Completed AFF a few days ago (my 10th jump) and just got recommended this video. I really enjoyed it man. Especially at the end, you talking about the community aspects and dapping people up in the plane. Im almost 22 and this sport has changed my life. Thanks for sharing your story! Come jump in Colorado sometime!
@@olamide3992 I Just got my A license about a week ago. It costed me about $4100. Plus $900 for my helmet and altimeter which are "optional". The early student levels are more expensive which I had to repeat some which led to it being slightly more expensive. This includes some time in a wind tunnel - 20 minutes was about $370 (optional). I would say your A license (25 Jumps) costs about $3000 - $4500 depending on how fast you excel in the skill of freefalling.
My first jump, tandem of course, this last weekend for my birthday. I thought I was going to have a full on panic attack the drive to the air field but once we were in the plane, learning banana, and my instructor just reminding me to look at how beautiful it was; the actual jump was nirvana and the most fun I think I might have ever had in 5 minutes. Definitely going a second time, tandem again just to really be able to soak it all in. First jump is just overwhelming as hell but very rewarding. Good on ya man!
I have recently completed my second tandem jump from 14k and I feel like I want to try the AFF course, here in the UK. So glad I watched your video. So encouraging.
Nice vid PJ! Takes me back to when I started jumping back in 1978. Blue skies to you and have a great time. Remember that skydiving isn't just a sport, it's like a wonderful drug addiction!
I highly enjoyed watching this from start to finish. You did a phenomenal job talking about your process from starting out and the hurdles you had along the way to getting your license. I'm planning on doing the same this year and just wanted to let you know this video got me even more hyped!
Whats up, so I did not go low enough for my AAD had to deploy (Gratefully), I just went way below what. normal student should me doing but lessons were learned haha. Feel free to DM me on Instagram if you need: @peter.junior_
Peter I thoroughly enjoyed your journey to accomplishing your dream. My parents had to sign a waiver for me to make my first jump when I was 16 way back in the early seventies! Dating myself😁 Fast forward I’ve not jumped in many years. I will be retiring in a year from a very busy travel related industry. That skydiving bug has been calling my name for the last two years. I can’t even go on my RUclips home page without skydiving video’s popping up. That’s how I found your channel. Once I retire I will be able to take back the joy of living the rest of my life to fullest. That includes getting back in the sky under a canopy as well as getting back current as a fixed wing private pilot. Thank for sharing your experiences and your words of encouragement👍🏽👊🏽🪂
Awesome friggin video man! Im on my A license journey, and just cant friggin wait to get forehead stamp! Thanks for sharing your journey with us, and blue skies!
I appreciate you sharing that scared feeling from a bad pull etc. I had that at jump 17 (hard opening) then 18 where I pulled unstable and almost had the bridal wrapped around my leg. I’ve jumped since , and completed a solo and a dive and dock… but the fear definitely got to me. I went to the DZ one day and didn’t jump.. I’m jump 21 now and hopefully can complete within the next month :) passed my test yesterday , but didn’t jump due to wind conditions. Safety over all!!
Been watching a lot of these AFF videos. Making the call tomorrow to reserve MY AFF course for next week. Scared but excited. I'm 49band have put this off for way too long.
Awesome video! I just finished AFF3 last weekend! The fun doubles and the fear has subsided only slightly each time but good to hear that the butterflies never go away! Such an intense and emotion experience but worth ever minute of lost sleep for sure!
Aren’t 2 instructors jumping with you on the first level? I only saw one in the recording :/ Congrats on passing the course! I wanna get it done this year (started it in 2021 but had to stop after the first level because life as well 😊)
It took me a full year to get this done because life is definitely a factor haha. As for your question, some drop zones do 2 instructors but I didn’t learn that until I finished 😂. Typically it’s based on the amount of instructors that a drop zone has. If they have few then they can only do 1 at a time so that they can get more students through the program
Hey great video man, did my first tandem last weekend, and signed right up for the whole A license package at a DZ down here in Florida. One question, did the instructors/coaches video each jump and review that with you?
Heck yeah, hope you're journey is going well. They did video every single jump and went over most of them. There were some days where the drop zone was really busy and they needed to get back on a plane but always made sure to at least tell me their thoughts after landing even if we did not have the time to review the video in detail.
Did my first tadem jump and signed up for aff school the second my feet landed just finished my second tadem and am ready for my first solo jump thank you for the video was very helpful to me
Great vid man, glad you got it done, how many jumps are you up to? I saw in a comment that you moved to Chicago. I’ll be down at SDC this year, but you should come visit us at Skydive Milwaukee. We are the only club in the area that jumps year round. You can stay current and jump all winter.
small correction there: tracking(for the beginners) is so you can seperate from each other before deploying the parachute...theres actually a word for people who track towards someone else...its called a meat-missleXD
I had my first tandem jump 3 days ago, just in time before my 26th birthday yesterday, as I planned it to be.... and uhm,, I still don't know what words to choose to express how i felt. It was the best experience of my life, but I was also very nervous and anxious and afraid that I would back out at the last minute, and just a whole lot of mental massacre, which after the jump I realised it was completely unnecessary. Even now, when I think about the precise moment of maximum fear before jumping and the first 5 seconds after leaving the plane, I can't help it but laugh at myself. It was like my soul left my body for a split second and came back xD Even wanted to jump a second time that day. But maybe next year, I will go again, tandem of course, to at least, fully internalize the experience xD For anyone that is reading comments and thinking about trying it out, PLEASE GO. You will have a whole other perspective of the sport and how to feel when you see you can push past your own limits. What a day ...
Whoa! Great video and very inspiring. I was supposed to start my AFF course in 2 days, but my instructor told me that I might be too weak for the canopy steering and landing, so I am trying to train Does anyone have any tips for good exercises so that I can be ready when I show up for the trial in a week?
2 weeks ago I did a tandem. I loved it so now I'm thinking about a class A. However, when I watch a video like this I'm still terrified thinking about jumping out of a plane again lol.
Haha I completely feel you on that. I just had to dive in to the full program in order to get myself to go through with it. It gets a lot easier tho after the first couple of jumps when you realize that it is a relatively safe sport
really thinking about starting my AFF however I think im most terrified of piloting the canopy lol. I just have no clue how to do it, how much or how little to pull, not make it stall, etc. And to have to do that completely alone is terrifying. what did they teach you before your first jump to pilot the canopy?
@@chrismealler I actually just took my canopy course and practiced stalling. It’s actually kind of fun 😂 You learn a good amount about flying your canopy but if you are particularly trying to improve on that then taking a canopy course would forsure help
@@Peter.Junior_ oh I’m sure I would once I actually get into it more. I just mean that first jump you do for the AFF course. Like the falling with instructors holding on to you isn’t scary, it’s more maneuvering the canopy down to the ground safely on your own.
@@chrismealler they’ll go over landing patterns pretty thoroughly before your first jump. That’s one of those things tho that you just have to learn while doing. Going right and left is all you need to really do at the beginning. Conditions and maneuver also vary by locations. The student canopies are also bigger and slower
@@Peter.Junior_ to be fair, there's that red pully that allows to deploy the pilot chute from any side. Yeah, my course was 8-9 jumps. The requirements were the same for A.

@@Peter.Junior_ can I ask what you think of the instructors / facility and stuff? I’m a complete newb, done a tandem looking to do an AFF somewhere, and RSD is 20 minutes from my house. 😎
@@Paramoto959 Sure thing, RSD had some nice instructors although I did not get to jump with them personally since I no longer was required to. The facility was pretty up to par with Paraclete as well but I did like the Paraclete Drop Zone a bit better. Paraclete has a lot more Military Personnel since it is close to Fort Bragg so all of those instructors and coaches had more of that demeanor which I really looked up to. Either way I don't think you can go wrong. I have gone to various drop zones now and have felt that the community as a whole is inviting and patient when it comes to new skydivers

Forsure. Take it one jump at a time, have fun with it (take a break if you need to) and one thing I do is have a little routine before heading to the drop zone.
