    Very Helpful, I really appreciate it. .Ive also seen in an old farm fence book that you can cement an extra pull post to attach the come-a-long on. . but this was by far the most helpful video ive seen, thanks and happy trails !

    Some good tips, thanks. A couple of points to consider... end posts need to be plumb, yours are not, so the fencing comes across them at an angle which contributes to the sagging top of the fencing. And the end posts DEFINITELY need to be properly braced. Unbraced end posts are doomed to failure.

    I've done similar using old black iron water pipe woven through the fence wire vertically. Even with t posts in between you should always tryin brace those corner posts or your fence is gonna end up loosening in one direction or another. H braces dont cost much to build,just time consuming, but a good fence is a long term investment. It's also best to not only staple,but strip and tie the horizontal wires around the end posts. It helps keep even pressure vertically.

    Two quick suggestions. When your installing your fence staples, install them diagonally across the welds instead of straight up and down. It gives you a better connection. Also, I like to install a 2" x 4" the same height as the fencing, positioned over the wire nailed directly into the fence post. That will provide further protection for your fencing and cinch things down a little more.

      I'm here because I need a new goat fence. I highly recommend using woven wire instead of welded wire (like what he's using) or you might be watching the video again when you replace the fence. The goats rub on the fence which breaks the welds at every connection point.

    I wish I’d seen your video years ago. When we had 2 horses my husband bought the metal posts and placed them about 6ft apart so it was easy to keep the fence tight and attach it without a fence puller. I’m sure he made a lot of mistakes but thankfully it worked and the horses never got out. I wish I’d saved those posts because now I’d like to get goats but my husband says the posts are outrageous. I may show him your video and these comments to see if we can come up with a more cost effective post. I’m also planning on getting chickens but I’ve got my coop and large fenced in runner that has an enclosed top picked out so I just have to buy them. I’ve thought about pigs but I’m not sure how much room they need, the best fencing to use, and if they are going to stink I may not get them. We only have a little over 5 acres. I’m also planting my first garden this year. Because we have so many birds including barn owls and hawks along with a ton of wild rabbits, opossums, raccoons, squirrels, ground hogs, and coyote I’m wanting to get a large green house where you can roll the sides up thru the day. Not only would that help keep other critters from eating up my crops but also keep any pollutants from the air from getting to them. We are also surrounded by large soybean fields. I have no idea what pesticides and fertilizers they’ve used on them. One field buts up to my backyard. I don’t want any overspray getting on my plants.

    Always stay your strainer posts first, then strain up guide wire btwn, them, put in your line posts, shift guide wire to the top, tie off one end of fence, roll out netting, set up strainers,, stand netting up, to the top wire, bend wire off cuts, to S bend , shape to hold netting up, strain up, check fence, strain , tie off, thats how we do most netting fences, done miles of it.

    Another tensioning method would be to drive a stake in at an angle and then drive another stake 2' behind it and tie the top of the first stake to the bottom of the second stake. With this method you can use as many stakes as needed depending on the tension required.
    Using the winch at the first stake, you drape the tensioning rope over a board or post that is half the height of the fence and tension the fence. If the board becomes angled, tap it back upright or slightly toward the target fence.

    • @Lindz1745
      @Lindz1745 2 года назад

      The important point is that the fence stretcher he has is made for Chain link fencing which has flex. Wire mesh does not so the tensioner or even steel rebar is needed in addition to not break the welds.

    you cant get enough tension with that little strip when you are pulling especially when you are pulling a piece of fence that long. I'm curious if you are using t post in between that stretch, why you didnt run a plumb line and insert those before you attached that fence to the end post? If you make a clamp out of 2 x 4's and add a couple eye hooks you can really put a lot of tension on that fence. also I have great success running fence by myself by temporality attaching fence using zip ties. (be sure to shop prices on these, 100 ties at harbor freight is only $1.99 while at the big lumber stores are $7 and $10!!! Its only PLASTIC! WHY?) then when you are finished, you just nip them of with anything sharp no pulling staples out which is a pain. I didnt even have a come along, just a ratchet strap attached to my vehicle and later my riding mower, but attached to that home made fence puller, I got super tight I hope this helps someone.

    It looks like a great start to your fence. That hieght should keep the chickens in.
    I suggest considering brace on the posts so they dont get pulled inwards, especially once you get the other sides connected

      I know it as a "Come Along". Here is an example: amzn.to/NR4QOd - They come in different ton ratings, so get the size you need! You do not need a huge one for fence pulling, but might be helpful on the farm in other areas, like lifting a mower, etc.

  • @cooldbz12mach1padilla
    @cooldbz12mach1padilla 5 лет назад +1

    You need to make a H brace in the corners if not your corner post will lean like @ 6:02 and not look nice, also your fence will loosen up more as the post lean more over time. Also add barb wire along the bottom first to keep predators from bushing up on the fence, and you also need to put the Tpost first before the fence and the barb wire will guide you since it is at the bottom straight between posts.

    Here is a little money saver for you. $$$$
    We used to cut down Black Locust, Cedar and some Cherry trees for fence posts with the black Locust trees being the best the world over. Each of these species are found in your area I believe. You need a chain saw and a splitting mau or wedge to split 8 foot trees into thirds. There is no need to take off the bark. Just trim the limbs off and split them to the size of your calf or fore arm.
    NOW; this is hard work and I did 100s of these with my brother. We eventually smarted up and used a hydraulic splitter on the tractor that we built.
    A word of warning: Black Locust trees have thorns as long as 6 inches so be careful and burn the branches.
    ALSO: Split Locust posts will become hard as a ROCK in about 30 days after they are split or cut down. So do not tarry get them cut split and put in the ground.
    These posts make excellent cut 4x4 square posts for live stock pens. THEY NEVER ROT AND TERMITES DO NOT EAT THEM!!
    Good luck! God bless.............. jim

      I think that they are big pods like bean pods but we had so many they were a nuscance as well as Cherry trees the latters leaves kill cows. You of course could use cedar trees. We used little ones that did not need to be split and they lasted for 30 years.

    • @BJ-on4wj
      @BJ-on4wj Год назад

      All you have to do is attach a brace on both sides of the post so it will keep it from pulling the post down it's a easy fix nothing to be worried over just make sure you anchor them deep enough or a easier way is to pour some anchor points with brackets then add whatever you want to have connected to the post and anchor
      I just was thinking if you were to add a post in the center of the to post that would help take some of the tension off the corner post
