There aren't words for how much I love this! I'm fortunate enough to be one of the drummers mentioned in the roll of names at the end of the video. Thanks, Tony!!
I'm shocked and stunned. Why do people rag on drummers so much? Without us, all you buddy-boys, your time would be even worse than it already is. Praise be to the drummers of Earth, and to the great Tony Levin.
INSANE list of drummers ! We dig it enough for you to add all the drummers left off the list - re open the recording and keep going! Was waiting for Danny's part. :)
the bouncing dot turning into your head was a nice touch 👌🏼 a totally amusing and awesome homage to a veritable percussive soundscape of drummers in recent history. thanks
I was at the KC ‘Three Of A Perfect Pair’ show at the Greek Theater that’s featured in the sound check images of Bruford here with the Simmons kit looking out at the empty seats pre-show
Homage, a capella, a wonderful exercise in harmonization and composition, a brain scratcher, and a complex crossword puzzle of names, rhymes and meters. Plus I get to count how many names I recognize of the people that Tony got to meet and play with... it's crazy and creative and unexpected (to me) and I love it! You gave Jacob Collier a run for his money (or could he join your list?) 😊
I hope doing an interview via Zoom mr Levin!!!! On the drums its remind me for "The King Crimson Barbery Shop", its so funny this track and its a tribute to the best drummers
But... How about the joy when they pull "RED" out instead‽ Anyone -scratch that-. EVERYONE would make that trade of a nod back to the '70's with zero hesitation. Don't ya think? ¿Barbershop Red?
Tony, This is absolutely amazing ! You have so much class and style on top of your legendary catalog and exceptional level of skill on your Instruments . This should shut the door on all top ten lists of drummers. I do have a many favorites. But I also am aware that there are hundreds of great drummers I have yet to know. In the late 70’s I first heard your playing with Gabriel. I remember thinking how amazing I you were . A short time later I see you again, with a new King Crimson. You did a piece with what looked like bass pedals from a pipe organ. Absolutely amazing. Tony, you are really one of a kind. Thank you for putting so much wonderful music into this world ! If you ever see this….. please know I have a small tune on my small channel . The tune is just 3 minutes. If you gave me a listen and made a little comment, that would be the highlight of my music life. It’s the short… “On Red Gardenien Street” ! Love all you do Tony. !!!
Marvelous. Guess I need to dig into your sessions more... when did you play with Brian Blade as well as Jack De Johnette? Would love to hear those ones
Such a great tribute to the master drummers of our time! The inclusion of Neil Peart and Stewart Copeland would have been nice, though! Thank You, Tony!!!
"So" Stewart Copeland Was included at 3:21. Also, you may have missed the point of the video. Ŕead the 5 seconds at the very beginning... and listen again.
Tony, I caught the Beat Show down in Clearwater on the 28th of September. Great show, the stick sounded really amazing. You guys were all fantastic. Vai especially did great, quite a contrast from Fripp's stoicism. Have you guys thought about doing a new album with this lineup? It would sell like hot cakes.
I don't think Tony ever played with the late Neil Peart - Neil didn't do a lot of gigging with people outside of Rush. Damn, though - if it had ever worked out, that would have been incredible!
I had the great fortune of crossing paths with Neil when he was riding his motorcycle through the Westen US. It was at a gas station with a cafe attached in the middle of nowhere. At first he was keen to not admit who he was. I told him I had seen Rush four times with 2112 being the last time. And reminded him of the band doing a record store appearance in Portland OR. where they were asked to press their hands in concrete. The store was downtown called "Bananas" but it didn't last very long. So there may be a building down by the waterfront that has Rush handprints in the floor. We were in the desert and the sun is about to go down. He had a late start and was still 60 mi from where he had planned to stay that night. He said he had camping gear, and I told him my house was about a mile and a half away. Also in the middle of nowhere. Told him I had a patch of green grass and he was more than welcome to shower and have bathroom to use. He said "I don't think so, but thank you. I gave him directions and I left. Half an hour later as the sun is going down I heard a motorcycle outside my house where just me and my brother lived. To be continued... If anyone is interested.
@@doogie-mk2lq Well, you have my full attention! Very interested in hearing where this goes. I'm just assuming you've read his collection of motorcycle diaries...
Yeah, I noticed it too. Don't know exactly if the words for this song actually are a list of drummers Levin has played with. If such was the case, I couldn't recall if Levin and Simon Phillips have ever played or recorded together.
haha.. Thanks for getting stuck on Gadd. I got a couple you missed: Carter McClean, Reuben Spyker, and Yoni Madar. Just my opinion.. but all 3 have have nice hands
So, one of the greatest bassists out there releases an a capella song about drummers? Awesome.
About drummers he (Tony) has made music with.
Even more Awesome... don't ya think?
Steve Gadd interlude is beautiful, closely followed by the percussive Bill Bruford section…. all of it. Brings JOY!

I don't know what i was expecting, but it wasn't this! This was amazing!!!
I was worried when Steve Gadd wasn't showing but when he did... Wow.
Well that was the best 5 mins of my week. Beautiful....
Amen brother
Oh no...
I have the "Bill Bruford, Bill Bruford, Bill Bruford, Bill Bruford" refrain in my head!
So have I 😂😂😂
YES! 😉

Best song about drummers I’ve ever heard.
Bruford, Cobham, Collins, Gadd, Harrison, Minnemann. Thanks, Tony, you always build up great rythmic sections

An unforgettable labor of love
Even by Tony Levin's preposterously high levels of genius, that is genius.
So happy this is back! I was distraught when I couldn’t find the first version anymore.
I love this more and more every time I listen!
Excellent tribute to the greats. Bruford Bill Bruford.
Such a beautiful counterpoint! Congratulations, Tony Levin!
Magnifique !! bon, en gros vous avez joué avec (presque) tout le monde ! et du beau monde ma foi...
The seven part Bozzio was hysterical!
Was waiting on Manu, glad to see Ritchie Hayward and Wil Calhoun in there.
This is nuts and I love it,!
I love the new album, Tony! You are quite the singer! So much style! :)
the bouncing dot turning into your head was a nice touch 👌🏼 a totally amusing and awesome homage to a veritable percussive soundscape of drummers in recent history. thanks
I love this! Reminiscent of "Van Lingle Mungo" by the great Dave Frishberg, whose lyrics were all classic baseball players.

just melting away...such a beautiful gesture (and what a good memory he has)
That was insane!!
Absofreakinglutely superb in every way! Thanks Tony for being different than "the other children", but in the best way possible of course!😅
Stellar as a rhythmic autobiography, an homage to the four limbed musicians and just a great composition and video edit.
Well done.
Excellent ! ❤from UK
FANTASTIC
Imagine my disappointment when you didn't sing this or the KC barbershop on the Beat tour.
But... How about the joy when they pull "RED" out instead‽

Beautiful! Reminds me a little of "Their names escape me" by Spock's beard. I'd love to know if that track provided any inspiration. Tony?
My firsth thought as well!
Phil Collins is Peter Gabriel? 😮
"Monsieur Manu Katché" 👍
Brillaint song! Would love to see Danny Carrey reaction to that. And maybe include TINO CONTRERAS! And Dinho Leme from 'O A e o Z' (Mutantes, 73)
Tony knows.
No Neil Pert, no Carl Palmer, No Keith Moon, No Simon Phillips?😢
Pretty sure its all the drummers Tony played with
Read the First 5 seconds of the Video... 0:01 Then watch again. It will take on a whole new meaning.
Not what I expected, but it was great!
Hey Tony. You forgot Solomon Deniro 🙏♥️😂
ma... al minuto 1:14, quando canti "phil collins"... quello della foto non è bill bruford? :))))
