  • Visit my web site www.Outdoor-Electric.com for stator winding information. I have had questions about which bolts to use for the flywheel removal; Take one of the bolts that held your rewind cup on with you to the hardware and match the threads up.

      Got a no spark situation. Starting with coil. Then moving to stator

    FYI for anyone doing this, do not buy a puller from harbour freight (USA) or princess auto (Canada) as they are cheap china metal and will bend the crap out of itself, buy a good brand puller!!!!. The threads for the recoil cup bolts are M8 if you need new ones or for flywheel puller purposes, and the flywheel nut size is 3/4. Blaine thank you for this tutorial. it has helped me alot! My stator was reading 50 ohms lower than it should at room temperature. It was pooched.

      The one he has if I'm not mistaken looks like the harbor freight one

      Just trying to help give people some info on how to do things themselves. :)

    I've read a few things that can help here and there....first of all make sure the puller is on straight. You can hit the end of your main puller bolt when it is tight on it "shocking" it a bit and sometimes the flywheel will come off. Don't start hitting it too hard because the magnets inside the flywheel can come loose. Some guys said they used a beefier puller and that helped.

    Sled won’t shut off condition: I have seen a few things cause this. It is usually a bad ground/broken ground wire. Sometimes it is moisture in the connector. I had to disconnect my TSS/Kill switch the day my kill switch got moisture in it and my sled wouldn’t shut off. You could have a cdi with an internal short. Also, a bad stator can cause a sled to not shut off.

    No problem...works towards a lot of 2 strokes ect...I state that at the very beginning.

  • @BlaineDP
    @BlaineDP  14 лет назад

    Read through some other comments: Get it tight, hit it with a hammer. Use an impact wrench. Sometimes you have to sacrifice the flywheel just to get it off.

    Any time an OEM stator reads higher than 450 and 45, they are bad. For low specs: Generally if they measure less than about 430 and 40 for an OEM stator they are bad. These readings are either when cold or at room temp. Ohms/resistance is based on length of wire so if it is supposed to measure 450 and it measures 479, then there is more resistance. You didn't add any wire to it so it must be more resistance due to the coil shorting out somewhere internally or externally and it is bad.

      When your having a hard time removing grab a small rubber mallet and tap it around the flywheel

      Did you manage to get it off? I´ve been struggling with mine for like a whole day with no luck. Only small m6 holes in the flywheel on the ZL 500 :(.

  • @BlaineDP
    @BlaineDP  11 лет назад

    Yep, some of them are on there very tight. Some guys can't get them off no matter what they do to them and just end up throwing heat at them, impact gun..ect...and ruin the flywheel just to get it off.

    Does every snowmobile have a starter? If you just have pull start do.you need to install a starter for electric start?

  • @BlaineDP
    @BlaineDP  11 лет назад

    Depends on how good/quick a person is with tools. From start to finish I can swap one out in 30-40 minutes because I have done it so many times testing. Most people will take 1 to 2 hours to do it. Nothing hard about it...it just takes a little time to do it.

    No problem. Of course some guys are running into stator bolts where the heads break off when trying to remove them, some guys have a flywheel that is much tighter on the shaft or a few guys have even found broken wires from a previous owner.

    I have not been able to nail down a specific cause for anything in the electrical system causing stator failure. I've seen a cdi lose its ground wire, replace it and the stator is ok. I've seen the ground on the stator break, replace it and the stator was ok. I've seen ECU's/CDI's go bad and the stator was ok. I'm not saying that nothing in the electrical system will make the stator go bad but it seems at least from my experience that only stator failures make the stator go bad.

    what can you do if the little screws that hold the stator to the stator plate breaks the heads off them and the stator is still held in place by the remainder of the screw. On my sled they are phillip head screws . any response would be helpful thanks.

    hello, I read online that my low speed should test at 360-540, and it read 262 (brown to green wire) Read that high speed should be about 36.8 to 55.2, My high speed tests right at 36.8. Is it time for a new stator due to the low speed only reading at 262? It's on a 1995 arctic cat 580 Efi. Thanks!

    I've literally checked everything on my sled ( 96 zrt) and still not getting spark . I've replaced the cdi box my stator tested out at 402 / 422 on a 5° day , I ran a new ground to the chassis , new plugs and still no spark . I literally have no clue what could be the problem

    Are there certain timing marks on the stator that i have to time the engine on my 1977 Arcti Cat Pantera ?

    • @BlaineDP
      @BlaineDP  3 года назад +1

      Some of the stators have timing lines on them that adjust the timing. Most of the time there are OEM witness marks where the fasteners were tightened down from the factory. Most people just refasten the stator to the factory position.
