  • On the early morning of October 22nd, 2023, Amtrak P42DC #100, painted in "Midnight Blue", leads Extra 100 west down the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line with a detoured "New York section" of Lake Shore Limited train 48(20). The train was unable to reach New York Penn Station due to a washout in Scarborough which halted all service on the Hudson Line. Instead, the train was sent to Boston South Station in Massachusetts with the "Boston section". Passengers were then transferred to the last westbound Regional of the night and the "NY section" consist was sent down as a non-revenue move to Sunnyside Yard in Queen, New York.
In the video, the train is seen passing by Bridgeport station, Stamford station and CP 229 (Green Tower, Greenwich) in Connecticut and Mamaroneck station in New York.

wow, awesome catch!! too bad they had the passengers change to the regional with worse seats and no sleeper or checked baggage. I wonder if they could've sent it SPG-NHV-NYP

I'm guessing that the Boston section stayed in Boston.

@@connecticutmultimodaltrans8226I’m just speculating but it’s possible the engineer was too close to timing out among other logistical issues (like getting a locomotive and a driver) to allow a split at Springfield
