I see no difference in the packaging accept for the statue being gone, and- get this- THEY ARE 50$ EACH 50$ FOR 15 ML FOR 0.5 OZ THAT IS A DOLLOR FOR EVERY O.3 ML OF LIQUID Mel, I love you, but jesus. 50 dollars? For reference, Ariana Grande's thank u next perfume was 45$ for 1 ounce. That is 5$ less for DOUBLE THE PARFUME. also, in regards to the comparison with the ariana grande perfume (I don't listen to either of them, used to listen to Melanie but can't support her with nfts cuz bruh really) it was in stores, whereas the amount she prices it at does not include shipping, which is expensive as well.
you can find 1 oz ariana perfumes for less than $30 at some places, and even sets with body lotion and other gifts for less! i really like the glass packaging that they come in especially. i find her products to be on the more affordable side of celebrity perfumes.

I would be shocked if Melanie's perfumes were actually worth the price. I just don't like "perfumes are cheap to make" as a blanket statement. It's true that many perfumes are relatively cheap to make and that a lot of what we pay for is the brand and marketing but this is not true across the board. This kind of blanket statement hurts independent perfumers.

It was cute and simple too! Like it represented the album and was good quality according to the reviewers. Portals is just Melanie’s head in a gold cauldron which feels a little bit too much! Despite the negative reviewers when they received the statue and it looked cheap and wonky. Let’s hope she’ll release separate bottles that will look cute!😭

Just gonna say this as a MASSIVE crybaby, as much as I love the idea I just can’t trust it. I have the original perfume from the first tour and I still have some perfume. The formula just isn’t strong so it doesn’t last long. I double checked recently with my roommate and he said he couldn’t tell I had perfume on unless his nose was against me. So at those prices it’s just simply not worth it even if I felt I NEEDED that art piece. Edit: problem isn’t that it is subtle but that it dissipates very quickly compared to most perfumes in my experiences. Almost non existent, might just be my batch though. That said at 40$ I am not mad, I would be at those prices though

I became a Melanie fan shortly after The Voice and I stayed all up until K-12. I eventually left (a bit after After School) because my music taste changed but the way she and her team treat her fans nowadays makes me happy that I did. So disrespectful. That's a much better and prob more tasteful alternative if she really wants to make that head part of the collection! the lid could have been the part of the head with the upper set of eyes then they could have just made the quality better. the glossiness of the hair and the printing of the eyes made it look cheaper 😓

Tho I do agree the quality control and management is very concerning, the four perfumes are currently being sold separately at 50 dollars, imo, Portals has been a mixed batch. I agree the pricing is its biggest downfall, i understand that quality control isn’t Melanie’s fault exactly but I imagine she had a hand in designing it of course and I agree the bottle and figure itself may be worth the Collector price if it was more metallic than plastic but even then the bottles themselves need a work around cause even then $500 for a figure to me still isn’t worth it if the perfum was so small. I haven’t seen any bad reviews for the scents, so wether you prefer these scents more than the crybaby perfum scent aside, something as simple as just little FULL bottles alone may have swayed people opinion because even if the bottle is a little ugly at least the perfume itself is nice and you got a good amount for the price. I believe the reason for the price being so high is just how big the bottle holder is and how much detail is on it, printing that bottle thousands of times with so much detail is most definitely the reason it cost so much. Yes it’s made of plastic, yes it’s cheap material. It’s a bottle holder. You are paying for the name associated with the perfume mostly. But again that model is definitely not cheap to make. I could be wrong but I believe this is how she’d be paying for her future projects as well. That is a stretch ofc I’m not her financial advisor.
If each perfume we’re sold individually out of casing it would be $400 in USD it’s because 1 ounce of perfume would be $50 in USD so make 2 ounces and get that by four it would be $400 for each perfume to be sold in their own product without casing
2:22 EXCUSE ME MATE Magic Mixies are actually very nice quality :) 3:56 ah so they're not premade inset eyes? I have zero familiarity with Melanie Martinez, I'm a toy collector haha. I've NEVER seen inset eyes where the actual pupil itself is wonky; the eye itself is occasionally wonky (but this is something you can fix as they're, well, inset) but not the actual pupil...! If they're paint then I'm assuming spray mask or tampo printing as given the finish as it's too smooth to be UV resin. Both of these methods are known for causing wonk if the printing pieces or spray masks are misaligned in the factory.
I was thinking that cuz I like dolls like monster high and ooak etc etc but they don't look like inset eyes, they look like painted on top of a plastic base like monster high dolls, you can see it a bit better at 1:36 ....which honestly, considering the price,,,, insane lol

These perfumes are more likely than not a cash grab. Some people say the prices are not really up to Melanie, which I’m not totally sure of. Regardless, I feel like fans have a right to criticize Melanie/label for these prices because even compared to high end perfumes this is overpriced - and fans should be able to support Mel without breaking the bank. Is the design and amount my favorite? No- I was expecting something else like a butterfly or mushroom packaging (to fit the fairy core theme). As of recent I heard that people really like the smell of the scents so ig that’s alright. Either way I understand why she released the perfumes anyways. Melanie puts a lot of time and thought into her craft and that costs a lot of money and she needs to make a profit for her personal expenses - she had to give her label a cut of her earnings, she has to pay for whatever materials needed to make music / videos/ costumes, then there is inflation so everything is already more expensive, etc. Most of all she wants to make a portals film which is going to take a lot of money. I’m guessing she saw everyone wanted the return of the crybaby perfume and she decided to capitalize off of that with making the portals perfume (since she can’t exactly bring back the crybaby perfume because the manufacturer doesn’t exist anymore). I don’t think this whole perfume/merch ordeal makes Mel a bad person because she is trying to fund her art which most fans are looking forward to. However, for the future her and her team needs to be reasonable about the pricing and take more consideration about the fans.

These new releases are Parfums, not perfumes, so they have a greater percentage of concentrate and are therefore stronger

Tho I do agree the quality control and management is very concerning, the four perfumes are currently being sold separately at 50 dollars, imo, Portals has been a mixed batch. I love the look and the songs but, considering how one, the green screen photo thing was confused with meet and greet, the fact Melanie was making NFTs, the allegations that the fans muddied up, the quality of merch, it’s just a hot mess. I agree the pricing is its biggest downfall, i understand that quality control isn’t Melanie’s fault exactly but I imagine she had a hand in designing it of course and I agree the bottle and figure itself may be worth the Collector price if it was more metallic than plastic but even then the bottles themselves need a work around cause even then $500 for a figure to me still isn’t worth it if the perfum was so small. I haven’t seen any bad reviews for the scents, so wether you prefer these scents more than the crybaby perfum scent aside, something as simple as just little FULL bottles alone may have swayed people opinion because even if the bottle is a little ugly at least the perfume itself is nice and you got a good amount for the price. But at the same time the bottle being ugly is only an issue cause you’re essentially paying the big price for the bottle itself

Tbh comparing the perfume bottle to the magic mixies (cauldron toy) is an insult to the TOY.😭 I have one and the experience was actually amazing and the toy that comes out isn’t a plushie, it’s a very detailed and high quality doll that I love so much! The perfume bottle looks CHEAP AS HEEEELLLL compared to the COULDRON THAT COST LIKE $30 - 40😭
I believe the reason for the price being so high is just how big the bottle holder is and how much detail is on it, printing that bottle thousands of times with so much detail is most definitely the reason it cost so much. Yes it’s made of plastic, yes it’s cheap material. It’s a bottle holder. You are paying for the name associated with the perfume mostly. But again that model is definitely not cheap to make. I could be wrong but I believe this is how she’d be paying for her future projects as well. That is a stretch ofc I’m not her financial advisor.

I've NEVER seen inset eyes where the actual pupil itself is wonky; the eye itself is occasionally wonky (but this is something you can fix as they're, well, inset) but not the actual pupil...!
If they're paint then I'm assuming spray mask or tampo printing as given the finish as it's too smooth to be UV resin. Both of these methods are known for causing wonk if the printing pieces or spray masks are misaligned in the factory.
I was thinking that cuz I like dolls like monster high and ooak etc etc but they don't look like inset eyes, they look like painted on top of a plastic base like monster high dolls, you can see it a bit better at 1:36

The packaging itself is so tacky too. Even if the perfumes were incredible i wouldnt buy it because i dont want the mel head staring at me. Some 30ml glass bottles with different insect toppers would have looked incredible and fit so well. The whole thing is just ugly (i love Mel's makeup and prosthetics but the perfume container having it just doesnt work for me).

These perfumes are more likely than not a cash grab. Some people say the prices are not really up to Melanie, which I’m not totally sure of. Regardless, I feel like fans have a right to criticize Melanie/label for these prices because even compared to high end perfumes this is overpriced - and fans should be able to support Mel without breaking the bank. Is the design and amount my favorite? No- I was expecting something else like a butterfly or mushroom packaging (to fit the fairy core theme). As of recent I heard that people really like the smell of the scents so ig that’s alright. Either way I understand why she released the perfumes anyways. Melanie puts a lot of time and thought into her craft and that costs a lot of money and she needs to make a profit for her personal expenses - she had to give her label a cut of her earnings, she has to pay for whatever materials needed to make music / videos/ costumes, then there is inflation so everything is already more expensive, etc. Most of all she wants to make a portals film which is going to take a lot of money. I’m guessing she saw everyone wanted the return of the crybaby perfume and she decided to capitalize off of that with making the portals perfume (since she can’t exactly bring back the crybaby perfume because the manufacturer doesn’t exist anymore). I don’t think this whole perfume/merch ordeal makes Mel a bad person because she is trying to fund her art which most fans are looking forward to. However, for the future her and her team needs to be reasonable about the pricing and take more consideration about the fans.
