you said you had not encountered them I thought it would be nice to share with you the works that rank as one of the most disturbing tomes I have read in recent memory. As I mentioned before, tone is so integral to achieving a true sense of disturbing dread. Throw gross and grim at me all day, but if it is tonally off, it won't hit. Those particular books by Moore have it in spades.
Hey homie if you’re looking for a mildly disturbing but early well written twisty fun horror read I’d check out the creepy pasta short stories called Borrasca. They made a podcast show on it as well that was very very very well done in my opinion :)
I didn't like the troop either AND the girl who loved tom gordon was my first *adult* horror book that started my life long obsession. My step-dad got it for me when I was ten
The Annelise Michel case happened in our neighbouring city and i used to drive past their house quite often... always gave me the creeps. A few years ago the house burned down 😭 i'm sure it was just some idiotic teenagers but still creepy asf
QUESTION IF YOU HAVE THE INTROSPECTIVE ABANDON TO CONSIDER AND ANSWER IT. IF YOU WERE FORCED TO SPENT THE NIGHT IN A CAGE THE SIZE OF A BEDROOM IN THE COMPANY OF ANY HORROR BOOK MONSTER, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE.
if you like EL TOPO, I HIGHLY recommend the three recent graphic novels by Jodorowsky THE SONS OF EL TOPO! THE GIRL NEXT DOOR...wow...as a man, I am STILL disturbed/angered/frustrated by it...but I canNOT even imagine what it must have been like to read it as a woman...so hard to get through...no fun and find it impossible to recommend to anyone Richard Brautigan TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA is well worth your time...read a lot of Brautigan in the 80's I agree with your take on THE TROOP...I was expecting more...it was "okay", but not as good as the hype suggested I know you like Clive Barker...I met him while working on an animated project that was being developed called THE THIEF OF ALWAYS...(late 80's/early 90's)...I did some storyboard and some character animation...unfortunately it was never made as an aside, when he first came to the studio, I invited him to join us for beer and wings at Toronto's oldest pub, but he politely declined and as he left he smiled and gave me a secret wink!...I mentioned it to one of my best pals (and roommate) who happened to be be gay and he said, "oh yeah, he's gay"...it wasn't common knowledge (outside of the gay community) at that time (again, late 80's)...I was very flattered! cozy mystery recos....Richard Osman's THURSDAY MURDER CLUB series?...SOOOOO gooooood the horror movie I saw when I was much too young was HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE...I remember running out of the room...it was later that I finally watched the whole film JOHNNY CASH's auto bio is great...I LOVE auto bios (especially musicians) love the channel...have checked out many of your recos...DARK MATTER...great...looking forward to more Crouch...TENDER IS THEW FLESH is one of the most recent...loved it!...thanks for the vids!

Like I can suspend my disbelief fairly far for the sake of a good story, but that last section had me sitting there like “That’s not how it works! That’s not how brains work! Aaaa!”
1hr+ Anda vid? Hell yeah
Event Horizon was the one film I remember accidently watching as a kid, and it fucking terrified me
yeah i think they stored all the film in like some weird salt cave if I remember correctly and it got all fucked up.
Deanna Chase for a cozy witchy mystery recommendation!
I’m a dog person too but love my cat, funny I saw this random comment on a different platform and thought it hilarious. “The earth can't be flat because if that were true, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.” hahah!
So true! They're evil but we love them haha.
Love the movie PI. So so good. Darren has wrote some disturbing movies. A book that scared me that isn't scary is Johnny Got his Gun. It gutted me
I've had this one on my list for so long but I keep avoiding buying it because I know it will destroy me. I'll read it one day!
This is very true! I also read it after one of the best books I read all year so I think it was also bad timing.
"Everyone now knows how to find the meaning of life within himself. But mankind wasn't always so lucky, " Who could resist the opening lines of Kurt Vonnegut's "The Sirens Of Titan"?!
Have you seen the movie bug?? That movie was crazy for my 10-11 year old self to have watched
Great film.
Thank you for answering my question ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 49:31
Thank you for leaving a question!
I didn’t like the troop either! I also read seed as well and I agree that it wasn’t that great. I think it’s because I don’t find children creepy. lol
Not sure if this counts as a horror, but I read Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy recently and The Judge is one villian that hasn't left my mind since reading it. Such a terrifying character!
I bought this one recently but haven't read it yet. I'll have to read it soon!
I just realized I wasn't subscribed!! fixed that real fast, lol. Are you on Goodreads?
I'm glad to have you here! No, I'm not. I use the website all the time, but I rank all my books in a reading journal.
The cover on the current print of American psycho is the absolute worst. I ordered B old version from eBay. Lol
I read Baby in a Blender because of you 👀
Maggie's Grave by David Sodergren is a great witchy extreme horror book
There is a new book by Jon Athan called Blender Babies. Brian Lumley writes good cosmic horror.
American Psycho is a masterpiece.
I didn't like the troop either AND the girl who loved tom gordon was my first *adult* horror book that started my life long obsession. My step-dad got it for me when I was ten
On the dogs versus cats conundrum...dogs have masters, mistresses or owners; cats don't...cats have staff!
So true.
@@AndaKent As every cat owner knows...nobody owns a cat!
Can you recommead a book for a newbie by Kristopher Triana thank you so much. love your videos
The Annelise Michel case happened in our neighbouring city and i used to drive past their house quite often... always gave me the creeps. A few years ago the house burned down 😭 i'm sure it was just some idiotic teenagers but still creepy asf
The poster guy is Fred Williams.
Read “My Vice Is Your Unfathomable Agony” by Otis Bateman! It’s a wild ride!
I love love love your sweatshirt 😊💛🟨
QUESTION IF YOU HAVE THE INTROSPECTIVE ABANDON TO CONSIDER AND ANSWER IT. IF YOU WERE FORCED TO SPENT THE NIGHT IN A CAGE THE SIZE OF A BEDROOM IN THE COMPANY OF ANY HORROR BOOK MONSTER, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE.
Caught in a horror book...which would you rather lose...a hand or a foot ?
Did you ever wet the bed from a nightmare from a movie you watched?
How old were you when you thought your mum was possessed 😅
Oh absolutely too old to have thought that. An older teen for sure. haha
I want to know you intimately.
if you like EL TOPO, I HIGHLY recommend the three recent graphic novels by Jodorowsky THE SONS OF EL TOPO!
THE GIRL NEXT DOOR...wow...as a man, I am STILL disturbed/angered/frustrated by it...but I canNOT even imagine what it must have been like to read it as a woman...so hard to get through...no fun and find it impossible to recommend to anyone
Richard Brautigan TROUT FISHING IN AMERICA is well worth your time...read a lot of Brautigan in the 80's
I agree with your take on THE TROOP...I was expecting more...it was "okay", but not as good as the hype suggested
I know you like Clive Barker...I met him while working on an animated project that was being developed called THE THIEF OF ALWAYS...(late 80's/early 90's)...I did some storyboard and some character animation...unfortunately it was never made
as an aside, when he first came to the studio, I invited him to join us for beer and wings at Toronto's oldest pub, but he politely declined and as he left he smiled and gave me a secret wink!...I mentioned it to one of my best pals (and roommate) who happened to be be gay and he said, "oh yeah, he's gay"...it wasn't common knowledge (outside of the gay community) at that time (again, late 80's)...I was very flattered!
cozy mystery recos....Richard Osman's THURSDAY MURDER CLUB series?...SOOOOO gooooood
the horror movie I saw when I was much too young was HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE...I remember running out of the room...it was later that I finally watched the whole film
JOHNNY CASH's auto bio is great...I LOVE auto bios (especially musicians)
love the channel...have checked out many of your recos...DARK MATTER...great...looking forward to more Crouch...TENDER IS THEW FLESH is one of the most recent...loved it!...thanks for the vids!
Witchy book: Slewfoot
Board games: abomination, horrified and pandemic are required Halloween plays!
You should read cows by Mathew stokoe. Unbelievably disturbing.
I also was appalled of people who read the ending first. I didn’t realize people did that until I met my husband 🫢
This is ABSOLUTELY a thing my husband would do too if he read books haha.
