Volcanos Nat'l Park is a great place to go. There's a hotel called the Volcano House on the edga of the Kilauea crater. With binoculars you can watch the eruptions from your room at night. Very cool. If you stay there make sure you reserve a "Volcano side" room. Otherwise they'll give you a "mountain side" room and you won't be able to see the eruptions from your room.
That Friday night earth received a blast of Solar radiation from a CME (coronal mass ejection) this has been linked to the northern lights reaching as far down as New Mexico/Hawaii, as well as increased earthquakes and volcanoes.
