That's an interesting take on the song. It was originally released in 1969 under the title I'll Wait when the group was still called The Parliaments. They re-recorded it with a slower tempo (an early version of a remix) under the name Funkadelic and changed the name to I'll Stay instead. So yes, you are right, it does sound like he would wait forever until he dies. Thank you again. I love the fact that you review a lot of Funkadelic tracks on here. They are my favorite band of all time! 💟☮️🤘🌼🌹
love funkadelic . cosmic slop is well worth checking out sis . Many blessings to you and family.🙂
I really like Roy Hargrove’s (RH Factor) version of this song, with D’Angelo on vocals- well worth checking out!
Smokin on
...Haaaaay
If you ask me to define a 'slow burn' in music, I'd name this song.
For MEMORIAL DAY weekend can you do "MARCH TO THE WITCHES CASTLE " by Funkadelic. It was banned on the airwaves in 1974 by Congress as a ANTI VIETNAM WAR protest song. 30 years later The Dept. Of Defense bought the rights to the song added actual war footage to a video and it now plays here at the VIETNAM WAR MEMORIAL in WASHINGTON D.C. 24/7. The song and the video are very graffic. It is a BERNIE WORREL/ EDDIE HAZEL cover of "Battle Hymn of the Republic/ When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" FUNK CLASSIC. "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It ON" also in 1974 was a Black Revolution Anthem. But also led the BLM march on Washington in 2019.
I'm wearing my Parliament "Mothership" T-Shirt. Does that count for anything?
