Both the key fobs on my 2012 c-350 were giving me the replace key fob battery message even though they were both used less than 8 months with new batteries installed at last service.. and one was not even in the car. I checked both batteries with a DVM ( digital voltage meter and they were 2.988 volts and 2.887 volts ..I thought that was fine....BUT the little red light on the key fob was not lighting up . I installed a similar thinner battery ( thats all I had at the time, but it was reading 3.332 volts. ) Surprisingly it fixed it. The little red light comes on on the key fob, and the replace battery message went away. Now to go out and buy new Lithium 2025 batteries which are above 3 volts. ( will get the staff to test them at the store I guess. ) Thanks for the video it was very helpful
Excellent video again. Seeing the disassembled key first allowed for a far greater understanding for when you were showing how to disassemble it later. Thanks.
Thank you so much! My key, exactly the one in the video, looked sealed shut, and I thought they were going to get me on a pricey replacement. Got it open quickly while watching the video. Easy peasy. Thank you for taking the time to show this.
Very helpful.Key comes out easier if you leave the key on key ring and pull. The hard part is placing the key under the small tab to push up. Showing the key cover off FIRST helps to find the tab with a light, and that makes this video the best.
Thanks. Good concise video. Totally disagree with those who critiqued starting with the key apart--that short explanation made it oh so clear what had to be done to get the key apart. Using the mechanical key as the 'tool' to unlatch was also a good idea.
Thank you so much!! I was scared to mess up the insides so I used a flashlight. But this saves me so much money on paying the watch store guy to do it for me.
I had 4 minutes to spare, to save me much more time down the line. Thank you for this video, went to Walmart, bought myself a replacement for $8 (for 4 batteries) and replaced myself.
I loved the way you showed us the reason for the steps in advance. This video was great. I feel like this is an easy fix that I can do without the help of my husband or a mechanic. #knowledgeisempowering.
Thank you so much for your detailed instructions!! It really helped me and was very understandable. I actually didn't want to write a comment at all but the way people talk about you in the comments is really appalling. It's not like you bumbled on for 20 minutes... It's terrible how people react if just a single second of their time is "wasted"... Thank you again for your wonderful instructions and don't let those people get you down! ♥️
Woo Hoo! Did it. Thanks for the detailed instructions. It's really EASY if you know what the heck you're doing. :-) Saves me a 45 minute trip to the nearest Merc dealer.
Would like to thank everyone who thinks this video is too long. Just trying to share some knowledge, did this video in one take and couldn't get my dog to edit it, so it is what it is.
Dude, you have to look at the comments a little more clearly. The main gripe is that almost all of us really needed some concise instructions on how to properly open the FOB and replace the battery. Additional relevant knowledge would still be secondary, supplemental info. And, frankly, a lot of us felt that though your extra info may be valuable , we would regard it as common knowledge. Nobody is in the mood to hear babble about stuff we all know. This damn high-priced FOB is frustrating enough, just show me how to open it first and foremost... sheesh. I bet people have traded in their old C250 for less money than the cost of a new replacement FOB!
Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video - very much appreciated! I think it makes sense just the way you showed it, starting with the cover off. It is unfortunate that some find it necessary to bitch and complain about a FREE and informative self-help video.
Great video. For those who complain about the length: If you don't have four minutes to save yourself a trip to the dealership, it's time to rethink your schedule.
Just to add a trick I found when attempting to follow the OP's instructions on the key for my 2013 SL63....the tip of the 'OLD'-style metal key is tapered down to very thin, almost-flat. Instead of twisting with the hook-end, simply insert the long end of the metal key straight into the right side of the hole (while the battery cover side is facing you) and the door pops open without 'prying' anything or needing a screwdriver. I hope this helps someone! Good luck!
This was perfect! Worked like a charm, literally took me all of 60 seconds to do. Yes, use a flashlight on your phone to look for the part to unsnap... I was aiming wrong at first. Great video!
Great video, but 2010 S550 key fob slides out from the top and has two(2) CR2025 round batteries. Thanks for sharing the video it helped me look more closely as to where I needed to look at to actually change the batteries.
Well the battery could be also a CR2032 3V lithio. I have just replaced the battery for a CLK 250 with a CR2025 3V that was not working properly and now goes perfect with a new CR2032 3V The battery CR2032 is just a little bit larger and thicker BUT is better and It WORKS !!!
I have a question I have a 2000 Mercedes-Benz e320 and my smart key will not open car door nor lock them I was wondering can it still crank up the car if I put it in the transmission?
Thanks! My key fob battery was strong enough to work, but did not turn on the LED on the key fob. The battery voltage was 2.84 V in the old one instead of 3.3 V on the new one. Maybe the IR function will work now!
Yes it is too slow, but the reverse idea is actually good so you know where the latch is and what it looks like to open the back plastic cover. It's just too slow/long that's all
Thanks for the help! Great Video! I wish the thumbs down button DIDN'T work! Some of these people are soooo damn ungrateful! Nobody MADE you watch the video! Beat it!
That video was worthlless. Any moron can figure out how to put the battery in,, The hard part is opening the key. His advice is "the best way to get it out is to just play with it" Awesome advice!
For those complaining about the length of the video, keep a few things in your mind - you are the one that came here to find out how to. May be you are not that SMART. Also you can use the fast forward button ... DAHHHHH
I was wondering how to disable a key fob. Swap out the battery? Turn the Battery Around? I am trying to deter my son from taking the vehicle. Any ideas?
there are at least two different MB smart keys. In one the guts slide free of the button portion/case(two batt's inside), in this one the back cover simply pops off. I don't know why you start in the middle, with the emergency key removed and the back plate off?
Still helpful in 2018. Thanks.
You have left a legacy regarding key fob battery replacements!

Thankx for showing in reverse, it showed me exactly what to do before a stated poking around in my key. Thanks
I just wanted to thank you I just replace the battery Mercedes wanted$125 to fix my key fob thanks again
EXCELLENT, THANK YOU. SHOWING IT BACKWARDS CLIP INSIDE FIRST WAS THE TRICK.
Thanks for the public service! Saved me a trip to the dealer...45 miles away and the only show (MB) in town.
Thanks for the video - for those of you complaining - he took the time to post it so cut him some slack - it did the job!
Very helpful.Key comes out easier if you leave the key on key ring and pull. The hard part is placing the key under the small tab to push up. Showing the key cover off FIRST helps to find the tab with a light, and that makes this video the best.
Thanks so much! I would’ve never figured this out and so simple once you demonstrated!!!😄
Thanks , I had this type. At first I was trying to get the back side off. I was wrong I needed to get the cover off. Thanks again

Thank you so much for this video. It's a shame one can't just look at the Mercedes Benz manual and get the information they need.
I found this very useful. You just saved me a trip to the dealership. I feel a wee bit smarter now. Thank you for posting.
I had 4 minutes to spare, to save me much more time down the line. Thank you for this video, went to Walmart, bought myself a replacement for $8 (for 4 batteries) and replaced myself.

Glad you liked it! Way to get in touch with your inner mechanic!

Excellent video! Had no success after viewing 3 others. This one was the charm. Thanks for showing the target/latch.
Great instructions, sir! I appreciate people like you who take time to share simple hacks like this!
Woo Hoo! Did it. Thanks for the detailed instructions. It's really EASY if you know what the heck you're doing. :-) Saves me a 45 minute trip to the nearest Merc dealer.
Oh my goodness, this was very helpful. I replaced my battery in less than one minute with these instructions. Thanks so much!!!'
This technique also works with my 2013 E550 Cabriolet keyfob. Thanks! You saved me a trip to the dealer!
Thanks. Worked perfectly for me. Explaining backwards is different but helped perfectly. At least I knew what I was looking for. Great job
Thank you...My spare needed a battery, the dealer told me to try myself first...this was simplicity, at its most finest!
Thank you for posting :-)

Thank you, this was helpful. I would add that if the battery doesn’t drop out as it’s recessed, a gentle “tap” releases it. Again, thank you.
Thank you! I was finally able to open it after watching this video.
Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video - very much appreciated! I think it makes sense just the way you showed it, starting with the cover off. It is unfortunate that some find it necessary to bitch and complain about a FREE and informative self-help video.
Very Good Instructions...got my battery replaced..ty
Thank you! This was very helpful. No complaints, just gratitude...
Great video. For those who complain about the length: If you don't have four minutes to save yourself a trip to the dealership, it's time to rethink your schedule.
going to the dealership would take longer than 4 mins. you have no point. just shut up
@@2faf3dafafd I completely understand your statement. When I hit play I was like did I miss the beginning lol
Thank you very much. This saved me a trip to the dealership.
Yes, thanks for the video! Just did mine so easy and quick. I almost went to the dealer this morning. This was very helpful!
Great video - thanks - and my MCB service rep said it was difficult and I should leave it with her. Ridiculous. Thanks again.
super helpful , thank you. people are so unappreciative.
Thanks for taking the time to shoot the video. Clutch with a dead key :]
Thanks very helpful. I knew there was a battery but had no idea how to get it out or where it was located. Thanks a bunch :-)

works great. I did it 20 second after watching the video. Thanks!!!
Thank you for this! I appreciate your logical explanation and I was happily able to pop out the battery
Thanks for the informative video. It's amazing what key fobs cost and the trouble involved in getting a new one.
Thank you for your simple, fast and useful guide. 🙏

Thanks for sharing. Saved me a trip to the dealership.

Thanks that helped it worked for my 2014 CLA 250 4Matic too!
Thanks! My key fob battery was strong enough to work, but did not turn on the LED on the key fob. The battery voltage was 2.84 V in the old one instead of 3.3 V on the new one. Maybe the IR function will work now!
Good info on the battery installation on the Mercedes Benz.
Thanks so much. Very well presented and I was able to follow your instructions perfectly.

Excellent video , and very well explained thank you

Great video - really easy once you showed me the way! Thanks!
